Allahu A'lam.
error message:
Could not open key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\run.
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
i'm an administrator user.
I've tried opening run in safe mode and it does but only then.

When you click on run it doesn't show up? Or when you type it in the Run box?

Try pressing CTRL and ALT and DELETE - then Windows Task Manager will come up inshaa Allaah.
On the Applications Tab, there should be three buttons below -
End Task, Switch To, New Task.
Click on New Task and then the Run thing should come up inshaa Allaah.
If it doesn't, then maybe its something in your comp like malware which is trying to mess it about so you can't alter the settings?
If that is the case - i think its better to back up your work, or use System Restore. And to reinstall XP. One of the hardest things to remove from your comp is malware [malicious software.] And once it enters - you can't get rid of it easily.

There are several possibilities as to what happened. Let me try to eleminate the most likely first.
Is this a new program you have recently installed?
Have you run the program on that PC in the past?

Define recently?
I have installed several programs.
The first time I got the error was when itunes/quicktime was installing, it stopped; error.
The thing is, I can open run in safe mode and there is nothing in there which can be the problem, So it might be a virus running, which prevents me from installing any programmes which isn't running in safe mode obviously.

I am suspecting a faulty download with Quick time. I would suggest uninstalling Quick time and the itune extension. Then if that helps I'll tell you how to install a version of them that is more compatable with XP

Well, if it can't install, it can't uninstall.
I've tried uninstalling through the registry but this also doesn't work.

I deleted a few things in run which aren't of any beneficial use, in safe mode and voila it opened.

I ran into problems when I tried to install the combo package with Quick time and Itunes together.
I was able to install quick time from here. (the lower button) the one without itunes
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
after installing reboot and install itunes from here:

I installed Quicktime and then I installed itunes 6 instead of itunes 7 +quicktime (which is a whole lot of trouble).
Thanks for the help; JazakAllah Alkhair insha'Allah.
