^lol...so much to do...just the words that pefectly describe me :D

yeh, i think when doing stuff like this you just mainly have to stress how keen u r, and that you are keen, hard working, determined etc etc...

basically, describe yourself as someone who the university will think that "this person will go far"

but then and again...ive never done this before...im just telling you what i would do :shade:

start by introducing a short personal story on what attracted you to pharmacy, and place that in the intro as to automatically attract the reader

follow it by a bit of your academic background,your personal interests,and hobbies, and how pharmacy school well help you cultivate those.

speak a bit of where you think pharmacy school will take you, the changing face of this career, the need for pharmacists what pharmacists do to save lives and how you'd like to be very much a part of that.

My sibling is a doctor of pharmacology and I have come to love and respect pharmacists through her, there were truly many times when she has saved lives or slaved over making compounds for infants going with their parents to tropical places, which is in and of itself an obsolete art, but an astute pharmacists isn't simply trained to by books it is a practical life long application, so just wrap all that above in some beautiful imagery of old apothecarian making concoctions for people, inject humor, add some virtue like the first medicine made by such and such pharmacist, or coco cola or the flavoring in cough syrup so children may take their meds...

and before you know it, you are on your way to become a successful pharmacist insha'Allah..

I'll be thinking of you-- best of luck dear sis-- Godspeed to you...

We had at a speaker present at my college from a prominent University last week and he told us that although you may be tempted to conform to what you think they may be interested in, he pleaded with us to at least incorpoate an element of originality in it.

Remember. They can read hundreds of Personal Statements a week, with a small percentage of places available, and yours need to be one that catches the eye.

This doesn't mean incorporating inappropriate humor (they may not share the same sense of humour), but to ensure it sounds original to you, and not copied and pasted from other websites.

Also, remember your standard of spelling and grammar can also determine whether or not you secure a place....

Good luck! :)

SORRY but do NOT start with something like 'i am writing to you to bla bla bla pharmacy bla bla'

the universities get hundreds and hundreds of these a day you want to start with something to catch their attention like 'When i was a child i had a horrible experience of travelling to a third world country and witnessed a child fall seriously ill without any possible treatment. From that day i knew that i wanted to go into pharmacy because.... bla bla bla'

1/2 - 2/3 of it should be academic (e.g work experience, why u wanna do the course, what you have done to proven your interest) and the other half or 1/3 should be personal (Your extra curricular activities, any sports teams you played in, school productions, etc.)

Hope this helps :D

Sister ~*Sofia*@, when I done my personal statement it was so hard!!! But I done it and I've sent to my teacher to add the reference!

Try looking for other uni's that do AVCE's. I've looked through loads of prospectuses and many do take on AVCE's even in pharmacy also look for other curses such as optometry or psychology or audiology, still within the medical field or even teaching!

Get really good grades or points (Idon't know what you get in AVCE's as I am doing A Levels) and do you personal statement really good, make out things that you've done as being the best.

Include the words, "keen, committed and enthusiastic" somewhere (my teachers are always on about those words for UCAS and I've used them in mine!) also if you are the 1st person in the family to pursue Higher Education then include that too as uni's are looking for that type of people along with good grades of course!

Insha'Allaah you'll get it completed but hurry as the ones who give it early are looked at first even if uni's do say they'll start looking from a particular date.

:sl: everyone,

I have finally started my personal statement.. I have posted it up.. It's not in the actual order, just random things that I have thought about what to write.. i'll put in order later on.

Wanted a bit of advice.. do you guys think it's ok???? what else can I add??? Please let me no.. :D jazaks

I have always wanted to pursue a career in healthcare from a young age. I wanted a career that would make a difference to peoples lives, a career where I could do my part and contribute to society. A career in pharmacy seemed to fit the bill perfectly.
My keen interest in both biology and chemistry has aided me to take on pharmacy as a career.

My mother is also in the healthcare profession and she has showed me that pharmacy is not only a profession but at the very frontline of healthcare and a life in science. This has fuelled my interest in the subject.

I am able to speak both Gujirati and Urdu and feel that this will help in the community pharmacy with the public whose mother-tongue is not English.

