Allah Subhanahu wa Ta Aaala says in verse 2:152 :
"Therefore remember Me, I will remember you. Give thanks to Me, and reject not Me."

Virtues of Rememberance of Allah:
The Messenger of Allah said: "The Mufarridoon have won." They said: "Who are the Mufarridoon O' Messenger of Allah?" He said: "The often Allah mentioning-men and mentioning-women." Reported by Muslim.

The Authority Of Abu Harayrah:The Prophet (peace be upon him) said : "Allah the Almighty said : I am as My servant thinks I am (1). I am with him when he makes mention of Me. If he makes mention of Me to himself, I make mention of him to Myself; and if he makes mention of Me in an assembly, I make mention of him in an assemble better than it. And if he draws near to Me an arm's length, I draw near to him a fathom's length. And if he comes to Me walking, I go to him at speed."
(1) Another possible rendering of the Arabic is: "I am as My servant expects Me to be". The meaning is that forgiveness and acceptance of repentance by the Almighty is subject to His servant truly believing that He is forgiving and merciful. However, not to accompany such belief with right action would be to mock the Almighty.
Reported by al-Buhkari (also by Muslim, at-Tirmidhi and Ibn-Majah).

Prayers are a form of rememberance of Allah:
Lo! I, even I, am Allah. There is no God save Me. serve Me and establish prayers for My remembrance. 20:14

The best and the easiest deed:
Abdullãh bin Busr recounted that a man said: "O' Messenger of Allah! The teachings of the faith have become many upon me, so tell me of something which I can adhere to." He said: "That your tongue remain moist with the remembrance of Allah, The Exalted."
Reported by At-Tirmithi,

Yahya related to me from Malik that Ziyad ibn Abi Ziyad said that Abu'd-Darda had said, "Shall I not tell you the best of your deeds, and those that give you the highest rank, and those that are the purest with your King, and are better for you than giving gold and silver, and better for you than meeting your enemy and striking their necks?" They said, "Of course." He said, "Remembrance (dhikr) of Allah ta ala."(malik muwatta Book 015, Hadith Number 024)

Hearts find rest only in remeberance of Allah:
"those who believe, and whose hearts find satisfaction in the remembrance of Allah, for without doubt in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find satisfaction.'' Qur'an 13.28

The difference between the one who remembers Allah and the one who does not:
It is reported of the Prophet that he said: "The similitude of one that mentions His Lord in remembrance and the one that does not mention His Lord in remembrance, is like that of a living creature compared to a dead one."Reported by Al-Bukhãri. Al-Albãni

Abu Musa reported Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) as saying: The house in which remembrance of Allah is made and the house in which Allah is not remembered are like the living and the dead.(Sahih Muslim Book 004, Hadith Number 1706)

The Satan seeks to turn you away from the rememberance of ALLAH:
Satan seeketh only to cast among you enmity and hatred by means of strong drink and games of chance, and to turn you from remembrance of Allah and from (His) worship. Will ye then have done? 5:91

The devil hath engrossed them and so hath caused them to forget remembrance of Allah. They are the devil's party. Lo! is it not the devil's party who will be the losers? 58:19

Dont get careless about it:
ieve! Let not your wealth nor your children distract you from remembrance of Allah. Those who do so, they are the losers.63:9 And spend of that wherewith We have provided you before death cometh unto one of you and he saith: My Lord! If only thou wouldst reprieve me for a little while, then I would give alms and be among the righteous. 63:10 But Allah reprieveth no soul when its term cometh, and Allah is Aware of what ye do.63:11

Narated By Samura bin Jundab : The Prophet said in his narration of a dream that he saw, He whose head was being crushed with a stone was one who learnt the Quran but never acted on it, and slept ignoring the compulsory prayers." (Sahih Bukhari Vol 002, Book 021, Hadith Number 244.)

Consequences of not remembering ALLAH:
And he whose sight is dim to the remembrance of the Beneficent, We assign unto him a devil who becometh his comrade; 43:36 And lo! they(devils) surely turn them from the way of Allah, and yet they deem they are rightly guided; 43:37 Till, when he cometh unto Us, he saith (unto his comrade): Ah, would that between me and thee there were the distance of the two horizons, an evil comrade! 43:38

dhikr the best deed better than jihad and spending gold. I think scholars said it is better than jihad because Dhikr is the main reason why we are in this world. To remember who our Creator is. Not everyone can perform Jihad but everyone can perform this deed. Also wanted to add that the word Insan (human beings) comes from a root word meaning to forget. With Dhikr we are made to Remember our Creator.

Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah narrated on the authority of Abi Darda that the Prophet said, "Do you want me to tell you of your best deeds, and the most honored and praised and sanctified to Your Lord, and the highest in its reward; better than spending gold and better than meeting your enemy and cutting their necks in the jihad?" They said, "Yes, Ya Rasulallah." He said, "Dhikrullah."

The Prophet (s) said, "Everything has its polish and the polish of hearts is dhikrullah."
