The influx of Porn into the USA did come primarily from outside sources. It is fairly new, at least within my life time. Nearly everything I see today has come about since I was a child.
I can recall as a kid the movies "Gone with the Wind" was considered obscene because Clark Gable used the word "D.a.m.n." in it. Many people refused to see it because of that. the movie theater in my home town was boycotted because it chose to show it.
When I was a teenager, little books, referred to as "8 page bibles" began circulating. They were illegal and were brought into the USA by GIs returning home after WWII Although they were graphic, they did not portray actual pictures, they were basicaly poorly drawn sketches.
Playboy magazine first appeared in 1958 I believe. It was the first magazine to show an actual photograph of a partialy nude female (Marilyn Monroe) the photograph was very mild and did not really show much of anything. The fantasy was more in the imagination of the viewer.
But, until this time the majority of, if not all porn, was illegal and illegaly brought into the country.
After that it progressed rapidly until it reached the point it is today.
My conclusion is that while America has gained the reputation of being a nation of porn, it did not originate here and Americas are as much a victim of it as an Eastern Nation is.
The culprit is not America, it is the porn industry which now has roots in every nation.