In my spare time, I enjoy reading; movies, socialising, swimming and I also enjoy the odd game of badminton. I also enjoy painting as it helps me to relieve stress.

Being a hardworking, conscientious and enthusiastic individual will help me achieve a pharmacy career. I always perform to the best of my abilities and will always try to overcome any challenges that may come my way.

Helping my younger sister with any difficulties she may be facing in her academic work brings out my helpful personality and shows that I take a keen interest in the well-being of other individuals.

I have babysat for my younger cousin many a times, and I feel that this shows that I am a responsible person who cares deeply about other individuals.

alhamduliah, you've got a pretty good start. what i suggest for you to do now, is try link your hoobies with pharmacy.
so lets say something like: not to say that poeple are like paintings, but both need great care, and co-ordination, to produce a masterpiece. By allowing your labs to be my canvas, and my skill, intelligence, and responsibitly to be your medium, i have great confidence that i will be a benfit to the community as a whole.

My knowlege and abilty in the languages of Gujirati and Urdu will become handy as i feel that this will be an aid amoungst a community whose mother-tongue is not English.
or something like that.

thats it for now, inshallah.

:sl: all,

Ive managed to do a 1st draft of the PS.. here it is

I have always wanted to pursue a career in healthcare from a young age. I wanted a career that would make a difference to peoples lives, a career where I could do my part and contribute to society. I was also interested that medicines are able to relieve suffering and cure disease. A career in pharmacy seemed to fit the bill perfectly.
My mother is also in the healthcare profession and she has showed me that pharmacy is not only a profession but at the very frontline of healthcare and a life in science. This has fuelled my interest in the subject.
The subjects that I have undertaken, both biology and chemistry has aided me to fulfil my dream and take on pharmacy as a career.
I find chemistry an exciting subject, dealing with substances and watching chemical reactions occur. I am able to carry out experiments effectively and obtain good results. I have a love for biology, the human body is just amazing.
Skills in maths are required for a career in pharmacy, and my maths skills include using numbers, fractions and percentages to solve problems and this will be beneficial in the pharmacy degree. Although I have not studied maths at A-level, I am a keen person who will strive to overcome a challenge and will always perform to the best of my abilities.
My biomedical degree has increased my knowledge upon many disciplines such as clinical biochemistry, immunology and cellular pathology. It has also provided me with the knowledge of the human body in sickness and in health along with developing my key skills and other attributes. This has significantly provided me with the basis for a career in the pharmaceutical industry. Carrying out project work in university brought out my initiative, persistence and organisational skills.
My problem solving and communication skills are excellent. I am able to communicate effectively in a variety of coursework, presentations and examinations and can apply methods and subject knowledge accurately and carefully to a given problem. This can be applied to the pharmacy degree.
Working effectively with others within a group in order to achieve a goal comes naturally to me. This probably stems from my friendly and approachable personality, and as a result can build strong relationships within a team. These skills can be valuable in this career as pharmacists work alongside a team of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and others.
My listening skills are also good and I listen attentively to what a person is saying and I show understanding towards the person. I can work well under pressure and can easily meet deadlines, as time management is one of my strongest skills.
All these skills which I have obtained over these few years will be very useful in a pharmacy career.
My passion for pharmacy prompted me to find a job within a community pharmacy. I thoroughly enjoyed working there, seeing how the local pharmacists helped people daily and what a great difference it made to the individual. The job gave me an opportunity to gain and develop many skills including team working, organisation, time management and communication skills. It entailed me to deal with customers and any consumer problems.
My helpful personality is illustrated well when I help my younger sister with her academic work as I care deeply about the well being of other individuals and this can be reflected in aspects of pharmacy.
My knowlege and abilty in the languages of Gujirati and Urdu is beneficial as I feel that this will be an aid amongst a community whose mother-tongue is not English.
In my spare time, I enjoy reading; movies, socialising, swimming and also enjoy the odd game of badminton. Painting is another pastime that I enjoy. It involves great care and co-ordination to produce, just like producing medicine in the pharmacy. By allowing your labs to be my canvas, and my skill, intelligence and responsibility to be the medium, I have great confidence that I will benefit the community as a whole. In addition, I love cooking, the way you can use various ingredients to make a beautiful dish. It can be easily compared to the art of pharmacy where different elements are used to make a medicinal compound, where if strawberry flavoured not only tastes good, but cures the ailment too!
Studying pharmacy will not only give me an opportunity to give something back to the community but will give me a rewarding career where both I and other individuals will benefit from.
What do you guys think??? is it being a bit too big headed??? Should i remove some things?? change anything?? Please let me no..I wouldn't mind any constrictive critisism either :X all views welcome!

