Yemen yeah mon!
LOol oh those guys fill the streets.... and in ramadhan you don't wanna be around when they're sellin 'em, its like a lil stampede...
sister salaam qat isn't halaal, cos it messes up the head, and the ulamaa/scholars said that "kullu ma khaamaral 3aql haraam" everything that overcomes the brain (drugs you) is haraam, and qaat does that, makes people high and stuff, you just gotta look at their eyes...
Nawal unless that fish is poisnous we can eat that fish, everything in the ba7r/sea is halaal right "u7illa lkaum saydul ba7ri wa ta3aamuhi mata3an lakum"
the game (prey) of the sea has been made halaal for you, and its food is provision for you..." an3aam
alhamdulillah...sea food is lovely!

The funniest thing we have in the USA is our Texas Shrub GWB, but I won't post him. No sence in ruining a thread.
I found this Pic. It's not in the US, Looks like Australia. Although it would be appropriate for parts of Sout Texas. Not really weird until you think about it.

High 5 gets low marks for hygiene
-by RAHMAN DAROS -
A BAKERY was raided yesterday for being dirty, employing illegal workers and using cooking oil without a ‘halal’ certification.
The raid at Stanson Bakery Sdn Bhd, which produces the High Five bread, at the Nilai Industrial Area, revealed that the floor was dirty.
Some workers were also found working without gloves or aprons, while the factory was badly-lit and poorly-ventilated.
The factory’s management volunteered to close down for two weeks after it was chided by the Health Ministry team which also issued a warning to the operator for operating under unhygienic conditions under Section 11 of the Food Act 1983.
Apart from that, seven foreign workers were detained as they could not produce employment documents while samples of the oil used in the bread mould were also taken.
The oil, carrying the brand ‘Dubur’, is from Israel.
The 2.30pm blitz was carried out by more than 30 personnel from the Malaysian Muslim Consumers Association (PPIM), Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry, Health Ministry, Islamic Development Department, Negri Sembilan Immigration Department, State Religious Affairs Department, Nilai Municipal Council and the police.
Silver Bird Group Bhd group managing director Datuk Jackson Tan Han Kook said the hygiene problem raised by the raiding team was subjective.
“It’s a minor issue. There were broken tiles at the factory and the management had not fixed it as it was an old factory. This is normal,” he told The Malay Mail last night.
Silver Bird is the parent company of Stanson Bakery.

Heres a particualr thing of interest from my country - Trinidad
I dont really think its wierd but rather wonderous.- just another example of the magnificene of ALlah.
Its called The La Brea Pitch Lake - Pitch is used to make Asphalt.
1. No matter how much u dig out of the lake....the next day its always replenished its self.
2. U can walk on the lake buh a haevy car may sink it and be lost for years and eventually spat back out by the lake some time in the future
3.ther are soft parts where u cant walk ...and well u dont want to sink down in there.
4. there are very hott parts of the lake also, especially where the lake is soft.
This first pic shows water pudles along cracks on the top of the lake.
This second pic show the guy peeling off a layer of "pitch" of the top of the lake
the last pic shows the guy using a stick to pull gooey soft pitch out from the lake.
To see more and maybe better pictures with better exlpainations check this link.

As a transplanted Yankee, I will say that in the Southern US "Grits" is served with every meal. It is a known fact Yankees hate grits. I suspect they do that so us Yankees will move back north.
In the US a Yankee is anybody who was born North of the Mason-Dixon line. The line that seperated the north and southern states during the civil war. North=Billy Yank...South=Johnny Reb.
However Texas is neither, we are Texans and we refer to everybody else as wannabe Texans. We only know of 2 kinds of Americans Texans and the people that want to be Texans

THat is more likely from India. Hindu's do that. They have a whole temple where they have a pond with milk with rat holes in troughout the strucutre of the building where the rat come through to enjoy the milk. The hindus come and drink the same milk.
I watched it on TV.

