Musalsal, say: (it is) what has come upon a (particular) description – like: “Oh! By Allah, the boy told me!”

May I add to this an excellent book to buy, called "The Authority and Importance of the Sunnah", by Jamaal Zarabozo.

For a long time, this had not been available online, but now a scanned (but non-copiable) pdf is available to read and download here:

This book deals with the following topics: the meaning of "Sunnah" evidence for the authority of the Sunnah, the roles of the Prophet, the status of the sunnah vis-a-vis the Quran demonsrating that the two go hand and hand as the foundation of Islam, ruling concerning one who rejects the authority of the Sunnah, the preservation of the sunnah and what it truly means to be following the Sunnah. This book is meant to clarify a number ofcommon misconceptions and encourages the correct following of the sunnah.

I just stumbled across this book called, A Critical Analysis of the Modernists and Hadeeth Rejectors, by Sajid A. Kayum. I don't know anything about it but it looks useful for discussions with hadeeth rejectors:
