Nurul Afinah=The stupid one:uuh: Another familiar name and its belong to one of my ex-classmates.

Most of Muslims especially the males in Malaysia possesed Muhamad as a first name.But the recent trend shows a rare name become another option for today parents.

Anyway, maybe the Arabic speaking person could spread some light on this matter.

The most popular first name for man on earth maybe the whole world is Muhammad.:D

Assalamu Alaikum

wow..they seriously name thier kids this?!

I could only translate a few myself:

Baqarah = Lembu Betina
Cow

Fasidah = Yang rosak, yang binasa
Maybe something like "snitch"

Fajirah = Yang jahat, yang berdosa
I'm guessing this means like bomber

Ghaibah = Hilang
I'm guessing this means "skipper" (omg that sounds so weird translated)

Haqidah = Yang dengki
Grudged

Hasidah = Yang hasad
a jinxer (as in with the evil eye, name derived from hasad)

Hazinah = Yang sedih
The depressing

Huzn = Kesedihan
The sad

Khabithah = Yang jahat, yang keji
Sly

Khati'ah = Yang bersalah, yang berdosa
I don't know how to translate that but in arabic there's a saying in which you make someone swear upon..."khatiyah fi rakbatik" meaning put the swear/promise (?) upon your neck..so if something goes wrong you're blamed for it..i dunno lol

Khasirah = Yang rugi
The loser

Khamrah = Arak
wine

Kafirah = Yang kafir, yang ingkar
nonbeliever derived from kafir

Kazibah = Pendusta, pembohong
i think maybe liar (i pronounce it as kadhaba)

La'imah = Yang tercela
ill-intended, mean

Maridah = Yang menderhaka
Sick

Majinah = Yang bergurau senda tanpa perasaan malu
I think this could mean crazy (derived from majnoonah?)

munafikah = Yang munafik
hypocrite (derived from munafiq)

Musibah = Celaka, bencana, kemalangan
problemed

Nariah = Api
I think this means like "hippie" lol

Najisah = Yang najis dan kotor
unclean (derived from nijis)

Qatilah = Pembunuh
i think this means "killer" (derived from qatil)

Syatimah = Maki hamun
I think this means :X...well in better terms "without a father" or orphaned

Yabisah = Yang kering, yang sedikit kebaikannya
stubborn/hard-headed

Waqihah = Yang kurang sopan dan tak malu
i think this means like...one with bad desires or bad actions, not sure tho..

Wasikhah = Yang kotor
bad, dirty

Sadly..there is no light to be shed on this matter lol..i feel bad for these kids..I'd feel guilty calling them this from afar around some Arabs..subhanallah.

Bersalah means false I think. So a false person? :? Edit- It means guilty.

i think this means like...one with bad desires or bad actions, not sure tho..
Waqihah, the Malaysian meaning means without shame.

Daniyah means a weak or mean person, according to that translation. Thats my little cousins name. :offended:

Syafihah = Yang bodoh
Stupid. ;D

A name I never understood was Dunya. Seriously why would you name your girl that? :?

It means lost.
lol thnx for the correction. I just translated them by how I thought they were pronounced and through my dialect. I didn't mean skipper as in skipping through the fields or something, but as in absent from a certain place e.g. If i didn't go to school, I would be considered 'Ghaiba minul mudrasah"..skpping/being absent from school

I think Fajirat means someone evil.
Not sure, Allahu A'lem, I related that to the word "faj'jar" meaning to bomb/explode.

Either way, whatever they translate to, they aren't nice names to have lol

Oohh ... how sad that parents name their kids without checking out the meaning of the name - in my religion their are not espeacially "bad" names - according to religion that means (maybe escept names like Lucifer and similar)- of course we do not give our children names that has a negative sound in our own language, but you can never be sure that it could have a different meaning in another language.

I have named my own 2 boys with names that means " aggressive - from the planet Mars" manly because he kicked his way out fighting, my other boys name means "victory/conquerer/patron of children, sailoer and merchants"

oooh i forgot to tell that the malay spelling is different than the english spelling.

so the pronounciation should be different

for example

sy (malay) = sh (english)
su (malay) = soe (english)

and i'll add later

Can a Muslim name their kids as "Malak", " Mu`jizah"?
Reply

lolwatever
12-07-2006, 07:46 AM

mu'3jizah sounds wrong allahu alam... coz u cant lie in names... for example the prophet told that mother to not call her daughter 'barrah' coz its attributing a fake attribute that only Allah can judge with.

as for malak... ive headr of ppl with angel names like 'jibreel' (sheikh muhammad jibreel for xample) but ALLAHU ALAM if its ok or not.. better ask scholars insahlah :)

personally i dont like it.. malak sounds too rigid lol. can also be taken as 'king'.. in which case i prefer 'ameer' ;)

Malak (Angel), for me it might sound nice but it's like we describing the person as angel ...... right... (and angel are obedient to God and sinless, not like human)

^ u might be right, i thought malak is also another form of 'malik' (king).. which also means angel depending on context.

but regardless, i think dere's better boy names than malak lol.

mu'3jizah means 'miracle'.

oh those hayawaan songs are haram coz of the promiscuity they promote.

not sure about the 'ur my angel phrase' assuming its mahram saying it 2mahram... sounds cute but not sure :p

It's makrooh not haram:

It is makrooh to use the name Malak or Malaak, and what you should do is change the name to one that is good and is not regarded as makrooh in sharee’ah.

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) was asked about giving the names Abraar, Malaak, Eemaan and Jibreel.

He replied: The names Abraar, Malaak, Eemaan and Jibreel should not be used. End quote from Majmoo’ Fataawa al-Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (3/67).
