Two Jerudong prison inmates embraced Islam yesterday in a conversion ceremony which took place at Bilik Ibadat of Jerudong Prison.

They chose the muslim names of Awg Muhammad Hakim bin Abdullah Lee and Muhammad Mustaqim bin Abdullah.

Present at the ceremony were the prison director, Tuan Hj Ahmad bin Hj Dullah, as well as officers from the Islamic Dakwah Centre and the Department of Islamic Studies, other inmates and staff of the prison.

A religious talk was delivered by Ustaz Hj Mail bin Besar followed by a Dikir Marhaban performed by the prison inmates.

thats what I mean most reverts dont have parents named Abdullah.

So I was jus wondering how the brother could chose such names as:

Awg Muhammad Hakim bin Abdullah Lee
and
Muhammad Mustaqim bin Abdullah

'Abu', 'um', etc can be used as kunyah's (names indicating paternity/maternity) but they can also be used as nicknames, such as Abu Bakr. Abu Bakr r.a did not have a son called bakr but was given this nickname due to an incident (sorry my memory is failing me today). (But it couldve been that he had a virgin daughter.. :rollseyes )
Correct me if im wrong.

A possible answer? No?

"oh isa son of ......."

"On the Day of Resurrection, you will be called by your names and by your fathers' names, so give yourselves good names." (Hadith Abu Dawud)