Oh yeh, is there a certain limit as to how much u can write? mines like a page and a bit :hmm:

Jazakallah in advance :sunny:

My tutor and english teacher, very nice lady, told me to leave a line out since it might be misunderstood. It read:

With a degree in this field, I would further pursue education, studying this area at a higher level. [she said I should stop here, the rest of the sentence said: or maybe even puruse Islamic knowledge abroad, either way I will want to keep studying.

It might be seen as abit worrying, 'cos some muslims go abroad and becoming terrorists. I had a feeling that would be a problem, but I didnt think a uni would think that, subhanAllah, but I do like my english teacher.

well well well, my lady! not bad at all.:D
okay, to the point.
is it being a bit too big headed???
nah, i think its pretty good. isnt that the stuff they want to hear?
mines like a page and a bit
im not sure exaclty how long the have to be, but i think it should be about a page long-someone please correct if im wrong. they dont want to hear the story of your life, do they now.^o) lol
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
my 'constructive critisisim.' :p. ive just added and edited some of it. some of the changes are not so obvious though. i hope you dont take any offence to it. let me know if you dont get any of it.
I have always wanted to pursue a career in healthcare from a young age.
I wanted a career that would make a difference to peoples lives, a career where I could do my part and contribute to society. I was also interested that medicines are able to relieve suffering and cure disease.
Are you trying to say that you have always been interested in how medications are able relive pain, etc? its not quite clear.
to continue.....
My mother is also in the healthcare profession and therefore has showed me that pharmacy is not only a profession, but it is the very frontline of healthcare and a life in science. This has also fuelled my interest in the subject.
Biology and chemistry, the subjects that I have previously undertaken; which are also at the very head of pharmacy, have also aided me to fulfil my dream and take on pharmacy as a career.
I also have a love for biology, as I find the minute details of the functions and structures of the(or whatever it is that interests you about the human body) human body just amazing.
As knowledge and Skill in maths is required for a career in pharmacy, my keeness and determination in striving to overcome a challenge is strong, as i have not studied maths at A-level. My maths skills include using numbers, fractions and percentages to solve problems and this will be essential for a degree in pharmacy.
My biomedical degree has increased my knowledge upon many disciplines, including clinical biochemistry, immunology and cellular pathology. It has also provided me with the knowledge of how the human body functions in reaction to both sickness and health, as well as allowing me to develop key skills and other characteristics, such as……….. This has significantly provided me with the basis for a career in the pharmaceutical industry. Carrying out project work in university brought out my initiative, persistence and organizational skills.
My problem solving and communication skills are excellent. I am able to communicate effectively in a variety of coursework, presentations and examinations and can apply methods and subject knowledge accurately and carefully to a given problem. This can be applied to the pharmacy degree.
This stems from my friendly and approachable personality, and as a result can build strong relationships within a team. These skills can be valuable in this career as pharmacists work alongside a team of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and others.
Such skills were also demonstrated when my passion for pharmacy prompted me to find a job within a community pharmacy. The job gave me an opportunity to gain and develop many skills including group dynamics, organisation, time management and communication skills. It entailed me to deal with customers and any consumer problems. By working in such an environment, I was able to put my good listening skills into practice as/when it was required for me listen attentively to a customers health needs and show understanding towards them. Helping my younger sister with any difficulties she may be facing in her academic work brings out my helpful personality and shows that I take a keen interest in the well-being of other individuals. I thoroughly enjoyed working in such an environment as it also gave me the oopurtunity to see how the local pharmacists helped people daily and what a great difference it made to the individual.
I may change a few bits though and inshallah make it a bit better. I found out the word limit, it's 4,000 characters long, and im like a couple hundred over :lol:
It's gonna take me a while to make it shorter!
lol. nice one
masha'Allah sis your personal statement is excellent!
I'd just like to add, maybe you'd like to reword this bit:
