The Israeli occupation army intensified the offensive it started last month against the Palestinians, moving back into the northern Gaza Strip, killing one civilian and three resistance fighters.

Israel claims that its operation is aimed at recovering the captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit and stopping Palestinian rocket attacks, but many analysts condemned the assault as “collective punishment” and described it as an Israeli plot aimed at toppling the Hamas-led Palestinian government and undermining the Palestinian authority.

Israeli army sent troops and tanks to Palestinian farmland near the northern Gaza town of Beit Hanoun early Sunday.

Palestinian and medical sources confirmed the death of three Palestinians, adding that eight others had been wounded in an Israeli air strike.

Israel’s non-stop attacks over the past three weeks in Gaza, from which it withdrew last year, ending 38 years of military occupation, claimed the lives of more than 80 Palestinians and inflicted sever damage on Gaza infrastructure.

A group of Palestinian resistance fighters exchanged fire with the advancing Israeli occupation troops, reports said.

• Israel kills civilians

Yesterday Israel launched new round of air raids targeting a house in Gaza City, killing one person and injuring at least eight others, including young children, Palestinian sources confirmed.

Israel claimed that the building was being used by Hamas group as an ammunition depot.

Israeli airstrikes also hit economy ministry of the Hamas-led Palestinian government, badly damaging it.

Also Saturday, Israeli air raids hit the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza, Palestinian officials said.

The Israeli occupation forces confirmed both attacks.

The ruling Hamas party, whose armed wing is part of three groups holding the Israeli soldier, Gilad Shalit has seen its government offices bombed in Israeli air strikes since the assault began.

Israel often fires into densely populated residential areas, claiming it's targeting Palestinian fighters trying to launch attacks on Israeli towns.
