Bring the Mandate for Peace to Washington DC on Jan. 27

Tell the New Congress:

Act NOW to Bring the Troops Home!

Join United for Peace and Justice in a massive march on Washington, D.C., on Sat., January 27, to call on Congress to take immediate action to end the war.

On Election Day the voters delivered a dramatic, unmistakable mandate for peace. Now it's time for action.

On January 27, 2007, we will converge from all around the country in Washington, D.C. to send a strong, clear message to Congress and the Bush Administration: The people of this country want the war and occupation in Iraq to end and we want the troops brought home now!

Peace Takes Courage

By Cindy Sheehan

I have a new friend. She is a 15 year young peace activist named Ava Lowery.

She is disgusted with the war and with the Bush regime and she started to use her talents for animation to make cartoons that oppose Bush and the war in Iraq.

She first came to my attention when I read an article about all of the ugly hate mail she is getting on her site for a particularly poignant and brilliant animation she has called: "WWJD."

It is a heartbreaking piece that has a child singing: "Jesus loves me" and during the song she shows pictures of dead, wounded, bloody, and screaming Iraqi children.

She wanted to show how Jesus loves Iraqi children also which is apparently a frightening concept to the people who practice Bushianity.

For this inspired bit of courageous matriotism, Ava has been the object of intense and horribly ugly hate emails and not too subtle threats to do her bodily harm.

...please go to her site: PeaceTakesCourage.com and drop a note of support to our little sister in peace.

Hillary for President?

How many of our troops are lying in Walter Reed with devastating injuries that could have been prevented if a Senate leader like Clinton had taken a moral stance instead of political one?

Stop it Now

By Debi Smith

"Newspapers are unable, seemingly, to discriminate between a bicycle accident and the collapse of civilization." --George Bernard Shaw

02/13/07 "ICH " -- -- The news media has been focusing an astounding amount of attention on the death of a former playboy playmate and troubled reality tv star. No offense to the memory of Anna Nicole Smith, or to her friends, family, loved ones, and fans. Truly.

It's understandable that news outlets would report her death. And yes, her death was more than a mere bicycle accident. But on the day after her death was reported, it was still "Breaking News", on every "news" channel, and front page news in hundreds of papers.
……….It went on and on, and is still going on several days later.
Yes, it's tragic that she died, but what about the troops dying in Iraq almost every single day? Do they get the kind of attention that Smith's death, and life, have garnered? Are their lives, and deaths, less meaningful?

…..Let's start with writing The Washington Post, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, USA Today, CNN, MSNBC, and FOX (it never hurts to try), asking them to give as much focus and space to the brave men and women in the military who are dying nearly every day, as much time and space as they are giving to Anna Nicole Smith (or whatever celebrity or drivel that is taking up news space at the moment).

And tell them to start asking the difficult questions about this war, and about the escalating talk (all a replay of what came before we invaded Iraq) of war or air attacks against Iran.

Imagine what might happen if hundreds, or thousands, or hundreds of thousands of us demanded this from our news media?

I'd like to personally commit to Molly's old fashioned campaign by posting weekly reports about the people dying in this illegal invasion to different locations on the internet.

I will do so out of respect for the deceased, out of care for the living, and out of hope that in some small way it can help make the unnecessary dying stop. The focus will mostly be on American troop deaths, but will also hopefully begin to include information on coalition and Iraqi deaths as well.
I begin here by recognizing members of the United States Military who died in Iraq--as reported by the Department of Defense--in the first seven days of February 2007.

……Sgt. Randy J. Matheny, 20, of McCook, Neb., died Feb. 4 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle.
…….Spc. Eric R. Sieger, 18, of Layton, Utah, died Feb. 1 at Buritz, Iraq, of wounds suffered when his Bradley Fighting Vehicle rolled over.

These men and women--someone else's son or daughter, father or mother, husband or wife, friend or lover--deserve our attention, and the attention of the news media. As do all the other men and women still in Iraq.

To the nineteen men and one woman listed above, who died in the space of a week, and to all those who have died needlessly before you, may your lives and sacrifice be recognized, appreciated, and mourned appropriately.

In your memory, in memory of the estimated 650,000 Iraqi civilians who have died since 2003, and for all those still fighting in, and living amidst, this illegal war, our rally cry will be: STOP IT NOW.

Debi Smith will continue reporting on this issue until it is no longer necessary to do so. If you would like to contribute information about the lives of the men and women needlessly sacrificed in this illegal war, please feel free to contact Debi at debi@mind.net

The U.S. War On Iraq Costs
$358,287,970,262
That must be costing every man woman and child in America dearly, All that money seems to have been used to spread enmity.

