KUALA LUMPUR: The hidden "eyes" that watch over the city's traffic and help the police to nab criminals will be a full-fledged crime monitoring system nationwide if the approach proves effective.

"We live in the electronic and multimedia age," said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

"This provides us with many avenues to take advantage of, as long as they are used for good reasons," he told reporters after launching the national Community Sports League 2006 at Padang Semarak, Angkasapuri here yesterday.

Comparing the electronic eyes to the 'mata-mata' (a metaphor for police in Malay), Abdullah said:

"Good. Good. We also want to try out this electronic eyes. Our 'mata-mata' are insufficient. Now, we have electronic eyes."

"If closed-circuit TVs prove effective and practical, what's wrong in using them throughout the country?"

As long as there are acceptable controls to monitor, those who are doing the monitoring. They can be a very cost effective tool to reduce crime and assist the police or they can become a cost effective means of controling the people. It all depends on how much you can trust your government and be assured it will remain unchanged.

CCTV in 'taman-taman' ('public parks' in Malay)? I hope those who control CCTVs wont sell the 'hot movies' to porno VCD sellers. Independent Day is coming..... lots of condoms will be used in Merdeka Square and Esplanade (PEnang) and lots of girls unvirginised.... as usual...

Malaysia needs Sharia or some strict public law...badly!

I suggest the following:

  • Curfiews for anyone under the age of 21!
  • Loud music to be a violation of personal space!
  • No Obscene styles (gothic clothing, numerous tattoos or piercings, revealing clothing, etc.)
  • Ban on Pornography and Alcohol!
  • Mullah-controlled Television and Radio!
  • Limited and Restrictive Tourism policies.

We already have sharia court and strict public laws

I suggest the following:[/B]

* Curfiews for anyone under the age of 21!
Yet, the government want to extend operation hours for nightlubs, KAraoke centres, pubs until 5.00 AM

* Loud music to be a violation of personal space!
We are used to loud music, especially when Deepavali (Hindus festival) comes

* No Obscene styles (gothic clothing, numerous tattoos or piercings, revealing clothing, etc.)
There are rules about it, but no enforcement

* Ban on Pornography and Alcohol!
Porno are illegal, but you can by pirated porno VCD for USD 2.00, Alcohol - so easy to access.

* Mullah-controlled Television and Radio!
Malaysian Muslims are ENTERTAINMENT ORIENTED, they've spent hundred of millions to make sure their contestants win in like .... 100 reality shows....

* Limited and Restrictive Tourism policies.
Something that would NEVER happen
