Don't constantly debate with people who are truely misguided, If I can remember there is a hadith which says, "Don't sit with people of Bidah as it'll cause confusion in your hearts", give them dawah but don't let them sucker you into pointless debates.

The Messenger of Allaah (salallaahu 'alaihi wassallam) said:

"Whoever innovates or accomodates an innovator, then upon him is the curse of Allaah, His angels and the whole of mankind."

(Reported by Bukhaaree, 12/41 and Muslim, 9/140)

Ibn Qudaamah (died 620H) stated:

"The Salaf used to forbid sitting with the people of innovations, LOOKING INTO THIER BOOKS AND LISTENING TO THEIR WORDS."

(See Al-Aadaabush-Sharee'ah, 1/263)

Jazakallah Khair for the Ahadith.

As for the issue of making Hijrah from the innovators, the purpose behind this was to make the innovator feel left out, and isolated so he would leave his innovation and return to the Sunnah. This is in order that he may be guided. Our purpose is to guide them, not label them, and this is a point that we miss alot. That is why in the past we find the Salaf speaking about this matter, and encouraging leaving them alone.

Nowadays, the innovations, and the people that follow these innovations are much more widespread than the people that follow the Sunnah. Therefore, there remains no benefit in making Hijrah from the innovator. Today, what is needed is the few that follow and call to the Sunnah, to go to the masses that are in innovations are invite them to the Sunnah.

However this does not mean that we sit with them in their innovated gatherings, read their books etc because to hear them puts something into the heart. And Shaitan loves innovations more than sin, because a person can repent from sin, but not from innovation. So try to guide them, and not every person that doesn't agree with you is an innovator. You'll find the innovators having already innovated a matter, trying to prove their innovation by their twisting of the Ahadith and Quran. However those that follow the Sunnah base what they call to from the Quran and Sunnah itself and derive it from therein.

And refer to Ali Tamimi's series of lectures entitled, "Characteristics of the Ahlus Sunnah".

One needs to call to the Sunnah in a wise manner because our goal is not to judge people, but to guide them Insha'Allah. This is why Ayyoob as-Sakhtiyaanee (one of the Salaf) said:
“Indeed from the good fortune of a youth, or a non-Arab is that Allaah should guide them to a scholar from the companions of the Sunnah.”
