Not quite completly true. Not all cultures have or had a 12 month annual calender. Many cultures had 13 months of 28 days, Which equals 364 days. Very close to our Gregorian calender of 12 months for 365 days, except 366 days on leap year. The calender used for astronomy and astro-physics has no days or motnths, it is the number of seconds from an agreed upon arbitrary point.

I believe the 12 month calender was from the Abrahamic religions and that the names of the months were revealed to us by God(swt). However, the current names of the months used in the Western world calenders come from Roman/Norse gods, Roman emporers and Latin Numbers.
