Of course the Haramain and Al Quds will remain as the wonders of the Muslim world.

Let us make a poll about the 7 wonders of the Muslim world. Muzammil... can you make a poll on this. :okay:

Voted here (not there), but to be honest I tend to share the Egyptian government's views regarding this project.

No problems at all with a new 'official' Seven Wonders of the World list - the pyramids are the only original one left, after all - but I'm not at all sure the list should be determined by popular vote (think 'Eurovision', people) via a company only doing the project to make money.

I think the Great Wall should be one, it was certainly an engineering wonder of it's time. I don't think any modern power could build anything on that scale without serious economic problems.

I don't like Stonehenge though. Its rather small and insignificant compared to the many other ancient monoliths around the world.

Apparently those rocks of stone henge came all the way from Wales :? How they transported them from Wales to the Salisbury in the South of England is beyond me. Some people believe they had help from aliens :D

I think that's indicative of the problem I was suggesting. It's there simply because it is better known than those other sites. That's why Borobudur didn't make the cut whereas the Eiffel Tower, for example, did. Which is the greater 'wonder'?

Why on earth would the eiffel tower be considered one of the greatest wonders of the world???

In that case, the CN tower should be on the list!

I personally hope none of the modern marvels get it. No stature of liberty or similar. I find the ones that were built a long time ago to wonders. Not S of L or the ET.

I hope Muzammil can do it... but we have to give suggestions on those wonders in Muslim World.

But for the top-3 place, of course it would be the haramain and al aqsa.

Maybe because it's one of the ANCIENT WONDERS OF THE WORLD.

So they want it to be known as Ancient Wonder not NEW WONDER.

The Blue Mosque is in Turkey. In Spain, it should be The Grand Mosque of Cordoba (which is now a Cathedral)

Well, I didn't come across this thread until now ... but even if I had I am not sure I would have voted for the statue of Jesus.

In terms of a man-made structure (which, I gather, is what the poll was all about) the statue of Christ the Redeemer is pretty spectacular:
Apparently it "stands 38 m (105 feet) tall, weighs 700 tons and is located at the peak of the 700-m (2296-foot) Corcovado mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park, overlooking Rio de Janeiro."

In symbolical terms it must be pretty amazing to see that statue standing high above the city as a reminder of God's presence in our lives and his protection over us.

Apart from that, the statue has very little meaning (to me, at least).

God alone deserves our praise and worship. God alone is almighty and glorious.
Any statue, no matter how huge or grand, is just a reminder of that - and never more ...

peace
