[PIE]This is what Michael the Elder, Jacobite Patriarch of Antioch wrote in the latter part of the twelfth century, after five centuries of Muslim rule in that region:

"This is why the God of vengeance, who alone is all-powerful, and changes the empire of mortals as He will, giving it to whomsoever He will, and uplifting the humble beholding the wickedness of the Romans who throughout their dominions, cruelly plundered our churches and our monasteries and condemned us without pity, brought from the region of the south the sons of Ishmael, to deliver us through them from the hands of the Romans. And if in truth we have suffered some loss, because the Catholic churches, that had been taken away from us and given to the Chalcedonians, remained in their possession; for when the cities submitted to the Arabs, they assigned to each denomination the churches which they found it to be in possession of (and at that time the great churches of Emessa and that of Harran had been taken away from us); nevertheless it was no slight advantage for us to be delivered from the cruelty of the Romans, their wickedness, their wrath and cruel zeal against us, and to find ourselves at people. (Michael the Elder, Jacobite Patriarch of Antioch wrote this text in the latter part of the twelfth century, after five centuries of Muslim rule in that region[/PIE]

Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) sent a message to the monks of Saint Catherine in Mount Sinai:

"This is a message written by Muhammad ibn Abdullah, as a covenant to those who adopt Christianity, far and near, we are behind them. Verily, I defend them by myself, the servants, the helpers, and my followers, because Christians are my citizens; and by Allah! I hold out against anything that displeases them. No compulsion is to be on them. Neither are their judges to be changed from their jobs, nor their monks from their monasteries. No one is to destroy a house of their religion, to damage it, or to carry anything from it to the Muslims' houses. Should anyone take any of these, he would spoil God's covenant and disobey His Prophet. Verily, they (Christians) are my allies and have my secure charter against all that they hate. No one is to force them to travel or to oblige them to fight. The Muslims are to fight for them. If a female Christian is married to a Muslim, this is not to take place without her own wish. She is not to be prevented from going to her church to pray. Their churches are to be respected. They are neither to be prevented from repairing them nor the sacredness of their covenants. No one of the nation is to disobey this covenant till the Day of Judgment and the end of the world."

The Letter that our beloved Prophet wrote was recorded in Arabic. here is details of the location it was found in.

[PIE]Saint Catherine Monastery is located in Egypt’s Sani desert. Saint Catherine city is famous for its various sites, e.g. Firon village. Firon is considered a garden rich with the best kinds of fruits of special taste, such as apricots, peach and cantaloupe in addition to the best kind of olives. Furthermore, the city houses Maktab Valleys that is located near Maghara Valleys, besides thousands of unique historical engravings. Saint Catherine area encompasses many significant sites including al-Tarfas site that dates back to more than 30,000 years, and abu-Madis site that dates back to 10,000 years. The latter enjoys a world-wide fame, particularly among specialists, as it witnessed one of the major civilizational transformations from hunting and shooting to agriculture and grazing. In addition, Saint Catherine area is famous for the matchless locations of residential villages, dating back to thousands of years. These villages include Prophet Saleh’s (PBUH) site, that is called al-Marwas, Sheikh Mohsens site, and Sheikh Awwads site. Alexandrian Saint. The Monastery was built in the 6th century A.D or the 4th century A.D., according to some sources. It is located at the foot of Mount Sinai on one of Wadi al-Sheikhs branches, and rises about 5012 feet above sea level. In 545 A.D, the Monastery was constructed by King Postilianos as a fortress for Sinai monks. It comprises several monuments that presumably date back to the Christ’s era. In addition, the monastery houses a large library that is south of the big Church. It consists of three adjacent rooms and which comprises about 6000 old historical, geographical and philosophic manuscripts, written in Greek, Syriac and Arabic. Many of the monastery manuscripts were written in different languages other than Arabic. As for most of the Christian heritage, it was written in Arabic, especially the copies of the Old Testament and the New Testament (The Bible). With the help of the Metropolitan Museum of New York, a new museum has been recently inaugurated inside Saint Catherine Monastery. The new museum houses distinguished collections of rare books and volumes written in Greek, Coptic, Syriac, Latin and Arabic, and they date back to the first seven centuries A.D. Among the major acquisitions is an important document, dating back to the year 2 A.H. It is al-’Ohda al-Mohamadeyas; a document signed by Prophet Muhammad , to guarantee full protection for the monastery and Egypt’s Christians. In 625 AD, the Popes of the old monastery went to Prophet Muhammad in Al-Madina, for discussion. The result of this discussion was this document.[/PIE]

