I choose my own muslim name because I am proud of it and it reminds me that I am muslim even though I live in the 'west'. :)

02-27-2005, 04:48 PM
I hope that someone would ask about mine, so it could be discussed at the Comparative Religion section of this site. For now, I would like to ask this very important question for people to consider - Does a dog bark because it is a dog, or does barking make a dog a dog? The answer to that one answers this one as well - Does a person sin because they are a sinner (by nature) or does sinning make a person sinner? There IS a Biblical answer, from Jesus, to this question.

As the march hare, the hatter, the doormouse and Alice said:
`You might just as well say that "I see what I eat" is the same thing as "I eat what I see"!' `You might just as well say,' added the March Hare, `that "I like what I get" is the same thing as "I get what I like"!'
`You might just as well say,' added the Dormouse, who seemed to be talking in his sleep, `that "I breathe when I sleep" is the same thing as "I sleep when I breathe"!'
Is this relevant at all?

My name has 2 parts Aku & lion
Aku is my actual nickname from real life it can mean a multitude of things:
In Finnish it means: Donald Duck
In Malay in means: Me
In Indonesian it means: I
But I am none of those nationalities - So it was just an adaptation to my real name Akbar --> Aku
I love lions, they are my fav animals, thus the second part - Lion

Why Ameeratul Layl?
Well, the thing is, u must know the meaning of the two words:
Ameerah=Princess
Layl=Night
So, if u put it 2gether, I am the Princess Of The Night.
Why? Well, wat do Princesses have? They have diamonds.
When u luk at diamonds in the night....they are beautiful.
They glitter so dearly and they make the princess luk....Pretty
So, if u see put the tow facts together...Ameeratul Layl is a dear person. And thats me! :)

does ur first name happen to be HODA? because if it does than u and i have a lot to discuss
as for my name it means beautiful in somali and its really intended to be a joke( not that im big headed or anything) i chose the name because i had a good friend who always called me Quruxley (one who has beauty) and she moved away so Quruxbadaan reminds me of her ( and it helps that its a compliment) i mean i wouldnt use it if the name was Folxumo ( which means ugly ) LOL

some time ago i found out about the actor who played gandalf in the movie and i wasnt too happy with his personality therefore i changed my name to something im more comftable with

Jacquie
01-06-2006, 04:13 AM
Salam to All.
I chose Jacquie for 2 reasons:
1.My real name is Jacqueline, so Jacquie has always been my nickname.
2. When I took shehada 2 years ago, several friends chose Hajar to be my Islamic name, soon after then I met and married a brother, who decided who "Hajar" was supposed to be. He is a great brother, very religious and kind, but to say the least, he is from a very small farming village in Egypt, very old fashioned, and very stuck in his ways. His version of Hajar was this little farm girl with out an opinion, who memorized Quran, an "Ideal Muslimah". I, am a Strong minded Italian American Woman, born and raised in New Jersey. I chose Islam for myself and my daughter against my family's wishes (or should I say ORDERS), I love our faith, I cover, pray 5 times a day and then some, and I study as much as I can. Unfortunatly this was not enough for the brother, in less then a year he gave me all 3 divorces and made me hate Hajar.
2 years later, I am married to the son of a sheik, who is happy with "Jacquie", and encourages my Islam, and me being "me". I wish all my sisters an awesome guy like mine, if they exist :) So, my point, I also chose Jacquie, because I am proud of her strengths to be her, and to continue improving her faith and knowledge of Islam, even if I may never memorize Quran, Alhumdulilah, Jacquie is a Muslimah.

