umm i hav a few friends doing dentistry and they say that it gets boring very soon and they feel like they're a plumber coz of the nature of the work.... they find it really depressing and stuff (for no particular reason)

our doctor family friends seem pretty happy.. especially the ones that own clinics coz they can work for short periods of time and get other docs to work the rest of the week.

working in hospital is hell, one of the principles of my college, his wife works in a hospital and he reckons its absolute hell coz of the overtime and the stress of it all...

personally i hate med, non the less i think its an important field and great stuff to do and many rewards if you practice it.

take care all the best
salams

ps: im expecting free service from this advise if u become a doc, lol joking

From what I've heard, dentistry isn't so bad. Even though it is a 5-year course like medicine, it is quicker to get a job since you do not need to specialise and train for as long after you graduate. The course structure (maybe depending on which University you go to) might also be more interesting than medicine, because I think dental students begin meeting patients and get involved in more practical aspects earlier on in the course.

It could depend on where you are studying I guess, because different institutions may have varying standards of education.

There was a thread about personal statements here:

Although it didn't get many replies... but Insha'Allaah, for all those who need help on this, anyone with info can offer advice there.

There was also an Islamic forum for all people involved in, and thinking of going into, healthcare, which somebody mentioned a while ago. It seems to have been revamped last time I checked:
