No, souls remain in the body.

Then why did I read that Muslims visit Fatima where it is said that the Virgin Mary appeared?

Some people believe that souls can leave the grave and such.... that's not possible...

The closes you come to seeing a dead person is in your dreams or in the hereafter.

I cannot discuss this further without bring sectarian issues which is not allowed in this forum, nor does it promote unity among muslims.

So, just know that souls who are in grave have a window open to hell or paradise... they can neither escape the torture of the grave... nor would they give up the paradise to return back to this world :)

Personally, the thing that I don't believe is the images of Christ or the Virgin Mary appearing on a cookie, bathroom stall, mud puddle, etc. I know people are clamoring for a better world, but grasping at straws isn't going to make it happen. When Christ appears it will be quite obvious, and he won't be spreading his message from cookie dough.

Yousef Estes said:

When these people claim they saw Mary or when they claim to be posessed by the holy spirit we can only assume 1 of 2 things:

1 - Either they are lying
OR
2 - They are experiencing mischeif at the hands of the Jinn (who may be appearing to them)

and then he goes on to explain that in Islam we dont have visitations by holy spirits or mary or by any prophets etc, wether it is in body or in spirit.

But Shayateen amongst Jinnkind who are an avowed enemy of mankind, they make mischeif on earth and even taunt many people by appearing to them in human form

Here is the link to the apparition in Egypt http://www.geocities.com/area51/shad.../5318/mary.htm .

Fatima is a place in Portugal where she is said to have appeared to some children and given them messages. I can't find the article that I read about a month ago saying how Muslims visit the site, but I know I read it somewhere.

Oh well..I guess it's just one of those mysteries.

Salaam,

It reminds me of a saying when 2 angel were sent down to test the people.
The Angels were commanded to teach the people magic, and the people lapped it up,but the angles always say DO NOT DISBELEIVE>..

And the people fell from grace for believeing more in magic than in Allah.
