Palestinian refugees see payouts stop
Palestinian refugees in Lebanon who used to receive money from the Palestinian Authority have seen their payments stop.
A considerable number of refugees used to receive assistance from the Palestinian Authority, but that has stopped after an international embargo was imposed on the Hamas-led Palestinian government since the Islamist group won elections in January.

Around 400,000 Palestinians are registered with the UN as refugees in Lebanon, the majority of them housed in 12 camps.

Kassem Ahmed, a Fatah militia officer living at the Ayn el-Helweh camp, had been receiving a monthly salary from the PLO for years, but since March has received nothing.

He relies on the salary because the Lebanese government bans Palestinian refugees from seeking employment and from obtaining work permits and rights to land ownership.

Sadly this is an excellent example of the assistance Palestinians recieve from their neighbors. It is this lack of cooperation that makes it so difficult for Palestine to become a self sufficient nation.

Interesting post. I believe the situation is the same in Jordan, and was in Syria. Might have changed though in Syria and Jordan, not sure.

Lebanon, Syria and Jordan have their own problems in providing jobs for their own citizens.... I think Saudi, UAE, Kuwait even Malaysia should provide places to live and jobs for the Palestinians...

Course, even if Palestinians were allowed to work there, they'd probably have the distinct honour of cleaning such prestigous offices as this:

Best get the old dustpan and brush out, eh?

Salaam,

All this show the weakness and duplicity of the arab leaders.

As well highlight why we cannot trust the west to support our coutnries.

They stop all aid and block any aid towards Hamas for the Palestinian people.
why?
Simply becasue they do not like hamas, and for the democratically elected leader they are willing to make the entire Palestinian people suffer.

They Palestinian are treated as less than an animal, why for if there ere no Palestinain ,who then will fight with Israel for the land?

As the Isrealis and US plicy is to ensure that the Palestinian and slowly the entire muslim world will be "oppresed till they are too fearful to stand up"

The Lebanese goverment backed by the US and the western world, not allowed to act during the war with Israel, they sit back and cry and weep ...when in their arm and heart lies the will to fight but they do nothing wihout their leaders word.

they have taken money and power as SUPREME while the Ummah is forgotten.

I'm afraid this is completely typical of the "support" given to the Palestinians by the rest of the Arab world since 1948. They don't care (and it made no difference at all whether 'backed' by the US or the Soviets) except when when appearing to do so might appeal to the masses and beef up any anti-Israeli rhetoric.

The reason for it is exactly the same as the situation in Jordan that finally led to 'Black September'. Nothing to do with an US/Israeli plot concerning oppressing the "entire muslim world", but the fact the last thing the countries concerned wanted was either a substantial Palestinian refugee/immigrant community on their land or Palestinian para-military and terrorist groups operating from it. In Jordan, the concern was not so much the possible Israeli reaction to the latter, but the possible shift of the balance of power within the country. You don't have to look beyond the recent conflict in Lebanon to see the disastrous effect of having essentially an independent armed force strolling around out of government control.

A suffering that is wholly the responsibility of Hamas. If they renounce terrorist violence and acknowledge the right of Israel to exist it will end instantly.

The palestinian refugees in Lebanon are a problem. We can't give them the lebanese nationality, they don't want it,they wanna go back to Palestine and it's their right. The situation in the refugee camps is awful, crowded neighbourhoods,houses...it's terrible. They are allowed to work in some jobs but not everything.I know this might not be fair for them but the lebanese have trouble finding jobs for themselves. The jobs they already have shouldn't be taken by palestinians and others as well cos they ask for less money which means that the lebanese workers will be fired. That's not fair for us.Is it?
There's also another problem, the palestinian have armed militias inside and outside their refugee camps and all the lebanese people want these militias disarmed cos they work on iranian and syrian agendas and they often shoot at lebanese citizens.I myself and many others won't go near a palestinian camp cos they might hurt us.We should have the freedom to go wherever we want without risking our lives.Another problem is that these militias will not let the lebanese police go inside the camps which is why many criminals take refuge there. They also played a negative role in the civil war but they're not the only ones.
The palestinians are causing us problems and we haven't been so good to them either .They should be given more rights and we're working on that but the real solution to this whole problem is to let them go back to Palestine. It's their absolute right. Why should we deny them the right to live in their lands?
U guys should look at the problem from both sides, the lebanese have had their share of problems...and the gov is facing enough problems. It's true the americans backs this gov but this doesn't mean that it 's not a good gov anymore. It's actually the best gov we've had in years. This is actually the first gov to adress palestinian problems but we have some problems of our own and wecan'r do everything altogether.

Look back in your history book a little farther to see whose land it was before them.

Jazakallahu Khair Sister Lara,
It is good to see a view from a person who is living in the situation. It is easy for us who are outside the events to give advice, quite different to see what is happening through the eyes of those who are closest.

The Palestinians are used by so many groups that do not care at all for Palestinian interests, but instead care to destroy it is not even funny. The Palestinians are being used by about every side of every society for persoanl gain.

Yeah?Well most americans have european and african roots and other people lived there before them.Does this mean that they should be kicked out of the US?