Faust
01-20-2006, 09:41 AM
I am the sad product of my times. This age is sometimes called the "Faustian" age. Johannes Faust made a pact with the Evil One and surerendered his immortal soul for eternal youth. He would live forever young and powerful, never dying, until he said he was content and happy...and in that instant the Devil would take him. But he has been undying now since he was first known...and Faust goes back 2300 years. Faust first appears in Histoy in the 1200's. He is recorded historically in Europe for nearly 500 years and then he came to America about 1740. He is still young.
He is still not happy nor content.
At its core, this new Faustian age and civilization believes in the self and the self's right and ability to control the conditions of its own existence. It exalts reason, but it is practical or "instrumental" reason, which is seen as a tool that humanity can use to manipulate the world.
Faustian society includes at least four elements that define the individual's changing relationship to the world of limitation:
* It uses science and technology to overcome the limits of the physical world.
* It brings together high technology and art to create simulations that can be used as substitutes for what can't be extracted from the physical world. The most important of these simulations are imitation realities, which provide people with experiences not available in the rest of life. Media and the Information age are Faustian.
* It adheres to an aesthetic philosophy, which sees the acting out of fantasies that express our fears and desires, as a form of art, entertainment and liberation.
* It views matter, life, culture and mind as deceptive appearances, which makes them simulations or something similar to simulations.
In addition, Faustian societies are characterized by the pervasive use of deceptive simulations to manipulate large numbers of people.
Faustian society is using the powers of rationality and the ego - of logic, science and technology -- to build a perfect world that answers to our desires. The goal is to create a new kind of person: a sovereign self, in control of its environment, including its own biology and mind.
In order to achieve this goal, it is trying to make the world as transparent as possible, so everything can be seen and understood. It wants to hold all existence up to an x-ray, because what is known can be controlled. This effort to bring about transparency and control, or knowledge and power, in the service of real human needs and boundless human desires, summarizes much of what Faustian society is about.
We can see intimations of the world as Faustian society would re-create it in today's simulated and automated environments and in some of the images of life conveyed by television and movies. These are early efforts to build and portray perfect worlds and perfect selves in which nothing is left to chance.
But we can also see in some of these same simulations, portrayals of the dangers that Faustian society poses to our relation to the world of limitation, including the danger that we might lose interest in "reality"; devalue it; undermine it, or lose the ability to distinguish reality from illusion.
Faustian society is already the dominant force in the contemporary world. Its power centers are the high-technology urban areas of America, particularly in the Northeast and West Coast, and the urban centers of Western Europe and Japan. The world's business, scientific and cultural "elites," many of whom live in these regions, are its creators, administrators and exemplars. They have enormous power to shape its culture, in the near-term. When seen from a broader perspective, they begin to look like the vehicles of humanity's desire to bring about a perfect world, as they produce forms of technology and representation that answer to their audience's needs and desires

