Kuwait City - Kuwait's Ministry of Interior will begin recruiting women for the first time to joint the police force at the start of the next 2006-07 academic year, the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported Thursday.

The interior will begin taking applications for cadets 'after the completion of technical, administrative and construction installations,' Assistant Interior Undersecretary for Planning and Development Affairs Major General Mohammad Al-Subaei told KUNA at a graduation ceremony for male cadets.

It is possible that female police cadets from Jordan and other Arab states could be invited to train along with the Kuwaiti women, he said.

Kuwaiti women won the right to vote and hold elected public office last May, and will participate in 2007 elections.

Kuwait women within Kuwait's Ministry of Defence work at administrative and secretarial positions.

Is this a good thing?

~~salaam~~

Men have roles,so do Women,Each one of them precious
Women RAISE warriors, and Leaders at home,

Women also take part in Jihad, when NECESSARY,are these women NEEDED? is the question,

if women perish in wars,a whole nation stands to follow them,Think.

Women SHOULD be trained to defend themselves, their deen, their families,

It doesn't bother me personally. I was wondering if they would have difficulty performing their jobs in hijab and such. I thought that it may not sound realistic.