My knowlege and abilty in the languages of Gujirati and Urdu is beneficial as I feel that this will be an aid amongst a community whose mother-tongue is not English.
to
My knowledge and ability to speak (?) in the languages of Gujarati and Urdu is beneficial as I feel that this will be an aid amongst a community whose mother-tongue is not English.
or
My bilingual skills of being able to fluently speak languages such as, Urdu and Gujarati, will prove to be beneficial for me when working amongst a community whose mother tongue is not English.
you can totally disregard the above if you want to and continue with using what you've got, its up to you :thumbs_up
somethings to note/remember:
please remember to spell check as funny as that sounds, you must make sure that your sentences make sense and all spellings are used appropriately, Word's spell check will only help you rectify spelling mistakes of any word, rather than help you regonise whether the wording and order of words is correct or not. Its important you read and re-read over it encase you have missed something out.
Make sure that you've got no more than 47 lines and that you're within the character limit as its hard cutting things out when you're happy with all that you've mentioned. If you think you've gone a little over than 47 then don't worry when you enter it into the personal statement field of your UCAS application, it'll automatically reduce the size to 10, which will reduce a number of lines.
But please make sure you write out your personal statement in size 12 font , any smaller and this will be further reduced when you submit it into the UCAS application form! not everyone is comfortable with reading tiny writing especially when they will have to read over millions of other applications alongside yours!
These things may seem minor but are very important, as it is the little things which count. If you've done all this, then all you have to do is make sure your content is impressive (which yours is btw, masha'Allah) and it'll definitely shine!
From what I know pharmacy is very competitive and demanding so I really hope you get the grades you work so hard for sister! and may Allah bless you with the success you desire. Aameen!
Salam sis Umm Salamah :)
Jazakhallah for ur feedback :) and ur advice, jazakhallah loads!
I will use this one:
My bilingual skills of being able to fluently speak languages such as, Urdu and Gujarati, will prove to be beneficial for me when working amongst a community whose mother tongue is not English.
sounds much better than mine ;D
^yeh, im already way above my actual word-limit.. :hmm: i need to cut it down now, but i really don't know what bits to cut out! It just seems to be getting longer and longer :lol:
make sure your content is impressive (which yours is btw, masha'Allah) and it'll definitely shine!
awwwww jazakhallah sister, ur sooo sweet :D
And jazakhallah for ur sweet du'a too, means alot to me :sunny:
:sl: everyone..
Here is my final draft of the personal statement.. (Finalllly I know..it's bin :exhausted but alhamdulillah ive got there) ;D
More advice is welcome, but I wanna see what all you guys think of it first :D I really hope it's ok and I will get a place in one of the unis inshallah . I've got the exact word limit, took me aaages to get rid of sum of the stuff, hpe it's stil just as good tho :-\
From a young age,I have enjoyed reading & swimming.Painting is another hobby which involves great care,attention to detail,a deal of concentration & satisfaction in having a final product I can be proud of.Just like the great care,coordination & attention to detail exercised in pharmacology.I've always wanted to pursue a career in healthcare.I wanted a career that would make a difference to peoples lives,a career where I could do my part and contribute to society.It wasn't until I nurtured these crafts that my love for pharmacology became apparent & I knew this was the perfect career for me.
My mother,also in the healthcare profession,has showed me that pharmacy is not only a profession but at the very frontline of healthcare & a life in science.This has fuelled my interest in pharmacy.
The subjects that I have taken,biology & chemistry have aided me to fulfil my dream & take on pharmacy as a career.I find chemistry an exciting subject,dealing with substances and watching chemical reactions occur.I can carry out experiments effectively & obtain good results.I have great passion for biology,the human body is amazing.Skills in maths is required for a career in pharmacy.My maths skills include using numbers,fractions & percentages to solve problems.Although I have not studied maths at A-level,I am a keen person who will strive to overcome a challenge & will always perform to the best of my abilities.
My biomedical degree has increased my knowledge upon many disciplines such as clinical biochemistry, immunology & cellular pathology.It has provided me with the knowledge of the human body in sickness and health along with developing key skills & other attributes.This has significantly provided me with the basis for a career in the pharmaceutical industry.Carrying out project work in university has brought out my initiative,persistence & organisational skills & I have great confidence that I will benefit the community.
