i wish my cable company would offer international programing like the dish network does. I called my cable company last year and asked them if they would offer the arabic package like dish network does, and i got a pretty rude response.... i called back to cancel my cable service, but the customer service rep appologized for the other guys behavoir and gave me a 3 month discount on cable service...

but that still doesn't change the fact that they won't offer more diverse programing...

Right now my choices are hispanic programing or basic american programing....i called them and told them that i'm willing to pay for the additional service.

the dishnetwork offers programing in african, armenian, chinese, farsi, french, isrealie, russian, arabic, filipino amoung others.....and they have offered these channels for a while now....why can't cable companies figure out a way to do the same?

I think Satellite is becoming more mainstream. Its alot easier for satellite to transmit something from overseas, than it is with cable. When we had cable we also had to subsribe to dish network, but all we got through them was the Arabic package, which was really nice. Now we have satellite for allt he programming. its not too expensive either. Theres also a 3 channel music package, which satellite companies do not usually offer a package with a small # of channels.

My mother has a satelite dish thing, and she paid like £160 and that was it, now she has various channels, all that for one channel, the EriTv [Pretty Annoying Channel]. I was excited when I heard it was going to have arab stuff, but in reality alot of those channels have 'western' looking women doing soap dramas. And the brothers on the news speak tooooooo fast. Like I remember once all I understood out of a whole broadcast was 9/11 and Saddam.

the thing is, in order for me to get arabic satellite, have to get the entire dish network, i'd have to pay over $100 just for cable...

is there a way you can just get the arabic dish w/out the entire dish network?

Yeah ofcourse. You can just purchase the arabic package alone (many of my uncles and aunts and relatives who only watch arabic only get Arabic channels since they really have no interest in American tv). The only reason that we used to have cable and sattelite is b/c we only had the basic cable package and since then we have upgraded and got many more channels. You should call Dish Network and ask them your questions, Im sure theill be glad to help you :)

But none of those channels are dedicated 100% to religious (Islamic)contents.

The Muslims in UK are lucky!!!

We're lucky as pornography is a crime here... so no porn channels available on our TV.:thumbs_up
