Mashallah, i have noticed that in this forum there are lot of somali ppl. Im somali sister, too (suprise :D ) and i would like to get to know you, insha Allah. And at the same time learn the somali language with you. I know it is much easier to write english but let us try to write in somali islamic threads.
I can tell you that my somali is not that good but i will try, Insha Allah.

First let me introduce myself

Walaalayaal waxaan ahay inan soomaaliyeed oo diinteeda jecel, isguna dayeysana iney sii barato si wanaagsan, Insha Allah. Waxaana daganahay wadan ka mid ah wadamaha scandinaivia. Waxaan wadankaas dagnaa muddo 17 sanno ah. Alxamdulillah, waxaan ka soo baxay jaamacadda waxaana halkaas ka bartay kemistiriga ( im not sure if you write that way :D ). Imikana waan shaqeeyaa. Walaalayaal waxaan niga codsanayaa inaad idunkuna sidaas isku sheegtaan haddaad rabtaan ma aha khasab, Insha Allah.

If you're writing in Somali, wouldn't it be Skaandanaviya... or something along those lines. Remember the letter 'C' is like the arabic letter: ع.

Somali is not a hard language, once you get the hang of what letters represent what sounds you'll be good in no time. I learned how to read and write in Somali on the internet in less than 6 months and you can too.

:sl: It's really basic. The hard haa, or 7 in Arabic, is the letter ''x'' and the caa, or 3 in Arabic, is the letter ''c''. Those are the ones that people are mostly confused with, the rest are the same in English.

Yeah, sis Amina 2 you spelled right, see you know how to write . Practise a lot and off course we will help you, Insha Allah. By the way dont they teach in school how to read and write in somali?. The place i live we use to have a teacher who would teach us somali all the way to high school.

:sl: Well that dialect is more Italian influenced, and I'd say the Northern dialect is more Arabic influenced, but the Somali is said to be the most pure.

Some dialects are awfully hard to understand. I know this one sister who sounds like she's speaking a different language, I can't remember where she's from though. Most of the Somali sisters can't understand her either.

Yeah the waqooyi accent is influenced a lot by Arabic, mashaAllaah. Like the word millix, for example.

But I don't mind the Italian influence, since I think Italian is a nice language.

(To Amirah) How can that be when Arabic is more coarse then Italian?

:sl: Lol naa beenaale, I coulda sworn that you're Soomaali. Be proud of your bariis-eating self. :D

The difference between Waqooyi and Xamari:

Waqooyi: ''Aryee dee walalo xiligan maxaa banaanka uu joogta! Belo!''

Xamari: ''Baabuur aan kuu haayo aboowe''

See, the difference between the two is that Xamaris sound more sweeter (probs cuz of all the macmacaan) and Waqooyi people sound more strong. ;D