I just have some questions,

Could all that money have been spent in a better way?
Would it have been enough to make poverty history?
Could it have been used to solve global warming?
Could it have been used to make the world a better place?

In the spirit of praying for peace on Earth.

sure ; forget about Iraqi people .... the money could have been spent for US poor & Katrina victims.

----- may be not but if properly used , many people could improved living standards.

Many children don't get fresh drinking water even in USA . US Govt. should have spent money to provide them clean water.

Iraqis are People, too

By Cindy Sheehan

After spending two heart wrenching hours listening to two Iraqi gentlemen, one an educator, one a scientist, giving agonizing testimony about what is really going on in Iraq (outside the Green Zone), in Istanbul,

I returned to my nearby hotel room and read something from the AP that tore my heart apart even further.

.....A majority of Americans do find the casualties on both sides unacceptable, but now it's time to go from thinking "unacceptable" to action.

We need to get out of our comfy homes and hit the streets in the millions on March 17th, especially in Washington, DC, if for anything else, to demonstrate to the people of the world that citizens in democracies do not sanction killing innocent people.

We need to do it for our soldiers, but more importantly for the innocent citizens of Iraq. We need to demand an immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq and we need to demand impeachment for BushCo to restore the peace and to restore our reputation in the world.

After the program, the Sheik approached me with a translator and apologized to me for Casey’s death saying that: “We don’t want to kill your soldiers, but we are protecting our country, it is our country.”

Time to give the Iraqis their country back.

We never should have allowed Bloody BushCo to go there in the first place.

---Americans should demand that Bush must send one of his daughters & Chenny to send one son/daughter to join the Iraq war ----not only by supporting the troops orally but stay with them in the war field . I guess , war will be stopped immediately.

Now , the dead soldiers / murdere innocent victims are only NUMBERS to them.......if their kids go to Iraq , then they will understand what it is feel like .

I know , it won't happen.....who can force Bush & Chenny to send their kids in Iraq ?

Not Oil, But Israel: Behind the Iraq War
Stephen Sniegoski

http://www.thornwalker.com/ditch/snieg_oilwar.htm

The most popular argument of the critics of the Iraq war has been that the United States went to war for oil — that is, that the war had nothing to do with combating terrorism.

Writing in the Christian Science Monitor before the war, Brendan O'Neill reported that "for many in the antiwar movement, the idea that the Bushies' plan to invade the Gulf to get their greasy hands on more oil has become an article of faith, an unquestionable truth repeated like a mantra." ...

That goes against what I regard as the fundamental reason for the war: the war was led by neoconservatives and fought in the interests of Israel, at least as Likudniks envision Israel's interests.

Iraq: A War For Israel
Mark Weber

http://w ww.ihr.org/leaflets/iraqwar.shtml

So if the official reasons given for the war were untrue, why did the United States attack? Whatever the secondary reasons for the Iraq war, the crucial factor in President Bush’s decision to attack was to help Israel.

With support from Israel and America’s Jewish- Zionist lobby, and prodded by Jewish "neo- conservatives" holding high-level positions in his administration, President Bush — who was already fervently committed to Israel — resolved to invade and subdue one of Israel’s chief regional enemies.

Leaders don't actually do anything. You should know that by now! They point fingers. That's what "leader" means, finger pointer. They'll just continue pretending that they understand what the soldiers are going through. They'll occasionally pop their head in, say hello, and then high-tail it outta there, just as they've been doing. The Americans will never send someone in a position of leadership where they could get hurt--if they do, they won't have the chance to sit around all day arguing about trivial issues. They can't do their job of ignoring the major issues if they're out on the front lines.

You silly people and your common sense...

americans (who are finally starting to wake up, when they can tear themselves away from the shopping mall long enough), can demand whatever they want.
the gov't does not care.
some people believe that u.s. is a democracy. it is not. we are allowed to vote between 2 people who are not terribly different from each other and never represent the average american, but rather serve the interests and corporations who buy them their office.
uk i think is not that different. i believe the majority of people in uk (unlike in u.s.) opposed the war even in the beginning.

Poison DUst

A Must Watch Video

Poison DUst tells the story of young soldiers who thought they came home safely from the war, but didn't. Of a veteran's young daughter whose birth defect is strikingly similar to birth defects suffered by many Iraqi children.

- Every American who cares about our troops should watch this film.

Everyone who cares about the innocent civilians who live in the countries where these weapons are used should watch this film.