16/02: Thwart ‘sex maniacs’ with chastity belts--religious adviser
Category: General Posted by: Raja Petra
Agence France-Presse
A respected Malaysian Muslim religious advisor has suggested that women wear chastity belts to thwart "sex maniacs" who rape and commit incest, according to a report Friday.
Abu Hassan Din Al-Hafiz said cases of rape and incest were rampant and that chastity belts would help reduce sex-related crimes, the Star daily reported.
"We have even come across a number of unusual sex cases, where even senior citizens and children were not spared. The best way to avert sex perpetrators is to wear protection," he was quoted as saying in the newspaper.
"My intention is not to offend women but to safeguard them from sex maniacs," he said.
Elaborating on his idea, he said there would be other positives to donning the belts.
"Husbands could also feel more secure, if you know what I mean," he said, adding chastity belts were worn as recently as the mid-1960s.
Abu Hassan has served as a religious advisor to Malaysia's king and written books on Islamic studies.
AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL MALAYSIA PRESS STATEMENT
Chastity belts – another form of violence
Amnesty International Malaysia is appalled by the statement by Datuk Abu Hasan Din Al-Hafiz, a religious leader, that chastity belts would protect victims of rape and incest.
The underlying cause of rape and other forms of violence against women lies in discrimination which denies women’s equality with men. Violence against women is about power and control.
This suggestion is nothing else but another form of violence to control women’s behaviour and to restrict and maintain the subordination of women. It is unacceptable and violates a women’s dignity and her physical and mental integrity.
The use of chastity belts also amounts to torture, inhuman and degrading treatment that violates a women’s sexual and reproductive rights and is detrimental to a women’s personal health and hygiene.
We call on all the government and community groups to denounce statements like this that reinforces discriminatory attitudes and perpetuate violence against women and girls and take the necessary action.
Josef Roy Benedict
Executive Director
Amnesty International Malaysia

I think the idea here is sarcasm. Since Malaysia refuse to put Shariah first and implement hudud to punish sex offenders, combined with the fact that rapists who know how to navigate the law can procure release, what else can the lay person do to protect herself from such predators?
Non-Muslims in Malaysia (including Muslims proclaiming to be "liberalists") are very quick to jump on conclusions and scream "human rights"). However, I agree that the religious scholar should have added, "What else can we do for a society that rejects every Islamic doctrine designed to protect them from harm?"

Briton wins suit against Government
By CHELSEA L.Y.NG
KUALA LUMPUR: Briton Ronald Beadle, whose passport was impounded for 16 years for alleged tax evasion, won RM3mil in damages for all the suffering he endured.
Judicial Commissioner Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat ordered the Inland Revenue Board, its former assistant director-general and the Government to pay the 69-year-old RM2mil in general damages and RM1mil in exemplary damages.
“I am satisfied that the defendants had carried out their powers arbitrarily without any regard for the plaintiff’s interest,” Tengku Maimun said in her 25-page judgment.
She added that she did not think that Beadle had been falsely imprisoned due to the confiscation of the passport but was convinced that the defendants had unlawfully and improperly issued a directive for its seizure in 1981 to prevent the plaintiff from leaving this country until the sum of RM22,778.70 was paid

Thousands of people from all walks of life are flocking to a Malaysian village in Kampung Paya to see a "ghost tree" which has reportedly sprouted a human face which "changes everyday."
The New Strait Times reported that a five-meter tall betal nut tree in the village in Kampung Paya clearly has traits resembling human eyes, teeth and nose.
Villagers, who dubbed the tree a "ghost tree," claim the face changes each day and they are selling photographs to visitors.
Fifty-four-year-old Zainol Nayan was the first to notice the markings on the tree about ago but he said he did not pay much attention to it. He said the curves started to resemble a human face only about last week.
He told the Strait Times, "Since then, villagers have gathered around the tree to see for themselves and the news spread like wildfire, attracting outsiders."
Another villager, Noraziah Zakaria adds "I was curious and shocked to find that the curves indeed look like a human face."

