Youth Unity Convention

Bank Holiday Monday 7th May 2007 Venue: Second City Suite Birmingham

On May 7th 2007 the heart of England, Birmingham, will host a landmark event in British history – the Youth Unity Convention (YUC) 2007. A unique fusion of speeches, Islamic songs (nasheeds), exhibitions, new product launches and a Bazaar area, which is assured to leave the audience overwhelmed.

The British Muslim youth have been stereotyped as underachievers, lacking in the ability to effectively voice their opinions, organise themselves or contribute to society. The event at hand aims to shatter this illusion.

The Muslim youth living in Britain who come from a range of ethnic, financial, social and ideological backgrounds have come together on one platform to arrange a convention expressing their views, values and beliefs, which, from concept to delivery has been organised by young Muslim professionals and students. To top it up, there is NO entrance fee for this stunning event. Allowing everyone to be part of this unique experience regardless of their financial position.

Being a minority in Britain that is constantly under scrutiny, Muslims can often feel somewhat isolated and alienated in a land that they call home. Whether it is an attack on a piece of cloth; the veil, or criticism on our educational institutes, it feels like a vicious circle that has no end.

Despite all this, Alhamdulilah we see many youth are increasing in their passion to understand, learn and practise Islam. Even with the onslaught of media and political propaganda we have many youth in universities and in society at large converting to Islam.

However, it is with great sadness that at the same time we see the Muslims in the UK remain divided, by groups and sects. They fail to respect each other and put their differences aside for the betterment of the Muslim community (ummah), which is one of the main causes of the current disarray in Britain.

Amongst the various messages being delivered at the event, a key issue that will emanate is that in a time when Muslim values are under attack by hostile media and political forcers it is time for Muslims to put their differences aside and unite on the common good – as the motto of the event entreaties;

“Hold on tight to the rope of Allah and be not divided amongst yourselves”
(Quran: Al Imran)

Verily, it is this instruction ordained by our Creator over 1400 years ago that the Muslims must implement to regain the glory and brotherhood they once attained.

If we work together with sincerity, love, knowledge and action, we will be able to take leaps in our progress. United we stand – divided we fall.

What's happening at the YUC Event?

The event will boast a number of powerful informative speeches by internationally renowned speakers and local activists. Furthermore, there will be a number of nasheed artists performing on the day, an Islamic exhibition, an Islamic bazaar area, delicious food, fundraising for the needy, a range of new Islamic products such as CDs, clothing and much, much more.

Who is The Event Aimed At?

This particular event is primarily directed towards the Muslim community. Howvever, non-Muslims are more than welcome to attend. The speeches will be delivered in the English language and thus would be directed to those who understand English.