My problem solving and communication skills are excellent.I can communicate effectively & can apply methods & subject knowledge accurately & carefully to a given problem.This can be applied to the pharmacy degree.
Working effectively with others within a group naturally to me.This probably stems from my friendly and approachable personality & as a result I can build strong relationships within a team.These skills can be valuable in this career as pharmacists work alongside a team of doctors,nurses & physiotherapists.My listening skills are good,I listen attentively to what a person is saying and show understanding towards them,a skill which is required as a pharmacist as they need to listen to patient issues.I can work well under pressure and can easily meet deadlines.
My passion for pharmacy prompted me to find a job within a community pharmacy at a local Tesco store.I enjoyed working here,observing local pharmacists helping people daily and what a great difference it made to them.The job gave me an opportunity to gain and develop many skills such as team work,organisation & communication skills.It entailed me to deal with customers and consumer problems.Together,these skills will be valuable in a pharmacy career.Although my first language is English,my bilingual skills of being able to fluently speak Urdu & Gujarati will prove to be beneficial for me when working amongst a community whose mother tongue is not English.In addition i have always enjoyed cooking from a young age the way you can use various ingredients to make a beautiful dish.It can easily be compared to the art of pharmacy where different elements are used to make a medicinal compound,where if strawberry flavoured not only tastes good,but cures the ailment too!
Your university will foster all my talents & allow me to study pharmacy which will not only give me an opportunity to give something back to the community but will give me a rewarding career where both myself and other individuals will benefit.
Well???? :coolious:
wa iyyaaki, your most welcome sis.
p.s Welcome to the forums! :D :D hope u benefit from ur stay, coz i know i've already benefitted from urs :D x
jazaak'Allahu khayran, well to tell you the truth I won't be around any where else of the forum, just joined to see if I could help you. I know how difficult it is to complete this, as I myself have struggled with it and just finished recently..Alhamdulillah I'm happy that I could assist you even a little..
once again here's a little more help..tis up to you whether you disregard it or not sis:
From a young ageSis its a really good idea if you start off with some how mentioning the degree you're applying for, so that the application readers can be informed of your chioce from the very beginning rather than having to figure it out themselves. You may feel you're being explicit which is unnecessary as they are already aware of your subject chioce, however mentioning it in your personal statement is better, so that even you can have a systematic structure to your statement??,I have enjoyed reading & (try not to use these, its better if you actually use the word 'and') swimming. Painting is another hobby which involves great care,attention to detail,a deal of concentration & satisfaction in having a final product I can be proud of. Just like the great care,coordination & attention (you've mentioned these descriptions twice, maybe you could re arrange the sentence to say all those things without repeating the same words again? that way you can add other words you may have missed out??) to detail exercised in pharmacology. (btw, masha'Allah i love this point though) I've always wanted to pursue a career in healthcare. I wanted (here maybe you could say 'I WANT' rather than 'WANTED' as it seems like it was something you've wanted, and don't anymore as its in the past tense?? try not to say things about your future aspirations using the past, rather 'presently' or 'want to' 'will' etc..??) a career that would make a difference to peoples lives,a career where I could do my part and contribute to society. It wasn't until I nurtured these crafts that my love for pharmacology became apparent & I knew this was the perfect career for me. (masha'Allah)
My mother,also in the healthcare profession,has showed me that pharmacy is not only a profession but at the very frontline of healthcare & a life in science.This has fuelled my interest in pharmacy.
The subjects that I have taken,biology & chemistry have aided me to fulfil my dream & take on pharmacy as a career. (think about rewording this sentence, maybe something like: "The subjects that I have taken,biology ...have contributed in the fulfillment of my dream and further increased my interest to take on a career in pharmacy." (???))