All sorts of things, for example that the tree is spooked and some ghost has merged with the tree. But people who live there have actually learned to make profit out of it by taking pictures of it and selling them to curious visitors.

Reference to the post above. Is this the fruit you are talking about?
Durian Trivia–14 Fascinating Facts about the world's smelliest fruit
About the Durian
* The durian is commonly known as the "king of the fruits." The name comes from the Malay word duri, meaning "thorn."
* Durians cannot be plucked from the tree. You have to wait for durians to drop. The fruit usually drops at night.
How to Select, Eat & Store Durians
* When choosing a durian, examine the quality of the stem or stalk which loses moisture as it ages. A big, solid stem is a sign of freshness.
* Visible holes in the outside of the durian can indicate the presence of larvae inside. Durians may be attacked by insect pests which lay eggs in the fruit. These develop into worm-like larvae, which burrow into the flesh of the fruit. When selecting a fruit, make sure there are no holes on the outside husk.
* Durians freeze well, either in the rind or just the pulp sections removed from the shell. You can keep durians that have been frozen for months.
* According to Cheah Kim Wai, who has been selling durian for 7 years in Malaysia, durian should be eaten by their grades to maximize enjoyment of the fruit. “You must start by eating the lower grades first, which are much sweeter. The higher the grade, the more bitter the durians are. If you follow this technique you can truly enjoy the taste of the fruit and appreciate the difference between the grades,” says Cheah. Cheah said that if eaten in reverse, the bitter taste of the higher grade durians will overpower the taste of the lower grade ones.

I know it will take much will power, but I shall over come the temptation.
I will avoid the possibility of becoming addicted by refusing to take a taste of it.

I dont know whether you can get "Durian ice-cream" in Romania...
but outside Asia Pacific you can get it in:
New York
*Chinatown Ice Cream Factory
*Chaa Chaa (a Thai bakery)
* Dynasty Supermarket
San Francisco
* Polly Ann's Ice Cream
Maybe you can import it:
1) Dynamic Ice Cream Manufacturer Sdn. Bhd. (Malaysia)
2) Wall's Ice Cream (Unilever - Malaysia)

I must have too much free time. I just found this site:
Foods to Try before you Die...
Link:
http://chef2chef.net/features/cynthi...le/2005-09.htm
Yes Durain is on the list.
We do have advantage in reading that list. A lot of the foods on it are haram, so we can resist the temptation in trying them.
I love this quote from the site:
He began working his magic in the kitchen, and soon the entire house had wonderful fragrances going through it. Once he had the biryani going, he went upstairs to the computer and checked out Durian fruit on the Internet.
He came downstairs with a puzzled look and said he had found out tons of stuff, but not how to open the fruit! If you've never seen one, well…it's very large, oval, and has a hard husk covered with sharp thorns. The Durian is infamous for its, ummm rather pungent odor. But if you can get past that, the fruit is said to be glorious, with a custard and strawberry taste to it. Many places like airports have banned it, for obvious reasons.

I remember the days when I actually liked durians. Eating a lot of durians can warm up your body, but excessive eating may actually get you a fever.
I stopped eating it when I was 11. Can't remember what actually caused the diaorrhea but the last thing I ate was durian.
But a Malaysian can't be called a Malaysian until he has had a taste of durian.

It's a seasonal fruit, i dont think you can easily find it... but the ice creams are always available.... Good luck to find one in Romania.
I've got dozens of Malaysians friends studying in Egypt. They have to fork out $50.00 for one durian... TOO EXPENSIVE... they bought it from the Thais living in Cairo.

Salam Alaikum Brother:
The Beaver Tail we eat is a pastry. It's like a large, sweetened waffle that you top with a variety of things like blueberries, strawberries, etc. They are VERY, VERY good.

