mashAllah very nice thread sister, we all need brushing up our Quran every once and a while....

the three types are....

1- Nafs Amara (the self that always urges to do bad acts)

2- Nafs Lawama (the self that reproaches)

3- Nafs motmaina (the self that is calm)

I believe its my turn :D...

ok...Out of the Qurans 6000+ ayahs there is only one that ends with the letter "Dhad" which one is it?...and oh yeah Abu GG ur not allowed to answer this question ;)

Indeed.. most ppl call that Suurah Surat al Lahaab..

e.g most ppl call Suraat Al Nabaa' as Suraat Amaah..

I think ppl memorise the Suraahz by the beginning of the Suraah..

Here ,,,Surah Al-Lahab

تَبَّتْ يَدَا أَبِي لَهَبٍ وَتَبَّ

O ye who believe! When ye rise up for prayer , wash your face , and your hands up to the elbows , and lightly rub your heads and ( wash ) your feet up to the ankles . And if ye are unclean , purify yourselves . And if ye are sick or on a journey , or one of you cometh from the closet , or ye have had contact with women , and ye find not water , then go to clean , high ground and rub your faces and your hands with some of it . Allah would not place a burden on you , but He would purify you and would perfect His grace upon you , that ye may give thanks .

There is a surah in the Qurun in which the word "ALLAH" is mentioned at least once in every single ayah (verse), and in one ayah this word is found 5 times! Which surah is it?

Br. Zak, is it this Ayah:

"O ye who believe! Approach not prayers with a mind befogged, until ye can understand all that ye say,- nor in a state of ceremonial impurity (Except when travelling on the road), until after washing your whole body. If ye are ill, or on a journey, or one of you cometh from offices of nature, or ye have been in contact with women, and ye find no water, then take for yourselves clean sand or earth, and rub therewith your faces and hands. For Allah doth blot out sins and forgive again and again."

Sorry, didn't get a grip of the question!

Br., Could you clarify to me one more thing before I make another dumb mistake!

Quote (Br. Zak):

"One ayah in qur'an which has some amar[order] in it, but was later cancelled[only the order was cancelled, not tht the ayah was mansookh] by Allah[swt] wid the next following ayah."

So, do you want the Ayah that was cancelled by the next one, or the Ayah that cancelled it itself?

And, "the next following ayah", you mean the Ayah that comes next in sequence in the Surah, eg If it is Ayah 24, it becomes Ayah 25, and NOT the next Ayah in terms of revelation.

Let's see...

O you who believe! when you consult the Apostle, then offer something in charity before your consultation; that is better for you and purer; but if you do not find, then surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

If you will not aid him, Allah certainly aided him when those who disbelieved expelled him, he being the second of the two, when they were both in the cave, when he said to his companion: Grieve not, surely Allah is with us. So Allah sent down His tranquillity upon him and strengthened him with hosts which you did not see, and made lowest the word of those who disbelieved; and the word of Allah, that is the highest; and Allah is Mighty, Wise.

The phrase “QatalahumulAllah” which literally translates into “may Allah Fight them!” but in truth is just a figure of speech of the arabs, a really strong curse that Allah only uses twice in the Quran. Which are the two places?

وَقَالَتِ الْيَهُودُ عُزَيْرٌ ابْنُ اللّهِ وَقَالَتْ النَّصَارَى الْمَسِيحُ ابْنُ اللّهِ ذَلِكَ قَوْلُهُم بِأَفْوَاهِهِمْ يُضَاهِؤُونَ قَوْلَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ مِن قَبْلُ قَاتَلَهُمُ اللّهُ أَنَّى يُؤْفَكُونَ

9:30 The Jews call 'Uzair a son of Allah, and the Christians call Christ the son of Allah. That is a saying from their mouth; (in this) they but imitate what the unbelievers of old used to say. Allah's curse be on them: how they are deluded away from the Truth!

aaand!

وَإِن يَقُولُوا تَسْمَعْ لِقَوْلِهِمْ كَأَنَّهُمْ خُشُبٌ مُّسَنَّدَةٌ يَحْسَبُونَ كُلَّ صَيْحَةٍ عَلَيْهِمْ هُمُ الْعَدُوُّ فَاحْذَرْهُمْ قَاتَلَهُمُ اللَّهُ أَنَّى يُؤْفَكُونَ

63:4 When thou lookest at them, their exteriors please thee; and when they speak, thou listenest to their words. They are as (worthless as hollow) pieces of timber propped up, (unable to stand on their own). They think that every cry is against them. They are the enemies; so beware of them. The curse of Allah be on them! How are they deluded (away from the Truth)!

Do I get points now?! ;D

Where does word "Allah" repeats itself twice sucessively ?

Surah: Al-An'am

When there comes to them a sign (from Allah), They say: "We shall not believe until we receive one (exactly) like those received by Allah's apostles." Allah knoweth best where (and how) to carry out His mission. Soon will the wicked be overtaken by humiliation before Allah, and a severe punishment, for all their plots.

Forbidden to you is that which dies of itself, and blood, and flesh of swine, and that on which any other name than that of Allah has been invoked, and the strangled (animal) and that beaten to death, and that killed by a fall and that killed by being smitten with the horn, and that which wild beasts have eaten, except what you slaughter, and what is sacrificed on stones set up (for idols) and that you divide by the arrows; that is a transgression. This day have those who disbelieve despaired of your religion, so fear them not, and fear Me. This day have I perfected for you your religion and completed My favor on you and chosen for you Islam as a religion; but whoever is compelled by hunger, not inclining willfully to sin, then surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

surah maida ayah 3

ok are ppl ready for a bit more difficult question? ;)

Wow, that's a great question, Br. Khaldun!

