Selling Goats, Cattle Online

By Syed Azwan Syed Ali

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 (Bernama) -- His keen interest in livestock rearing and the bright future for the industry prompted former contractor Muhamad Isa Saad, 44, to change his occupation.

Starting on a part-time basis, he reared Jamnapari goats from Indonesia for eight years, but is now the proud owner of a large concern, ER System Sdn Bhd, which sells goats and cattle online.

The company has 200 Jamnapuri goats at any one time, reared in sheds on a 0.607-hectare site in Dengkil, Sepang, Selangor.

"Potential buyers need only to surf www.lembuonline.com. to buy our cattle or goats of the Jamnapari, Boer, and Anglo Nobian breed speedily.

"We sell the Kedah-Kelantan stock of cattle," Muhammad Isa, who is the company's managing director, told Bernama at the "Livestock Asia 2007" Expo and Forum held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here.

The farmer-entrepreneur from Bagan Datoh, Perak, also publishes "YourLiveStock.com", the first magazine on farming and livestock rearing in the country.

His aim in producing the magazine is to help spread the latest news on developments in the field and to provide the latest tips to rearers.

"For a start, we are printing 10,000 copies of the magazine which will be sold at RM5.50 each. The first copy will roll out this November," said the father of five children from his marriage to Rohani Abdul Aziz, 44.

He said he invested RM50,000 in his farm, including the cost of the sheds (RM30,000) when he started the project in 1999.

The Jamnapari goats are sold as stock while cattle are mostly for Hari Raya Aidiladha sacrifice.

The goats fetch between RM1,800 and RM4,000 each, and the cattle between RM1,800 and RM2,200.

"It only costs 50 sen to feed each goat in a day," he said, adding that he never looked back since he ventured into this field because he was confident of its bright future.

Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday said the government would continue to promote agriculture and had allocated RM1.73 billion for the sector next year.
