The global dawa efforts have reached new levels in the Kingdom with dawa activists adopting a new and innovatory mean to invite non-Muslims to Islam. A new initiative entitled “Call Me to Islam” has been set up to help non-Muslims convert to Islam or increase their knowledge about the faith.
All that people interested in learning about Islam have to do is send an SMS to +966-55988899. The initiative is the brainchild of the Al-Badia Office for Foreign Communities, which runs under the supervision of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.
According to the organizers, SMS messages are replied to by dawa activists who explain Islam with a view to dispelling myths and projecting a clear and accurate picture of the faith.
“Call Me to Islam” Project Manager Muhammad Al-Eiban said an SMS is the only barrier between people and what they wish to know about Islam. “They send their names, nationalities, language, religion, job and mobile number. Having the service via SMS makes it accessible for everyone who wants to know more about Islam but cannot go to dawa offices,” said Al-Eiban.
The service began at the beginning of Ramadan and, according to Al-Eiban, receives around 2,000 SMSs every four days. The office has so far dealt with 12,453 SMSs. Dawa activists use nine languages to communicate with interested people and have called 1,155 people so far.
