Recently, I have been interested in learning more about the Islam community.

I first began to get interested in the religion a few months ago and have not been able to find anyone locally to discuss matters with.

hey there-thanks for the replies.

i have been studying islam on my own through media-tv,books,online and at this point i dont have any questions, but i think my main issue with getting involved in islam is that i dont have many muslims in my area and i want to know how can i find some locally?

I notice you are in the Maryland area. There are actually a large number of Muslims in the area. You probably see many daily and do not even realize they are Muslim. Islam is a religion and not a nationality or ethnicity. I do not look any different than any other old Texas Cowboy.

Here is a listing of some of the major Islamic centers in Maryland along with their phone numbers. Feel free to call any one of them and let them know you would like to visit a mosque. I am certain they will be very happen to tell you where the closest one to you is. It may be closer than you expect.

earlier today i emailed the Islamic Community Center of Laurel and am just waiting for a reply.
i wanted to ask, are visitors welcome there? are they generally open to others?
