This question goes out to the following groups; Americans, Australians, Canadians, and Englishfolk. Those are the only countries that constantly challenge gun policies; must be the Anglo-Saxon gun affair. :D

Anyhow, are you for gun control or against all control?

Remember, guns save lives too!

I own quite a few firearms, and I don't like the idea of a government taking away the right to possess weapons. Most of my firearms are for hunting, and I only have one pistol, a 9.mm. Reminds me of another quote from the movie "Lonesome Dove", when on the topic of guns, Tommy Lee Jones says "It is better to have one and not need it then it is to need one and not have it." Wisdom there.

It is quite easy to join...if you have the cash. No, they can't carry guns around..at least not in states without a conceal and carry law.

Alright, back on topic. On the philosophical point, I believe that a well-armed civilian population tend to make it much more difficult for any enemy force, whether it be foreign or domestic. Not to mention that it is a right promised to us in the Constitution.

Nope, not all of us do. I no longer even own a gun. But, that is because now I live in Austin and have no need for one. In my prior residence, it was a necessary tool. It was not uncommon to step outside the door and bee face to face with a rabid coyote or to find a bob cat killing my chickens or to have any of a number of wild animals in very inappropriate places.

In my entire life, I can not recall a time I did not carry a firearm, until my recent move to Austin. During my entire life I never had to use a firearm against another human, except during my time in the military and I didn't own it, it was government issued.

If all people had the sense to behave as rational human beings, there would be no need for any fire arms control. I'm still not sold on the idea of gun control, I believe fire arms instruction coupled with sound morality teachings would be the better choice, if that is possible.

On a personal note, a fire arm is good as a pre planned weapon, but it is often useless as a self defence tool without proper training and discipline.

Large cities aside, as Woodrow mentioned, these states have many issues with wild animals, those people being farmers, ranchers, and the average citizen who simply lives in the middle of nowhere. I know it is hard for some people who have lived in large cities their entire lives to understand where the gun culture in the South and the plains states comes from. Having been both a Texan and an Okie, the so-called "gun culture" is just the way I was raised. For the most part, people here in this area have respect and understanding of proper firearm use, so the stereotype of the drunken hillbilly with a shotgun spraying the countryside with buckshot is funny but unrealistic.

Yeah. But if my family sets the "good" example, and say an intruder hits the house a week later, what then? Most of my neighbors are hostile people, with one as the exception, but he moved last October, so I can't ask my neighbors for protection. Best I keep my gun and not be an example...for a crime.

Cheney shot his friend in the face with bird shot, which while painful I'm sure, isn't life threatening. Can't really call it hunting either, since the ranch they were "hunting" at keeps the birds in cages and releases them before the "hunt."

There are also social psych studies that show that trigger can in essence pull the finger... I too dislike guns. I think if people really have to fight that badly, fist fight or something...maybe it will help fight obesity.

i am no martial artist, but I think I am a pretty good fighter... I also carry a pistol or two every where I go... I wouldnt want anyone to tell me how I can and cant protect myself. If I were in a convenience store and it was being robbed I could shoot the robber, I wouldnt want to karate kick him... If I were being car jacked with a knife our gun, I would relish the chance to use my .45 or .357, not cowardly more like physical life insurance... insuring my safety
