Does it really take a second per strike? Think about the intervals between the strikes...

hola
it is time, you can't count in numbers you have to count in intervals... (like how even though this is 2008, there have not been 2008 years since the birth of Christ... there have been 2007 years and 3 days).
it's 2 intervals for every 3 seconds so if you do the ratio it is 1.5 times the number of strikes you want to get to (7) minus one since it's an internval gives you 1.5(6) = 9.
watch out when you check it... don't forget to take into account that you start off with three... you do not start
at three, otherwise you think you need a much higher number (18). that totally threw me off the first time and i chaned my answer... but it's wrong.
