Whaaaaat?! Geekz?! I Have You Know Notes Are Very Effective As You Can Read Over Them Anytime! And I Personally Find Them Real Effective As Then You Can Use The Brief Notes To Explain To Others i.e. Your Family And Stuff. This Ensures That The Knowledge Will Stay Put Into Your Memory...And You'll InshaAllah Also Get The Reward Of Teaching And Applying What Knowledge You Earn!
PEACE!

Also Ahmed Deedat and zakir naik stress that if one simply listens then the knowledge isnt his, but when given a reference he goes away and then looks through the given reference, thats when the knowledge truelly becomes his.
Wise words mashaAllah :)