I find chemistry an exciting subject,dealing with substances and watching chemical reactions occur.I can carry out experiments effectively & obtain good results.I have great passion for biology,the human body is amazing.Skills in maths is required for a career in pharmacy.My maths skills include using numbers,fractions & percentages to solve problems.Although I have not studied maths at A-level,I am a keen person who will strive to overcome a challenge & will always perform to the best of my abilities.
My problem solving and communication skills are excellent.I can communicate effectively & can apply methods & subject knowledge accurately & carefully to a given problem.This can be applied to the pharmacy degree.
Working effectively with others within a group naturally to me. (maybe re read this sentence? it seems like you've missed a word out? or its just incomplete?)This probably stems from my friendly and approachable personality & as a result I can build strong relationships within a team.These skills can be valuable in this career as pharmacists work alongside a team of doctors,nurses & physiotherapists.My listening skills are good,I listen attentively to what a person is saying and show understanding towards them,a skill which is required as a pharmacist as they need to listen to patient issues.I can work well under pressure and can easily meet deadlines.
:sl: sis Umm salamah :)
Jazakhallah again for all ur advice :D it reallly is appreciated :D
Regarding the begining of the statement, another LI member thought of this beginning for me and i loved it :lol: but my brother also said the same thing, that I shouldn't start it off this way. I thought maybe it would be a unique beginning which would catch their eye... :hmm: did u find that this beginning grabbed ur attention than the 1st beginning I did or not :?:?
maybe i'll change it then but still use it within the statement...
The reason I used a lot of ---> & is coz I reallly ran out of space :lol: I was wayyyyy above my word limit and had to cut it down... the only things I could thing of to get rid of was the many 'and's lol and even then I had to change a few sentences around in order to use less letters ;D
you've mentioned these descriptions twice, maybe you could re arrange the sentence to say all those things without repeating the same words again? that way you can add other words you may have missed out??)
^ yeh i'll do that sis, jazakallah. :D
(btw, masha'Allah i love this point though)
^ Jazakahallh sister, but the merit shud really go to sister PurestAmbrosia :D she thought of this point, and I also loved the point :D that sis is realllllly talented mashallah *wub*
(maybe re read this sentence? it seems like you've missed a word out? or its just incomplete?)
^ ;D yup I accidently missed out a word :X jazakhallah for pointing it out sis, i really didn't realise.. really does pay to get ur work checked by another person doesn't it? :lol
:w:, well masha'Allah sis, what you've used is wicked! not saying its inappropriate or anything, but as its advisable that you mention the subject your applying for from the beginning so that the university people who read it lol know from the very beginning of your statement.
Its better to do so, rather than letting it be all up to the reader to guess which subject you're applying for even though you may have mentioned it later on in your statement. Just saying it explicitly in the beginning will make it easier for them and yourself, as that way you know that they won't remain confused rather , clear and well aware of your subject chioce as well as the nature and content, throughout reading the entire statement...if that makes sense?? so insha'Allah sis I would say, maybe try including at least one sentence stating what the subject is?? like I said in mine:
'My Passion to study so and so was initiated through..' or 'has been' they're just ideas sis, again its up to you how you state that sis :thumbs_up
The reason I used a lot of ---> & is coz I reallly ran out of space :lol: I was wayyyyy above my word limit and had to cut it down... the only things I could thing of to get rid of was the many 'and's lol and even then I had to change a few sentences around in order to use less letters ;D
lol ok sis but insha'Allah try changing them as its better if you don't use them, formality and presentation wise...
^ yeh i'll do that sis, jazakallah. :D
Salam,
Well I got an interview in one of the uni's to which I applied.. it's like 2 hours away from home, the only negative thing about it. Im havin second thoughts now about going to study pharmacy. the uni i want to get in doesn't take AVCE which i have and that's the only uni closer to home. I don't wanna move out and stay at campus..so im really confused now :(
I wanna do pharmacy more now than ever, but the distances of all the uni's are depressing. and I've got so many more worries in my head bout the tuition fees etc im just wondering if i should even bother.
Im so down at the moment, Im just praying so hard that I get into the uni closer to home (and which doesn't accept AVCE)..the more i think about it..the more distant it seems.
Please bros n sisters keep me in ur du'as. jazakhallah
Salam brother,
