Question (dated): 2003 -

If someone is a real Muslim, yet there are some who are hurting him or making fun of him, does this mean that Allah is not accepting his prayers and is not welcoming him into Paradise?
Or
does it imply that Allah is testing him very much for some greater purpose?

Bismillah Rahman Raheem

Thank you for writing and for your question. You are exactly right in what you are saying in your question. This life is a test.

First let us begin with Basics Of Islam.

Here are some important points to keep in mind:

1. As Muslims we cannot lie about anything, especially about our religion.

2. We have original recorded sources of our religion:

A) The Quran

B) Teachings of Muhammad
This is a unique part of Islam, not available in any other ancient religions.

3. Sometimes "questions" contain misinformation. We must qualify what it is that someone is saying against what they are implying.

4. If during the answer, you hear yourself saying, "I didn't know that" or "This is good," then are you ready to worship your God and your Lord without and partners?

This what Islam is really all about. The most important subject is the worship of Almighty God, without any partners or associates or "gods" besides Almighty God.

Answer:

Allah tells us in the Quran that this life is a test for the believers and from time to time it will be difficult. The outcome is the important thing and we are not to worry about the discomforts of this life, rather look forward to the Next Life.
Do people think that they will be left alone because they say: "We believe," and will not be tested.
And We indeed tested those who were before them. And Allah will certainly make (it) known (the truth of) those who are true, and will certainly make (it) known (the falsehood of) those who are liars, (although Allah knows all that before putting them to test).[Surah Al Ankabut 29:2-3]

Or think you that you will enter Paradise without such (trials) as came to those who passed away before you? They were afflicted with severe poverty and ailments and were so shaken that even the Messenger and those who believed along with him said, "When (will come) the Help of Allah?" Yes! Certainly, the Help of Allah is near!
[Surah Baqarah 2:214]

Our beloved prophet, Muhammad, peace be upon him, told us that this whole material life (hayatu dunyah) is nothing more than a prison to the true believers and for the non-believers it is their paradise.

In another saying, he, peace be upon him, told us that if the entire universe in the sight of Allah was even worth so much as the wing of the mosquito, then Allah would not even give the disbelievers a single tiny sip of water to drink.

We see from this that indeed, our whole existence here on earth is all for one and only one, purpose: to be tested by Allah. The test is to see if we will worship Allah, alone without any partners. If we do, we pass the test. If we don't then we are really going to suffer in the next life.

Actually, this is the most important concept in the "philosophy" of Islam. We are only here to be tested by Allah. This life is not our final abode and we are going to die and then be brought back on Judgment Day for examination and the be sent to the proper place according to our belief and our actions.
