When I see these kinds of statements I always wonder what they use to classify someone as a Muslim.
In some countries you have to declare yourself a Muslim in order to be a citizen.
In many places you risk not only your life, but the life of your family, if you say you are not.

If a person never prays but there mother or father were Muslim, are they counted as a Muslim?

Provided they believe in God, and that Muhammad was his Messenger, I'd say they can be counted as Muslim.

"In many places you risk not only your life, but the life of your family, if you say you are not."

Probably true, but can you find some sources for this anyway? I'm questioning just how extensive that statement is.

why do you write lol to everything. I don't agree with you? If it is as you say does christians quantity increases poeple's belief quality!!! do they all go to churches do they all obey the religiuos rules???

And also with these words I don't want to irritate anyone who is christian . I say them because some christian people I know say that their dependence to religion is not as strong as ours.

Very true!

We are 1.5 billion, yet, we have been getting our rears kicked all over the place, for the past 600 years.

I believe that there's a Hadith where the Prophet Muhammad (ASW) stated that there will come a time when we will be great in numbers, yet very weak, which will encourage other nations (coalitions) to invite each other and devour us...

:wasalamex

Recorded in:
Abu Dawud Book 37, Number 4284.

Narrated Thawban:

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: The people will soon summon one another to attack you as people when eating invite others to share their dish.

Someone asked: Will that be because of our small numbers at that time?

He replied: No, you will be numerous at that time: but you will be scum and rubbish like that carried down by a torrent, and Allah will take fear of you from the breasts of your enemy and last enervation into your hearts.

Someone asked: What is wahn (enervation). Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him):

He replied: Love of the world and dislike of death.

assalaamu alaykum,

exactly quality not quantity!

how many of those 1.5 or 1.8 commit shirk as many muslims do? how many perform other acts of kufr? how many even pray 5 times a day as well as the other fard acts?

we are like the froth of the oceans with wahan in our hearts, may Allah swt guide us, ameen.

assalaamu alaykum,

The close companions of Allaah's Messenger, Muhammad (peace be upon him) were only a few hundreds, maybe in the thousands max. Yet through them Islaam spread over half of the world, from Spain all the way to China while they were still alive! Yet today we have a billion yet we're not worth anything, since we're not quality..

Like Ibn ul Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: The rulers are a product of their people.

And Allaah knows best.

To be honest. At this point in time, less population growth would be a better thing for the Muslims world. It would be a sign that these countries are finally developing, with less widespread poverty.

Scientology started with one adherent in 1952..it now has 500,000...that is a compounded annual growth rate of nearly 27%

In about 35 years, they will reach the 1.8 Billion level. You chaps had better get busy. :)

Scientology is not a religion, it is cult, and its population only indicates the number of people who are fanatically enthralled by Hollywood, in which case 500 thousand is not surprising. The fact that people are converting to this cult in America shows the level of intelligence in that country as being quite alarming.

One man's religion is another mans cult. I see little difference between the two. I just think some cults have more members than others.

Well.. I can't honestly say it bears directly on the discussion, but it does go to the question of growth rates of Religions.

Why does it have to be some kind of horse race? Wouldn't true adherents be content internally that they had found the world's true religion? Why do they need the external verification of a head count?

As Religion is fundamentally about faith..and faith is something within one's being...what does it matter how many others believe?
