dear brothers and sisters, i have a question regarding surnames, when i had my first child, subhanallah, i named the surname as my own, so in affect my child's surname is my fathers name, is this ok? or should he have my first name as his surname?

In the UK the child takes the fathers surname or the mothers

You can't make a surname up in the UK

to original questioner why dont you have your childs name as

name...your name..your family name/surname
so your name is included. the surname would be the family title.

jazakalla for your reply, i have already given my son a double barrelled name :D so it is ok to have his grandfathers name as his surname?, i thought i read somewhere the surname had to be the fathers, i might be mistaken.