White Hot Rage

By Cindy Sheehan

I have long suspected that Blackwater Security and L. Paul Bremer (what’s his nickname? Scooter? Pookie?) were responsible for the insurgency in Iraq and subsequently the death of my son, Casey.

Iraq: Bush Failed, You Try

Question As an expert in managing crises of this kind, what do you think is the best solution to this crisis? Do you agree that this US-led war has not ever been justifiable.

Answer First of all, I personally was against the war (despite my many Iraqi friends who wanted to be rid of that very brutal regime), because I don't think you can solve crises in the Middle East by sending in American troops.

The record of the last four years shows how true this was. To find a solution at this late stage will be very difficult, perhaps impossible. But we owe it, not to the US, but to the people of Iraq who have suffered for too long, and indeed for the safety of the people in the region, to find a solution.

My organisation is calling for a multilateral effort including members of the Security Council and Iraq's six neihgbouring states to convene a conference of all principal Iraqi actors regardless of their outlook and bring them to compromise on the key issues that divide them: the nature of federalism, how to share oil revenues, de-Baathification, etc.

If this is done, there could still be hope (although it will be extremely difficult even then to stabilise Iraq).

And we must have hope. (Sorry: just lost electricity for a couple of minutes; I'm writing this in Kirkuk.)

Name Naf -

Question Not to sound pessimistic, but it seems there is very little the ordinary person can do, we have marched, protested and lobbied but still those in power have chosen not to head our warnings or advice.

We can keep trying, but at the end of the day the decision has to be made from the top (until the next election that is) – is their another strategy we can take?

Answer Very good question, and I can understand your frustration. Coming at it from a different corner, we have provided analyses and recommendations concerning Iraq from day 1, and all for nothing....

But the American electorate has started to punish Bush for his failures in Iraq, and perhaps the same thing will happen in the UK. Meanwhile, I wouldn't give up the protests and demonstrations, because we could be close to reaching "critical mass".

The real problem is that it is already too late for the many Iraqis who have died (for example, four carbombs here in Kirkuk today), and whatever solution may be constructed, it is going to take time.....

10,000 Mother of a March

By Cindy Sheehan

The time for being polite to our war-mongering politicians and organizations which support them is over.

The time has been up for years now: over four to be exact. Women in Iraq are afraid to go to the market or send their children to school.

Our occupation has killed many babies and destroyed many Anglo-Christian families and brown Muslim families and, really, families of all color schemes and religious/non-religious persuasions.

......... join us on our “10,000 Mother of a March” on Congress on Monday, May 14th, 2007, which is the day after Mother’s Day.

&&&

Jeannette Rankin continued to work for peace until her death in 1973 at the age of 92. The Jeannette Rankin Brigade of 5,000 women descended on Congress during the Vietnam War and she said:

“If we had 10,000 mothers willing to go to prison, we could end the war.”

........ The time has been up for years now: over four to be exact. Women in Iraq are afraid to go to the market or send their children to school. Our occupation has killed many babies and destroyed many Anglo-Christian families and brown Muslim families and, really, families of all color schemes and religious/non-religious persuasions.

We mothers have to stand up and put our bodies on the line for peace and humanity. We must look into the best parts of ourselves that make us mothers willing to care for and protect all children of the world, not just our own.

We need to access our hearts and souls to lead from a place of compassion and love not from war/fear mongering hatred and disgraceful threats and use of bullying force.

I am calling on a new Jeannette Rankin Brigade to rise up and have join us on our “10,000 Mother of a March” on Congress on Monday, May 14th, 2007, which is the day after Mother’s Day.

Marches on the weekends are not effective. We need to shut the city of DC down and we need to show people like Hillary Clinton and NOW that there are true women/mothers who want the needless and indiscriminate killing of our world’s children to end.

We need to surround Congress, demand an end to this evil occupation and refuse to leave until the Congressional leadership agrees with us, or throws us in jail!

I am calling on Mothers of the world to join us in DC, if they are able…or descend on US embassies all over the world that day.

I would love to see at least 10,000 Iraqi women marching on the Green Zone that day: marching in solidarity with us to end the slaughter of their children.

I believe millions of mothers around the world are tired of their children being used as cannon fodder and political tools in the games of war and killer sanctions.

Mothers united will never be defeated! It's time.

Please go The Camp Casey Peace Institute for more info.

The Crucifixion of Christ, American Style

By Jerry Ghinelli

Dressed in an orange jumpsuit and shackled at the wrists and ankles, he looked gaunt and sad at his circumstances.