I memorized this verse, and when you asked the question I remembered it, but I had never thought about the fact that its reversed like that.

34:2 He knows all that goes into the earth, and all that comes out thereof; all that comes down from the sky and all that ascends thereto and He is the Most Merciful, the Oft-Forgiving.

SubhanAllah. How do you think of these things, by the way? You must be a very observant Hafiz! :)

Let's talk about word repititions.

i discoverted a very interesting fact before.

How many times does the word "Ar-Rahman" appear in the Qur'an?
Try it with the Bismillahs and then without.

I may have counted wrong, so I want to see how other people counted it up. Your answer is close to what I got.

Maybe I'll list the verses, and we can see if there are any we missed.

Amani,
Okay, I just checked the list. That's what I've got too.

Now if you don't include ANY bismillah beginning (so just subtract the first verse of Al-fatiha), then how many times does it appear in the Qur'an? i.e. Just count up the verses

This was a word repitition I counted myself. I think there are probably thousands of other characterisitcs of the Qur'an like this that we just have to discover.

Here are some that have already been found:
WORD REPETITIONS IN THE QUR'AN

Apart from the miraculous characteristics of the Qur'an which we have looked into so far, it also contains what we can term "mathematical miracles." There are many examples of this fascinating Qur'anic aspect. One example of this is the number of repetitions of certain words in the Qur'an. Some related words are surprisingly repeated the same number of times. Below is a list of such words and the number of repetitions in the Qur'an.

The statement of "seven heavens" is repeated seven times. "The creation of the heavens (khalq as-samawat)" is also repeated seven times.

"Day (yawm)" is repeated 365 times in singular form, while its plural and dual forms "days (ayyam and yawmayn)" together are repeated 30 times. The number of repetitions of the word "month" (shahar) is 12.

The number of repetitions of the words "plant" and "tree" is the same: 26

The word "payment or reward" is repeated 117 times, while the expression "forgiveness" (mughfirah), which is one of the basic morals of the Qur'an, is repeated exactly twice that amount, 234 times.

When we count the word "Say," we find it appears 332 times. We arrive at the same figure when we count the phrase "they said."

The number of times the words, "world" (dunya) and "hereafter" (akhira) are repeated is also the same: 115

The word "satan" (shaitan) is used in the Qur'an 88 times, as is the word "angels" (malaika).

The word faith (iman) (without genitive) is repeated 25 times throughout the Qur'an as is also the word infidelity (kufr).

The words "paradise" and "hell" are each repeated 77 times.

The word "zakah" is repeated in the Qur'an 32 times and the number of repetitions of the word "blessing" (barakah) is also 32.

The expression "the righteous" (al-abraar) is used 6 times but "the wicked" (al-fujjaar) is used half as much, i.e., 3 times.

The number of times the words "Summer-hot" and "winter-cold" are repeated is the same: 5.

The words "wine" (khamr) and "intoxication" (saqara) are repeated in the Qur'an the same number of times: 6

The number of appearances of the words "mind" and "light" is the same: 49.

The words "tongue" and "sermon" are both repeated 25 times.

The words "benefit" and "corrupt" both appear 50 times.

"Reward" (ajr) and "action" (fail) are both repeated 107 times.

"Love" (al-mahabbah) and "obedience" (al-ta'ah) also appear the same number of times: 83

The words "refuge" (maseer) and "for ever" (abadan) appear the same number of times in the Qur'an: 28.

The words "disaster" (al-musibah) and "thanks" (al-shukr) appear the same number of times in the Qur'an: 75.

"Sun" (shams) and "light" (nur) both appear 33 times in the Qur'an.

In counting the word "light" only the simple forms of the word were included.

The number of appearances of "right guidance" (al-huda) and "mercy" (al-rahma) is the same: 79

The words "trouble" and "peace" are both repeated 13 times in the Qur'an.

The words "man" and "woman" are also employed equally: 23 times.

The number of times the words "man" and "woman" are repeated in the Qur'an, 23, is at the same time that of the chromosomes from the egg and sperm in the formation of the human embryo. The total number of human chromosomes is 46; 23 each from the mother and father.

"Treachery" (khiyanah) is repeated 16 times, while the number of repetitions of the word "foul" (khabith) is 16.

"Human being" is used 65 times: the sum of the number of references to the stages of man's creation is the same: i.e.

Human being 65

Soil (turab) 17

Drop of Sperm (nutfah) 12

Embryo ('alaq) 6

A half formed lump of flesh (mudghah) 3

Bone ('idham) 15

Flesh (lahm) 12

TOTAL 65

The word "salawat" appear five times in the Qur'an, and Allah has commanded man to perform the prayer (salat) five times a day.

The word "land" appears 13 times in the Qur'an and the word "sea" 32 times, giving a total of 45 references. If we divide that number by that of the number of references to the land we arrive at the figure 28.888888888889%. The number of total references to land and sea, 45, divided by the number of references to the sea in the Qur'an, 32, is 71.111111111111%. Extraordinarily, these figures represent the exact proportions of land and sea on the Earth today.