In South Louisiana the people are referred to as Cajuns. They are famous for their cooking and the fact that they have a recipe for anything that does not eat them first. We were long under the impression that they were Canadian French that were exiled to Louisiana as that was French territory.
Now, reading the stuff that you people eat, I am beginning to think they came from Malaysia.

South Louisian the people travel to a large extent in Pirogues or the more popular air boats.
Here is typical south Louisiana.
The trees in this particulr picture are bald cypress, one of the few confirs that looses it, needles in the winter months. The regular cypress keeps its needles year round. This is just a large stand of Bald cypress. the stuff hanging of the trees is "Spanish Moss" a bromeliad that is actually related to pineapples.

"Holy Rice"? :uuh: the Bario farmers are from Kelabit ethnic group right? Maybe the rice has something to do with their traditional religion... like the Kadazans and their paddy spirit (Bobohizan? I've forgotten about it, but they taught this in primary schools right?)

Louisiana and Texas are both rice exporting states. the US does export quite a bit.
I just found this story that shows our main buyers. It made the news because a bunch of it was contaminated.
The main importers of U.S. rice are Mexico, Central America, Saudi Arabia, Canada and South Africa. Long grain rice, the type that was contaminated, comprises 80 percent of U.S. rice exports.

Pirouges are a canoe that were originaly dug out canoes. The modern ones are made out of fiberglass but look like the old wooden dug-outs. The air boats are a flat bottm boat with a big air plane engine on the back and it is pushed over the water by a big propeller. They can go in very shallow water and some people say you can use them on wet grass.
The swamp lands cover a very large area if you look at the Gulf of Mexico The swamp land extends inland for over 100 miles except in Texas where it extends inland only for 2 or 3 miles in the Southern Part and about 50 miles in the northern part of the state.

:w:
Our Tidal plane swamps are very shallow. Throughout much of them the water is only a few inches deep. But there are deep channals where rivers are flowing and some ver good size ponds that alligators dig. It is hazardous because of the cypress trees the water is a very dark brown and looks similar to coffee so you can not see how deep any part is. Plus they is a lot os quick sand. Wading in the water is hazardous. The snakes and the alligators get the most attention, but they are the smallest danger.
so far no "Nessie" but it seems each area has legends about some type of ape-man. (yeti, bigfoot, sasquatch etc) Back in the 1500s when the Spanish and French were exploring the area there was one big danger on the Texas Coast. We were home to the Churanchua ( also spelled Karanku) Indians. They were a very fierce tribe. The only known cannibals in the Americas. Although they were a small tribe, nobody messed with them. They occupied the coastal reagion and upon the early arrivals of the Spanish they watched for ships that got sunk by hitting the hidden stuff in the shallow Gulf waters. They looked at the Spanish Galleons as being floating meat markets.
s cannoe... same as 'kayak'
they are very similar in appearance. Main difference is a true kayak is made of a wooden frame with either an animal hide or fabric covering. The entirething is sealed in except for where the passanger sits and often the can be closed around the passengers waist. In a canoe or pirogue the top is open.and they usually have 2 04 3 cross members that can be used as seats.

bitter melon
more info :

Laboratory tests suggest that compounds in bitter melon might be effective for treating HIV infection [7]. As most compounds isolated from bitter melon that impact HIV have either been proteins or glycosproteins (lectins), neither of which are well-absorbed, it is unlikely that oral intake of bitter melon will slow HIV in infected people. It is possible oral ingestion of bitter melon could offest negative effects of anti-HIV drugs, if a test tube study can be shown to be true in people [8]. In one preliminary clinical trial, an enema form of a bitter melon extract showed some benefits in people infected with HIV (Zhang 1992). Clearly more research is necessary before this could be recommended.