08/29/05 "ICH" -- -- “For God so loved the world...” he returned his only begotten son to the land where he shed his grace on thee.

Vindication for the faithful, rejoicing for the true believers, it was the second coming of Christ—and he was coming to America. Not to bring Armageddon, but to save mankind from Armageddon.

...Looking much as he did two thousand years ago, the longhaired, bearded Jesus Christ, shabbily dressed in a robe and sandals, began to speak in a soft voice.

“Shalom, salaam and may peace be with you,” he offered.

“I, Jesus of Nazareth, use this sacred ground to symbolize where nearly four years ago, at this exact moment, man’s inhumanity to man was broadcast live for the entire world to bear witness to.

“Those who committed these barbaric acts thought of themselves as ‘believers,’ but only a believer in Satan could commit such a heinous act,” said Christ.

The applause rang out like booming thunder, echoing off the skyscrapers along the narrow streets of lower Manhattan, and down the section of Broadway known as the Canyon of Heroes. Shouts of “hallelujah, hallelujah” sent goose bumps up people’s arms.

The faithful were not crying; they were sobbing. Some people fainted.

Christ continued. “But I come before America today, for she is the greatest danger to world peace since Genesis.

“To suggest that God, our father, would ever be on the side of an America—or any country, for that matter—which attacks poor, defenseless, impoverished people out of revenge, fear, ignorance or greed, contradicts everything I stand for today and, more importantly, died for two thousand years ago.”

.....President Bush, speaking to new Marine recruits at Paris Island, praised the Lord Jesus and thanked him for his sacrifices. The President, who speaks to God regularly, insisted, however, that God also put him on this earth during these dangerous times to do his will.

“Christ is my brother,” Bush emphasized, “and brothers often have differences of opinion, that’s all. Christ believes in turning the other cheek; I prefer an eye for and eye. Or, as we say in Texas—dead or alive,” he said to applause from his troops.

“Semper fi,” shouted Bush.

Bush declared, “Jesus has never been elected to any public office. I come to work every day as your Commander–in-Chief with war on my mind. Christ speaks of peace this and love that… all kinds of dangerous messages in the post 9/11 world, when we have been attacked by the evildoers who can’t stand our freedoms,” Bush said, to a standing ovation.

Bush ended his speech by reciting his own version of “The Lord’s Prayer”:

Our Father, Who art in heaven,

Hallowed be Thy Name.

Thy Kingdom come.

Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.

And never forgive the terrorists,

who trespass against us.

And lead us not into appeasement,

and deliver the U.S. from evil. Amen.

I don't see the news very often but if President Bush really made this prayer, it is in direct contradiction to the Lords prayer. At some point he will have to stand before God, and justify this.

I don't see the news very often but if President Bush really made this prayer.....

----no , it's the imagination of the author. But , though Bush did not utter these words , he is proving all these/more than that in his actions.

Bush is not only killing criminals ( i doubt , how many terrorists are really killed in war against terrorism ) ; all i see--thousands & thousands of dead bodies of innocent civilians .

At some point he will have to stand before God, and justify this.
--- i m eagerly waiting for that Day , i would love to see how Bush , Blair , Zionists leaders , Laden ( if he really is responsible for 9/11 ) will be judged ? Ya , i know , we all be judged on that day but surely ( God Willing ) , we will be in better position than them .

In the spirit of praying for forgiveness,

The Measure of a Life, in Dollars and Cents

By Walter Pincus

What's an Iraqi life worth? How about an Iraqi car? - For the U.S. military in Iraq, it may be roughly the same.

What Every American Should Know About Iraq

By David Michael Green

While many can imagine political leaders making mistakes, most Americans find it inconceivable that an American president could actually put personal or political interests ahead of the national interest or the welfare of the troops, especially on so grave an issue as war and peace.

A cry for justice from a good man who expected us to protect his son

By Robert Fisk

I had seen British military brutality in Northern Ireland - I had even been threatened by British officers in Belfast - but I somehow thought that things had changed, that a new, more disciplined army had emerged from the dark, sinister days of the Irish conflict.

But I was wrong.

Baha Mousa, Daoud's son, had died from the injuries he received in British custody, a young, decent man whose father was a cop, who did nothing worse than work as a receptionist in a Basra hotel.

Verse of the day –

Be patient (O Muhammad (p ) of what they say,
and remember Our slave Dâwûd (David), endued with power.

Verily, he was ever oft-returning in all matters and in repentance (toward God ). ( 38 : 17 )