The English translated text of the Charter of Privileges was extracted from the Book ‘Muslim History: 570 - 1950 C.E.’ by Dr. A. Zahoor and Dr. Z. Haq, ZMD Corporation.

i really doubt the authenticity of that letter, the Quran and the prophet specifically taught against taking non muslims as allies, specifically christians! yet this letter has the blessed prophet Muhammad saying they are his allies? i think not.

secondly, the prophet calls himself messenger of God, not son of abdullah, he was once forced to write son of abdullah when writing the treaty with the pagans who refused to allow him to write Muhamad messenger of God, he always makes letters with his name saying Muhammad messenger of God, not like this letter.

thirdly how can the prophet hold out anything that displeases them when the Quran says that Islam displeases them?!!!!!!!!!!! and u think certain Quranic teachings wont displease them? and the prophet CURSED christians who build churches on places of graves, u think that doesnt displease them?

sorry all these inconsistencies prove the document is a forgery which was never written by the blessed prophet Muhammad, they just dont sit togethor, unless your a moderate muslim you will say there are no inconsistencies, yet moderate muslims are sell outs and make their own rules up. :)

don't know if the letter is real or fake....but it seems to me that u have a misconception about Islam. Quran does not teach us to hate non-Muslims ........remember Muslim men are allowed to marry Jew & Christians.

few lines :

Does Islam Forbid Befriending Non-Muslims?

Allah forbids you not with regard to those who fight you not for your faith, nor drive you out of your homes, from dealing kindly and justly with them.

For Allah loves those who are just.

Allah only forbids you with regard to those who fight you for your faith,

and drive you out of your homes and support others in driving you out, from turning to them for protection (or taking them as wali).

Those who seek their protection they are indeed wrong- doers.

(Al-Mumtahinah 60: 8-9)

..If friendship between Muslims and Jews or Christians was forbidden, then why would Islam allow a Muslim man to marry a Jew or Christian woman? It is the duty of Muslims to patronize Muslims. They should not patronize any one who is against their faith or who fights their faith, even if they were their fathers and brothers. Allah says: [O you who believe! Take not for protectors (awliya') your fathers and your brothers if they love unbelief above faith. If any of you do so, they are indeed wrong-doers.] (Al-Tawbah 9: 23)

In a similar way, the Qur'an also tells Muslims that they should never patronize the non-Muslims against other Muslims.

However, if some Muslims do wrong to some non-Muslims, it is Muslims' duty to help the non-Muslims and save them from oppression.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that he himself will defend a Dhimmi living among Muslims to whom injustice is done by Muslims

some realeted info :)

The prophet SAW's last sermon

All mankind is from Adam and Eve.

An Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab, nor does a non-Arab have any superiority over an Arab; white has no superiority over black, nor does a black have any superiority over white;

[none have superiority over another] except by piety and good action.

Myth of Islamic intolerance

When a deputation of the Christians of Najran came to see the Prophet, he not only allowed them to stay in his mosque, but they were also allowed to pray in the mosque according to their beliefs.

The Prophet also granted them a charter similar to the one mentioned above:

"...To the Christians of Najran and the neighboring territories, the security of God and the pledge of His Prophet are extended for their lives, their religion, and their property...

There shall be no interference with their faith or their observances, nor any change in their rights and privileges... They shall continue to enjoy everything great or small as heretofore..."

The Prophet saws3&#377E21x10 - was not only the head of the first Islamic state, but was also the supreme judicial authority.

Non-Muslims would also come to him for the settlement of their disputes and he would adjudicate in accordance with their laws. While deciding between a Muslim and a non-Muslim, he would strictly observe the Quranic instructions regarding equality before law, and never made any distinction between litigants on the basis of religion.

verses for this life & the life hereafter

Now if God were to take men [immediately] to task for all the evil that they do [on earth], He would not leave a single living creature upon its face.

However, He grants them respite until a term set: but when the end of their term approaches, they can neither delay it by a single moment, nor can they hasten it.