^ im currently in university studying biomedical science. My interview is on wednesday.. im not sure if i'll be going into further education after all.. i found out that i won't be able to pay the tuition fees as the goverment only pays for one undergraduate degree (which im already doing!)
So I don't really know whats going to happen now. I might just end up taking a gap year, and try n decide in that time what my next step will be. I'm actually thinking of going into teaching now.. lol i know it's completely different from pharmacy, but now to tell u the truth i dnt think pharmacy is for me.. I just have to tell my parents n sister now, which i still haven't done so as im quite scared of their reaction to my change of plan. Please pray for me :(
Im a lost soul I know.. :(
Neway jazakhallah for offering to help brother.. may Allah (swt) reward you.
Sis. There ARE grants and loans available for students like yourself.
I'm sure the uni will have 'hardship grants' available.
They WILL help you , knowing that the fees is actually completely putting you off uni. Trust me.Theres so much help for people to actually pursue higher education. MashaAllah Alhamdulilah.
Ask around. Don't give up..:)
Who told you that sis???
If i was you, thoroughly research the issue of finances by ringing up students loan company and the university before you decide on pulling out. For now though, go to the interview anyhow that way you know you tried atleast and you wouldnt be letting go of such an opportunity that others would dream of lol.
As i said, if you decide to attend it let moi know....ill go over some pointers with you inshaAllah.
Salam,
^ I made my decision.. and I have decided not to go into pharmacy after all.. i know after alllll that! lol I know it's a huge change in plan in sucha short space of time, but i feel so much lighter after making that decision :D I only told my family y'day.. gosh it took all my courage to do so! Normally, i would have burst into tears after tellin em.. coz i know i would have dissapointed them, but i was so strong! lol and i didn't end up cryin :)
Surprisingly, they all agreed that I would make a wiked teacher..and that I am great at teachin things to people (like my little sister)... so i have decided to do a tecahing course instead..only takes a year to do and im actually excited about it :D :D
My mum was a bit angry though..i think purely for the fact that i left it so late to tell them..and applied for pharmacy when I didn't want to in the first place :( the thing is i actually did want to do it..but there were just so many things that were putting me off from doing so...am glad I chose to forget bout it..i feel much happier..subhanallah :)
Neway im rattling on.. jazakhallah brother for offering to help with the interview it was so much appreciated..just the fact that u offered to help a sis out (it was only a uni policy thing to interview anyone who applied for pharm anyway).
also jazakhallah to the other brothers and sisters who helped me out.. for the personal statement and everything.. May Allah (swt) reward you for all your kind efforts :)
*smiling and feeling very happy*
Are you doing biomed?
With all due respect, Medical sales is a load of wack and at the time the industry and job prospects on a decline. Your basically having to go sell yourself by resorting to silly stuff and having people laughing behind ya back etc.
If you are doing biomed, look into the regulating society for that profession, do a portfolio thing bit like a pre-reg and inshaAllah youll find a nice job in a hospital setting.
Salams,
Round 2 lol please bros n sisters let me no what u guys think of this teaching PS. Any critism also welcome :)
Jazakhallah
“I want to be a scientist” was the response I received when I asked my younger cousin what he wanted to be when he was older. I was surprised that it was completely different to what other boys his age would say, such as a pilot, car racer or lawyer. He seemed so excited about science and showed great enthusiasm for the subject. That was the point in my life when I decided on teaching children at KS1 and KS2 as a career. I want to help children achieve their future aspirations by teaching them to use their strengths to their advantage and overcome their weaknesses. I believe that I have the skills and the ability to make a great teacher.
I have a helpful personality. I am always helping my younger sister with her schoolwork when she is facing any difficulties. This will be a valuable characteristic within a classroom. I know that I would feel great satisfaction in knowing that I helped a child to overcome a challenge. I want to teach children that they can defeat any obstacles in their way if they are determined.
With a career in teaching, I know that no two days will be the same. Children are very curious and are constantly asking questions and working with them will be an exciting challenge. Learning should be fun and I want to fuel their interest in all the subjects via fun as well as productive activities.
I have excellent time management and organisational skills. I can meet any given deadlines and I am punctual. These skills that I have acquired over the past few years are all essential in the teaching profession.
