Hello,

My name is James. I'm from Derby in England.

I have just started a forum for discussion about religion and atheism, and would be delighted to have some representation there from Muslims. I'm an atheist personally, but I would like to have the opinions of a broad spectrum of religious or non-religious backgrounds. I'm an atheist personally.

If anyone's interested, it's http://open2question.dynalias.org

In return I hope to take part in the conversations here too.

Best wishes
James

Hello Tania, and thanks for your question. I have never "left" religious teachings, and I have been an atheist since birth.

I honestly don't want to argue about this, but if I may represent my position - I have simply never seen any evidence to suggest that there's a supreme being. Human history and culture is packed full of myths and stories, and the god idea is one of these in my opinion. I believe that the Universe as we see it is exactly consistent with the idea that there is no god, and I believe that to be the case.

Since I've come here partly to plug my site, however, I would like to stress that it is not an atheist site. It is intended for people of faith, or no faith to share their perspectives about religion, politics, and philosophy. I hope to do some of that here myself, too.

Best wishes
James

I didn't ask you to argue with you.I just wanted to know why have you left but reading your reply i realise your parents didn't guide you toward religion. :-[ "none from birth" it means 0 guidance toward religion.I was only curious :-[

Thanks for the welcome, everyone - and thanks for the reply, Tania.

With respect, although I'm not sure what you mean, it doesn't mean "O guidance", though it might mean "0 guidance toward religion". In fact both my parents were fairly secular Christians, and my mother tried to make me attend Sunday school at one time.

Questions are good :)

I appreciate the interest, Tania.

Yes, I was "Christened". Ah Tania, I've just noticed that you're a Christian! I had assumed that you were a person of the Muslim faith. I was about to ask why you were interested, but now I think I understand.

By the way let me also say that although I extended my invitation to Muslims here I would be delighted to have some participation from atheists or Christians too of course.

May I reciprocate your interest, Tania? How long have you been a Christian?

Best wishes, James

I don't agree, Tania. I never believed that a god existed. I did not volunteer to be baptised, and I would prefer that I hadn't been. I have never been a Christian in any meaningful sense.

:)

It is indeed an interesting read, but to be frank every one of those arguments for an existence of a deity is seriously misconceived, and has been debunked at some time or other.

That's not to say that this shows that there isn't a god - just that these arguments are fallacious.
