View Full Version : Texan spiders spin 'monster web'

Peace,

An enormous spider web has been found at Lake Tawakoni State Park, Texas, US.

It is not the work of one giant spider - rather, millions of small ones have been spinning away and now it is twice the size of a football field.

Park rangers are not sure why the spiders have joined forces - they describe it as a rare occurrence.

Texas A&M University entomologist Professor John Jackman told Associated Press that there were reports of similar webs every couple of years.

The web covers a 180m (650ft) stretch of trees and shrubs in the park.

Although it was initially described as "fairy-tale" white, it has turned brown from all the mosquitoes caught in its trap.

Experts say the web is either the work of social cobweb spiders that work together, or it has been created by spiders spreading out from a central point.

The park superintendent, Donna Garde, has invited arachnid and insect specialists to the park to study it first-hand.

Rangers said they expected the web to last until the autumn, when the spiders will start dying off.

Very interesting observation. Some good food for thought.

Why is it millions of spiders can join together, with only the intelligence of a spider, and build a massive community and even share it with other species.

While us humans can't even live peacefully in a small town, much less accept people that act, believe or look different?

Somehow, I think the local fly population might have a rather different perspective. :D

Amazing sight, though. I'm glad it's not in my back yard.. I don't think I could see that without thinking about one BIG spider, and not lots of little ones!

These creatures where created By Allah(SWT) without freewill, the consequences of our freewill having the ability to reject Allah(SWT) and his advice is the problem :(

I wasn't born with thaaaaaat sense..

!! ^

The Prophet (s.a.w) said, "Whoever kills a sparrow or anything bigger than that without a just cause, Allah will hold him accountable on the Day of Judgment." The listeners asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what is a just cause?" He replied, "That he will kill it to eat, not simply to chop off its head and then throw it away." (Nisai, Hakim).

The Prophet (Allah bless him & give him peace) said, " Do not harm the creation of Allah." [Abu Dawud, from al-Ma`rur ibn Suwayd. Imam Jamal al-Din al-Zayla`i declared it to be a rigorously authenticated (sahih) hadith in Nasb al-Raya.]

Salam sister,

I found this on the web..

Q: Is it permissible to kill spiders? I heard we should not kill spiders as a spider constructed a webb to protect Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) in Ghaar-e-Sawr (cave of Thawr).

A: The Ulama have differences of opinion with regards to the killing of spiders. Some Ulama dislike the killing of spiders due to it having made a webb at the cave of Thawr for the protection of Nabi (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam). This is also the view of Hadhrat Ali (Radhiallaahu Anhu). However, Tha’laby and ibn Atiyya have narrated another narration of Hadhrat Ali (Radhiallaahu Anhu), ‘Cleanse your homes from the webbs of spiders as leaving it creates poverty.’ The second view is supported by those Ahaadith which suggests a person to keep his homes and courtyards clean.’ (Ma’ariful Qur’aan part6 pg.682; Darul Kitab)

I'll try looking for the hadiths inshallah :)
Hope this helps.

Oh my god...I got chills down my back just by looking at those pictures.

*shivers*

Some people are scared of snakes, others are scared of rats...as for me...

I am absolutly TERRIFIED of spiders.(I know,it's a bit childish..)but I can't help it they FREAK me out.

The idea of it being millions of little spiders doesn't sit well with me...i'd rather it be one huge spider.*shivers even more*,

you know what?Im out of this thread!

:w:

lol

p.s: It is quite amazing though, subhan'allah, that such little beings can engineer such enormous creations.