Coming soon...in your nearest cinema...SPIDERMAN IN MALAYSIA
Alain Robert a.k.a Spiderman, the well-known solo climber tried to climb the Petronas Twin Towers again yesterday.
And yet he failed to finish the climb as he did on 1997. In 1997 he was caught at the 60th floor, 28 short of the 88th storey skyscraper. And he failed again at the 60th floor when the Malaysian authorities caught him again.
After some research, I found out that Alain Robert is quite famous. He has managed to climb Taipei 101, the tallest building in the world, currently. The best part is that he climbed buildings using his bare hands, without ANY rope! Crazy guy!
Maybe the Malaysian government should take this oppoturnity instead. Let the Spiderman climb the KLCC for the Visit Malaysia 2007 campaign. That will bring a lot of media publicity - one time Alain climbed the National Bank of Abu Dhabi and there were 100,000 plus spectators! Sometimes he will do all the climbing for charities, so maybe we can use it to fund some Rumah Kenangans or Rumah Orang Tua-Tua.
I think that the Malaysian government should give this guy a chance. Something could go wrong but I think Mr Alain Robert would not mind. With 70 buildings already conquered in his already impressive resume, I believe he can do it well.
End note: It’s funny the guards did not saw him trying to climb the KLCC. 60th floor? That’s quite a record. FYI, the Sabah state government allowed him to climb the Sabah Foundation building (Yayasan Sabah) once and it was successfully done.

Land-clearing at highlands
TANAH RATA: Massive land-clearing activities at Lojing Highlands in Gua Musang, Kelantan, involving 25,000ha, is a disaster in the making, warned Natural Resources and Environment Ministry parliamentary secretary Datuk Sazmi Miah.
“The activities are clearly a blatant disregard for the laws on highland development,” he said.
He added that the ministry would immediately freeze all approvals for environmental impact assessment (EIA) applications at Lojing.
“We will not approve any EIA until we are able to rectify the current environmental damage at Lojing,” he told reporters after carrying out an air surveillance to check on land-clearing activities at Cameron Highlands and Lojing Highlands.
Sazmi said one badly destroyed area at Lojing Highlands was the clearing of 300ha of flat land situated about 1,400m above sea level for a paku-pakis (fern) planting project.
“We don’t know how the state government can do this as we only allow agriculture development to take place at areas below the 1,000m mark,” he added.
He said he was shocked to learn that the Kelantan government had issued land titles to 22 companies to develop three-quarters of the highland.
On Cameron Highlands, he said, illegal land-clearing had greatly reduced since the air-surveillance was introduced last year.
On a different matter, Bernama reports that Sazmi warned users of the East-West Highway not to honk at elephants that strayed onto the road as it would startle them and start a rampage.
“It is safer for motorists to stop their vehicles and wait for the elephants to go into the jungle before continuing their journey,” he said.

I've heard that, the police advised him to stop climbing at 59th floor, but he decided to stop at the 60th floor as Al Jazeera studio is located on that floor.... PUBLICITY!!!!!
Since 9/11, KLCC has a reputation of being the most secured place in Malaysia. The massive parking lot also has the reputation of being the safest parking lot in Malaysia. When I was in KLCC during the eve of Independent Day on 2002, the security strictly asked thousands of people to get out from KLCC as they have to close all the door by 12.00 AM.
But since this guy managed to do this... the KLCC management should implement more strict laws and to have a very good security enforcement. I dont want some wackos putting bombs and blown up thousands of people...

If he did it the right way (i mean officially)... it's ok....
But seeing him defying the strict security of the most popular building in Malaysia... is annoying....
I'm not hating him... I just think that the KLCC's management should impose stricter enforcement of the security of the place...

And this is the 'Red Durian'. A rare wild durian from Borneo island forest.
I never see this Red Durian directly. I knew it from web but I thought it was photoshoped, until I found article of Red Durian in "Trubus" botanical magazine, and I am sure it is real.

Actually that durian sandals was created not for walk around but for reflexology therapy. But that's the 'extreme model'.
Here, the 'safer model' that also made from durian leather.

That is good to know, that it is not for walking around in! Otherwise that would be a very alarming picture!
