There was Islamic as well as Hindu architecture involved in the whole thing.

I have never been to Taj Mahal but as far as I know the man was a Muslim, as for the women I'm not so sure but I would say yes, Mumtaz is a common Muslim name in those parts.

I heard there is actually a Masjid inside it, as well as a tomb.

A second Taj Mahal, this time made of black stone, was also planned, but it was never built.

shah jahan made taj mahal in the memorial of his wife mumtaz mahal because she asked him to do so before her death.
when she was about to die,she demanded four things ie
1-the king should marry another
2-he should take care of her kids
3-he should build a great tomb for her(so he made taj mahal)
4-and should visit it every year
dunno whether he fulfilled the remaining demands or not????????:D
but was really a very devoted person.built such a great tomb!!!!!:D :D
btw taj mahal is not one of the seven wonders of the world,i learned that a couple of days before(from a website)

Are only legends :"A seemingly endless number of stories describe, often in horrific detail, deaths, dismemberments and mutilations which Shah Jahan inflicted on various craftsmen associated with the tomb. No evidence for these legends exists, and no respected authority finds them credible."

Those are not the original wonders, that is a new list. The real wonders are as follows:
  • the Pyramids of Giza
  • the Lighthouse of Alexandria (destroyed)
  • the Hanging gardens of Babylon (destroyed)
  • the Collosus of Rhodes (destroyed)
  • the Mausoleum of Maussolus (destroyed)
  • the Temple of Artemis (destroyed)
  • the statue of Zeus at Olympia (destroyed)

Let me get this straight, he built a mosque for his wife? I'm gonna go on a limb and say, shouldn't it be done for the sake of allah cause if this is true he aint gonna get an ounce of reward for it since it's done for a women over the creator.

It was a tomb for his wife, with a Masjid built in it so it would provide a practical benefit to the community.

I adore Taj Mahal. And I believe Temple of Love is appropriate since Love does survive Death. You shouldn't consider those who fall in the way of Allah, dead. They're alive... you just don't perceive them.

I would like to see this place before I leave this world. It seems so serene.

Most of Islamic and Persian architectures applied that famous shape in their designing, the circular dome and the half dome shape hall, also were used widely in diffetrent types of buildings like tombs, fortress, palace etc.The other famous trademark in Islamic architectural are the Minarets structures.
