Masha'Allaah excellent post!
To add to the above...life is full of barriers, which is why we keep procrastinating (postponing our actions) and of course this is one of the main weapons of our enemy; none other than shaytaan. When we are still in school, people often think to themselves that they will make time for Islam when they finish their GCSE's. But when that time comes, they are too busy preparing for college and getting settled in etc. Then they tell themselves that they will start practising once they finished their first exams since they have come so quickly, but out of laziness and more procrastination from shaytaan, one year has gone by and nothing done. Then people feel they are too busy, so once they finish A-levels they think life will become calmer with Uni life or whatever...but when that time comes, Uni only brings more problems of a different kind.
The point is that we think that the further we go in life, the more time we will have. However, even when Insha'Allaah we do finish Uni, then we will start work. And if you start working like 9 - 5pm, 5 days a week, where is the time for Islam? Then we will think, "if only I had started when I was still at school...there was so much less stress then and I used to come home so early.." and it is true, we think that the further we go, the easier it will be when in fact the oppsosite is true: the more work you have to do, more exams, being even more busy, it only gets worse...so the key to success is START PRACTISING NOW while you still have the chance!
And as sister Zohra mentioned, as we get older we have less and less energy, so why not make use of our youth when we are all bursting with energy (Insha'Allaah) - and direct it towards doing good deeds rather than using it all up on exams and what not... we need to clear our minds of this false delusion; the 'barrier-procrastination' problem, which is how shaytaan is winning over the people, and he is being helped by the world around us: tv, computers, games, films, everything...everything is a distraction from the path of Allaah; a hindrence on that path so straight.
If we could just focus our minds on staying on that path, then we could so easily protect ourselves from shaytaan. So please brothers and sisters, don't wait until its too late...after your exams we need to pull off the covers that shaytaan has knotted so tightly over our faces, we need to make a difference to our lives NOW, after all, we may never live to be old in the first place, we could just die next week! So lets all strive to change for the better NOW, THIS year, lets not waste any more of our chances, any more of our precious time, life is too short even though it doesnt seem like it, for on the day of Judgement we will say to each other that it was only a matter of days we were here! WAKE UP TO THE TRUTH INSHA'ALLAAH and make a change to your life today!!!
Remember the hadeeth which has been stated so many times, it won't harm anyone to mention it again: Take heed of five before five; your wealth before your poverty, your health before your sickness, your free time before your preoccupation, your youth before your old age, and your life before your death. Jazakallah khair wa ahsanal jaza - truly intriguing article - may allah give us the ability to spend our youth on his deen. And no doubt we will be questioned in the akhira about how we spent our youth!
