Only fluent in English.
Sorta understand Gujirati.. But don't speak or write or read it. ;D Well..I could attempt speaking it, but I have some self-respect and don't get a thrill out of making a fool out of myself. ;)

Salaam,
Well, I'm supposed to know about 3... But I'm fluent in only one... I speak English perfectly, but I only understand urdu, and arabic (well a little bit), so I voted 'one'... I don't have plans on learning urdu completely, just arabic, and then I want to learn french and icelandic (only because its the hardest language in the world, I think...). Honestly, you gotta hear how I talk to my mom, 1/3 urdu and the rest english...

And for the record, I speak English and Urdu. The latter badly. And I understand a bit of Punjabi, but can't really speak it. Think Han Solo and Chewbacca. Han couldn't

I voted four because I included everyone languge I was fluent in at one time in my live. For now I am fluent in Somali, Englis and Urdu.
My kisawahil is a little alright. I Spoke Arabic very well ages ago working on it now again butI understand though. I guess since I speak Urdu then I speak hindi too cuz I don't think there is a big difference between them two.
Sister Amira I didn't came across any online sites that you can learn Somali from but I will post it if I see. There are some dictionary type sites though.
The thread idea is great and Somali is not that hard at all. So you could learn it over here too.

It has simmilar vocabulary to Gujarati but is different enough to be classed as a different language, for example i can't talk in gujarati no matter how hard i try, I've been told it's very simmilar to sindhi and can be mutually understood. We also just call it kutchi which is like the same.

I speak Swedish and English fluently. I speak bad Spanish.
I can understand Norweigan and Danish, and if I try hard I can understand a little Icelandic too. Swedish, Norweigan, Danish and Icelandic was the same language 1000 years ago, so all four have the same origin (of which Icelandic is closest to that original language).
I'm learning Arabic, though not on a really professional level but from a brother. I can read (though bad) but not understand many words except Islamic phrases and some other words which I've learned mainly through the Quran.
If I make Hijra to some Islamic nation (if any such exist when the time comes) I of course want to learn the common language there.

My late grandmother, she's Orang Betawi. When she was a baby, her parents divorced and the father brought her to Penang. Then he married a Malay woman. My late grandmother was raised up as Penangite Malay. She doesn't speak Betawi at all. But she loves to cook dishes which have 'tempe'.

Major Indian Languages
Sir George Grierson's twelve-volume Linguistic Survey of India , published between 1903
and 1923, identified 179 languages and 544 dialects. The 1921 census listed 188 languages
and forty-nine dialects. The 1961 census listed 184 "mother tongues," including those with
fewer than 10,000 speakers. This census also gave a list of all the names of mother tongues
provided by the respondents themselves; the list totals 1,652 names. The 1981 census--the
last census to tabulate languages--reported 112 mother tongues with more than 10,000
speakers and almost 1 million people speaking other languages. The encyclopedic People of
India series, published by the government's Anthropological Survey of India in the 1980s
and early 1990s, identified seventy-five "major languages" within a total of 325 languages
used in Indian households. In the early 1990s, there were thirty-two languages with 1 million
or more speakers
Determining what should be called a language or a dialect is more a political than a linguistic
question. Sometimes the word language is applied to a standardized and prestigious form,
recognized as such over a large geographic area, whereas the word dialect is used for the
various forms of speech that lack prestige or that are restricted to certain regions or castes
but are still regarded as forms of the same language. Its found that there are over 1600
dialects in India.
Here is a list of those Indian languages spoken by more than a million people. English is
spoken as a second language by more than ten million Indians. The highlighted links lead to
documents on this server. These documents list resources available on the net on the
language. Some of these resources are common to all Indian languages; they are also listed
seperately.
