View Full Version : glo's Internet Fast

Manaal's 'offline - life without the internet' thread has really challenged me!

So much so that what started as a curious thought a couple of hours ago, is maturing into a master plan! :? ;D

Here it is:

The idea

I will avoid any unnecessary internet activity.

The reasons
  1. To prove to myself and all others that I am able to do it!
  2. To spend my newly available time on more worthy causes
  3. To spend more time seeking God

The rules
  1. I can use the internet for necessary work purposes, such as research and communication with colleagues
  2. I will keep in touch with friends and family via email as necessary (i.e. with those I cannot call)
  3. I will not use any internet forum for any reason!
  4. These rules will be active from tonight, as I log off, and will remain active for 40 days (how Biblical! ;D )
  5. If I break any of these rules, I will have to be honest about it! :rollseyes
Yep, I like that challenge! :)

How can you go when you have so much friends on the forum? They said "you are already missed". Or that is really not important for you?

My own feeling is Glo is in the prossess of sorting out her thoughts and is doing her best to be the best person she possibly can be. She is making a true sarifice in her fast. Fasting is always a good way to seek guidance and learn our own strengths and weaknesses. Fasting does not have to be understood as being the giving up of food. It can be the giving up of anything we enjoy.

If Glo did not love all the people here and everybody was not important to her. It would not be a fast. I think she has made a great testimoney about everybody here, by her considering this to be a fast.

Interesting thought... What would be even more interesting would be to totally stay away from internet altogether. I don't think that would be possible at least for me.

If anyone had challenged me to not use my cell phone for 2 months, I would have ridiculed them...but weird enough, I did stay away from my cell phone totally for well over 2 months *only* after I lost my cell phone. So I would suggest you to stick to books for your research and cut the power cord of your PC (or your telephone/cable modem) just to spice things up!

Well I only use cell phone. I don't have a regular phone at home. so that's what made it real hard. It all depends on how reliant you are on something. The more you rely on something, the more it gets harder to get away from it

She isn't back just yet. 40 days is just under 6 weeks (5 weeks and 5 days to be precise) so glo's fast will be over in just under 3 weeks from now!

LOL

It's funny to read what you all wrote once I was gone.
You really missed me??? Awww ... I feel really touched now.:statisfie

Well, my forty days are over!

I must say that it was quite an experience to give up the internet for a while.
Most surprising just how much time I suddenly had!

I have spend much time with other people, but also reading and knitting (some of my fave things!). I also spent a lot of time outdoors gardening, walking and running (I increased my running distance to over 45 minutes). I went swimming in a river twice and the North Sea once (It was cold!!!) :giggling:
I spent much time praying and contemplating. :statisfie
I also spend much time in sadness about the latest world events ...

But now I'm back, and looking forward to hearing from you all.
I will try to curb my internet time a little ... otherwise I may feel the need for another internet fast all too soon. :X

It's good to be back.
