Allah has warned us over and over again about following our desires. Allah has used very graphic/vivid descriptions of those of us who choose to corrupt our lives by walking over the line. We are warned about the punishments on this earth and in the hereafter for indulging in these "risky acts" that lead us into darkness.

By immersing ourselves into forbidden actions we can risk becoming deaf, dumb and blind even with all of our facilities in place. Thus the studies show that gambling is very dangerous for our spiritual well being."(You are one of the Messengers) so that you may warn a people whose fathers were not warned and who are therefore unaware." (Holy Qur'an, 36:6)

"On the Day when those disbelievers are exposed to the Fire: 'You dissipated the good things you had in your worldly life and enjoyed yourself in it. So today you are being repaid with the punishment of humiliation for being arrogant in the earth without any right and for being deviators.'" (Holy Qur'an, 46: 20)