Assalamu Alikum brothers and sisters, read this:
An Invitation and a Recommendation
(Regarding Revealing One's Identity on Internet Forums and Discussion Groups)
Shaykh 'Ubayd Al-Jaabiree
Source:
www.sahab.net, translation for
www.bakkah.net
All praise is due to Allaah, the Lord of all that exists. There is no animosity except for the oppressors. I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, who is alone without partners, and He is Al-Haqq Al-Mubeen. And I further bear witness that Muhammad is His Servant and Messenger. May Allaah make high mention of him and his family and companions, and grant them security.
To proceed:
Verily I have reflected over what has taken place in the latest fitnah and the results and outcomes that have appeared amongst our youth and amongst our brothers who are holding to the manhaj of As-Salaf As-Saalih. I believe that the great amount of al-qeel wal-qaal (gossip) coming from those who do not have much knowledge or awareness of Allaah’s Deen, His Legislation, or what the Salaf were upon is a reason for the kindling of this fitnah and for the spreading of its flames, especially since the majority of these problems can be traced back to the Internet and what is said and written on it, from those whose description I have referred to.
And from the most important causes (of fitnah) is the act of hiding behind (false) names, titles, or kunyahs that hide the identity of a person.
So in an effort to resolve this problem that grows, gains momentum, and spreads day by day, verily I call on my truthful brothers to apply the hadeeth of the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam):
“Whoever believes in Allaah and the Last Day, then let him speak good or keep silent.” [1]
And as Ibn Seereen (may Allaah have Mercy on him) said, “Verily knowledge is Deen, so look to whom you take your Deen from.”
And this is done by making known one’s real name, for whoever wants to take part in and write in these forums, especially the Sahab Salafee forum, let him take part with us in cutting short the growth of these problems and this gossip. [2]
After looking into the benefits of posting with one’s real name, the following things come to mind at first glance:
1 - One will take his time, contemplate, and think deeply before posting.
2 - We will know the level of the writer’s knowledge and manhaj.
3 - There will be no hastiness or unnecessary rush in spreading things before confirming them and referring them to the people of knowledge.
4 - Writing under one’s real name will bring about a sense of responsibility and accountability for what is being written.
5 - It will reduce excessive writing and spreading (of things devoid of benefit).
6 - It will restrict the writing and the offering of advice to the people of knowledge and their students, and not just every Tom, ****, and Harry will post.
7 - It will put forth the people of knowledge and make clear their true position and their true right and authority with regards to guidance, education, and criticism.
8 - It will allow the Salafee manhaj to be seen in its beautiful form and complete shape, by way of knowing the narrators and their situations and personalities.
9 - We will be able to apply the Sharee’ah ruling on the opposing ones, those who stubbornly resist (the correct path), and the liars. We will be able to confirm and verify reports if we know the individuals, but this ability will vanish or dwindle so long as we do not know them, or they are anonymous.
10 - There will be an increase in beneficial posts with knowledge, clarifying the manhaj, and weak posts or those devoid of benefit will decrease.
11 - We will nobly remove ourselves from the ways of the biased partisans and people of secret movements and organizations, and we will oppose their stealth and hiding behind nicknames or kunyahs when their attributes and poisons become known.
12 - We will spread clarity and mutual truthfulness, two attributes that are from the foremost attributes of the Salafee manhaj.
There are other benefits, good results, and outcomes that we hope to gain by the open display of people’s real names. So I hope that we will be the first ones to implement this good way on the Internet, so that we will gain reward for it, and for all those who follow us it.
So I repeat once more, I call upon our concerned Salafee youth, those dedicated to spreading good and repelling evil and reducing it and shutting its doors and avenues, I call on them to respond positively to this request and this suggestion. And I call on them to look into this suggestion with their intellects based upon the pure legislation that seeks to benefit from all forms of goodness and seeks to repel all evil. They will find that it will make them and their da’wah distinct, bring to light its truthfulness and inner purity, and the security of the manhaj of their da’wah and its good intention as well.
And I hope that the brothers responsible for sahab.net will join with us in conveying this invitation and this suggestion, keeping this post at the top of the page long enough for all or most of the youth to read it. And I hope that they will open the way for people to register with their real names and to change their kunyahs and nicknames. [2]
And may Allaah’s Salaah and an abundance of Salaam be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and companions until the Day of Judgement, and all praise is due to Allaah, Lord of all that exists.

I chose Aafreen 'cause... It is not my real name, but I chose it because of its meaning, which means brave/encouragement. :) And I like how it sounds.
I've read it is an Islamic name but then again I've read it is an Indian name, so it may be an Islamic-Indian-name... Well, hopefully it is! :offended:

Cheb is the first 4 letters of my nickname in highschool till now. My nickname is Chebbez (long story) but because people got so used to calling me that, they started making nicknames for my nickname lol ;D
I got called Chebz, Sheebaaz, Shiby, Chiby, Cheb ect.
So I chose Cheb because it is just easy to type and sounds somewhat more normal.

well mine was inspired by the rap group soldiers of allah- the female eqivalent for a soldier is a soldieress (i think :? :? :giggling: lol) so me was known as SoldiereSS-Of-Allah on other forums but that was too long for this forum so i stuk to just SoldiereSS with a no 1 at the end cos 1 represents top spot n me top......innit?! Mine was my earlier name before I reverted to Islam. It is old-English and means Protector of the forest or lives by the forest. Both of which aptly describe me. Prior to moving to Austin, I lived far away from civilization in a very wooded area, that I used as a wildlife refuge. Quite a large number of animals made their home on my land. Many deer, bob cats, coyotes, and even a few alligators in my pond. I do not hunt and protected the critters from poachers.

I changed by user name twice now. First it was Fenix-Angel... i chose that because for some daft reason i thought that was cool.... then it was ~Mu'MiNaH~.... and i didn't actually choose that. I asked one of the admins to make it Mu'minah_in_training, and they said they had to temporarily change it but that's how it stuck. Anyway I started to like it so I wasn't bothered to complain.
But then I thought it was wrong to call myself a mu'minah.... so I changed it to something that I aspire to be.... the mother of a shaheed.
