Ramadan Project For Muslim Prisoners

Once again we will be collecting essential items for a Ramadhan pack as well as on going items desperately needed by Muslim inmates at Pentonville, Brixton and Belmarsh prisons. Items that we are looking for in the snack packs include: dry foods such as dates and peanuts, chewy bars, lots of water bottles, carton juices, sweets, biscuits, etc. The items which are ongoing and which we have been collecting throughout the year are: Quraans in Arabic and other languages, 'Fortress of a Muslim' du'a books, miswaak, alarm clocks, prayer mats, itar, caps, audio recitation, materials on learning how to pray, etc.

If you can help with organising collecting, donating, co-ordinating any of the above items, or even helping to prepare around 100-300 Ramadhan gift packs, please do get in contact us:

COLLECTION FOR MUSLIMS IN PRISON THIS RAMADHAN

You may be aware that HMP Wormwood Scrubs in West London has a very large Muslim population. Today's count was showing 283 registered.

With the holy month of Ramadhan so near, planning has already begun to make this a very special Ramadhan and Eid for them. One of the things we are planning to do is give them a special Ramadhan pack.

This will contain dates, tasbih, itar, hat, books and literature, alarm clocks, prayer mats, Quran CD's, etc. Alhamdulillah, some of you have promised to supply some of the items and we have managed to collect a number of these things already. We are also arranging for them to have special food during the last 10 nights of Ramadhan.

First and foremost we would like to request you all to remember us in your du'aas during these blessed days.
Secondly, if you could help us collect these items. We are desperately in need of prayer mats more than anything else. You can help us by forwarding this information to others on your contact list, by speaking to friends and family, and anything that you feel would help our cause.

Any help would be most appreciated.
With your assistance we can make this a very special Ramadhan for our Muslim brothers at Wormwood Scrubs prison.

May Allah accept your efforts and reward you in both worlds.

If you require any further information please do not hesitate to e-mail Br Ibrahim Mehtar (Muslim Chaplain / Imam at HMP Wormwood Scrubs) on Ibrahim.Mehtar@hmps.gsi.gov.uk

MUSLIM YOUTH HELPLINE’S: RAMADAN PRISON CAMPAIGN 2007

I tried holding back on the tears when I listened to the CD of the
Qur'an but the words of Allah filled my heart with love for him and
our Prophet (saw). So thank you for your special gift. -19 year
old Prisoner, Portland YOI

The MYH Prison Campaign aims to reach out to Muslim youth in Prison
during the month of Ramadan to help them feel less isolated from the
wider Muslim community. We also aim to encourage the engagement of
the Muslim community in order to breakdown the taboo that marginalises
ex-offenders and often plays a big factor in causing them to re-offend

In order to make this campaign a success we need your support.

1. To encourage your friends and family to sponsor a giftbox for just £12

https://myh.workwithus.org/Fundraisi....aspx?page=610

2. To encourage your friends and family to write a brief ‘message of support’
this will go out to all of the prisoners and is the first thing they read.

3. Volunteer to attend publicity and fundraising activities that we organise.

Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (saw) once said “Help those who have been wronged and the wrongdoer.” A man asked “Oh Messenger of Allah. I can help those that have been wronged, but how can I help the wrongdoer?” The Prophet (saw) replied “You can help the wrongdoer by preventing them from wrongdoing.”

AN EVENT TO REMEMBER MUSLIM PRISONERS IN THE UK AND ABROAD

6 years after 9/11, the number of Muslims in Western prisons continues to soar. Many of these Muslims are not behind bars due their involvement in drug related crime, violence or hooliganism, but are instead prisoners of conscience- prisoners whose only crime has been to voice an opinion. They have either been found guilty 'by association' or are languishing behind bars through laws that permit indefinite detention. Those are the fortunate ones.

Other Muslim prisoners have either been subjected to torture and abuse in legal anomalies such as Camp X-Ray, or have disappeared altogether, only to resurface in Gulags of the modern world. All these prisoners have one thing in common- they have all been robbed of their human rights.

This Iftaar has been arranged to remember the plight of these prisoners and their families.

GUEST SPEAKERS:

MUDDASSAR ARANI (Arani and Co.Solicitors)
SHERAZ KHAN (Muslim Prisoner Support Group)
UTHMAN LATEEF (Hittin Institute)
MUHAMMAD AL GABRA (Ex-Belmarsh Detainee)
MURTAZA KHAN

STATEMENTS FROM REPRESENTATIVES OF DETAINEES AND MUSLIM PRISONERS

3.00 PM TO 9.00 PM

SATURDAY 29TH SEPTEMBER

COME AND WITNESS FIRSTHAND WHAT THIS INJUSTICE IS ALL ABOUT.

* Note: Iftaar arrangements include Dates and Milk, and cooked
meals for up to 300 attendees.

Please bring appropriate clothing in case of weather change.