Carrying out presentations at university has given me the confidence to communicate fluently and effectively to an audience. My problem solving and communication skills are excellent. I can communicate effectively in a variety of coursework, presentations and examinations and can apply methods and subject knowledge accurately and carefully to a given problem. Working effectively with others within a group in order to achieve a goal comes naturally to me. This probably stems from my friendly and approachable personality, and as a result can build strong relationships within a team. This will allow me to develop positive relationships with other adults, professionals and children.
I have excellent listening skills; I listen attentively to what a person is saying and show understanding towards them. A skill that is very important as a teacher as they need to listen to the children and relate to them. I am able to demonstrate good ICT skills effectively too. I am good at most subjects taught within the national curriculum, with science and English being my strongest.
In my spare time I enjoy reading a wide variety of books, socialising, listening to music and I am a great fan of movies. Gujarati is my mother tongue, and I am able to speak it fluently, this will enable me to assist children whose first language is not English.
Though I don’t currently have any experience working with children, I am currently searching for work experience within a local school and hope to find one soon.
I believe that every child is different and has various needs. Your course will enable me to develop my knowledge, skills and understanding of what it takes to be a good teacher. I am looking forward to engaging in the practical as well as the theoretical side of the teaching course. Children are the future and I want to contribute in making it a bright one.
I think your university, with all it provides, will foster all my talents and allow me to become an effective teacher which will not only give me an opportunity to give something back to the community but will give me a rewarding career where both myself and other individuals will benefit.
MashaAllah its good.
I would advise you do some work revolving around children with special needs and that would go down fantastically in your personal statement. Obviously all children are diff but im sure there are very few who mention kids with special needs such as autism down on PS. If you put this down it shows you have worked around and managed to effectively carry out work with children of all kind.
Also where you list your key skills note examples down of where you have portrayed these skills as opposed to just listing them. Dont refer to the Uni as "your university" Just put summat like i believe i would be a great asset to the Uni not only on the educational front but by also contributing to other society's at the Uni etc.
Salam bro,
^ Jazakhallah for the advice, may Allah (swt) reward you. All the uni's are asking for like 5-10 days work experiance at a mainstream school... i don't currently have that..so im gonna have to somehow get some along with juggling my last year of uni *gulp* I so don't know how im gonna manage, but inshallah i'll be fine
I still aint completed the application, im still considering universities.. it's so hard coz im only allowed to put 2 choices down! that's not so good, coz it limits your options big time!
But inshallah by the end of this week, i should have posted it off.. keep me in your duas.
To all other bros n sisters.. anymore advice on the personal statement. I know we've been here before with me lol but it is appreciated :D
Jazakhallah in advance
After having read your personal statement again sis, I would advise that you put something down as being able to work under pressure and handle heavy workload. As the course for teaching is supposedly very demanding in the sense of workload. Your evidence for this could be that you are in the final year of a undergraduate course and hence you are used to heavy workload. With personal statements etc the main thing is the use of "buzz words" and evidence based examples and standing out from other applicant by not writing the same stuff down lol. Google personal statements ONLY to get jist of what the main buzz words are and apply it to yourself.
Also i strongly suggest you do work experience, even if its one morning or afternoon at a school once or twice a week. Do community service work or work with special needs children i.e. children with autism etc. Also if you have ever taught any children madressah work i.e. Quran etc then put it down! :D
Salams,
Yeh I know the deadline is gone.. but people doing a PGCE course can also be considered as late as May, as long as the uni's have a place. Most unis still have vacancies alhamdulillah.. so im jus giving it a shot and gonna see what happens. Plus there's clearing too.. so inshallah everything is gonna go ok :) If i don't get a place, it's Allah's will and im still sure evrything will be fine :D
