What is the hardest language to learn? That will depend on what our native tongue is. Languages are broken down into numerous groups. Each group is made up of languages from the same origin. We find the languages within our group to be the easiest to learn. The further removed we get from our language group, the more difficult it becomes.
Difficulty of a language is going to be primarily in the eyes of the student.
To myself the most difficult languages I know of would be the old whistle language of the original inhabitants of the Canary language. It was not composed of what we call words, but was a series of whistling sounds. The most complex to me would be the language of Tierra-del-Fuego. Which is actually 3 distinct languages. One spoken only man to man, another only spoken woman to woman and a third when speaking man to woman. Very distinct different languages for all three.
I personaly find all the Latin based languages to be easiest for me. The most difficult language I ever tried to learn is Cherokee. Although my wife spoke it, I never got to know more than a few words and never did master the alphabet.

It is one of the Native American languages. My wife was Cherokee Indian, of the Eastern tribe. The language is from the Algonquin group of native languages.

Arabic, this is due to the multiple ways one can express there feelings/instructions using it. THis is why at the time of the Prophet(SAW) the arabs where the best Poets around and still are (I think).
Everyone should also add the easiest language in also :p
Easiest language is: ENGLISH!

Formal English is very difficult. But, very few people speak it. There are many specific forms of English for specific forms of writing. Legal English differs from Technical which differs from colloquial which is not like any of the many literary forms that don't look like formal English.

And that compounds the difficulty for non-English speakers.

example of inuktitut:
In English, and in most other European languages, a sentence is a string of beads. Each bead is a tiny little word, and the beads are strung together to make meaning.
I am happy to be here.
Je suis content d'être ici.
Yo estoy contento de estar aquí.
But in Inuktitut the words are like Lego™ blocks, intricate pieces locked together to produce a nugget of meaning.
quviasuktunga tamaaniinnama
(happy + I here + in + be + because I)

Salaam alaikum :D ,
I have learn to speak Chinese and my mother language is Finnish, so I wouldn't say Chinese is sooooo difficult. All the Chinsese character have couple of symbols. If you learn about 50 symbols, you can write many words.
I think Finnish is very difficult language for foreigners, here is a sample for you guys..
Hei! Tässä on pieni näyte suomen kielestä. Suomi ei ole kovin hankala kieli, mutta sanat ovat yllättävän pitkiä ja taipuvat. Se tekee kielestä hyvin hankalan. :blind:

You're learning french, I can help you if you need ...My mother tongue is french... So what you need is to be patient and also forget the grammar of your mother tongue...Don't try to compare with your mother tongue... This is different and it will help you to start from zero.

A-Salam, Lol, I think you're looking for an arguement there. Many people from different regions of Somalia, believe their accent is the original accent. Anywhoo, hardest language? I know English is really hard for some peole, all the grammer rules etc confuses them. I think the hardest language is probably Chinese.
