Top Muslim leaders in Jerusalem says that the so-called "Museum of Tolerance" is being built on a Muslim cemetery.

Sheikh Ra’ad Salah, the head of the Islamic Movement Northern Branch, called on Islamic states to do their best to stop the building of the museum, saying that construction work there desecrated Muslim graves.

His comments came two months after California Governor and former movie star Arnold Schwarzenegger unveiled the cornerstone of the so-called Museum of Tolerance.

"What sort of tolerance will there be here, and what sort of human dignity, if they are trampling upon Muslim graves?" Sheikh Salah asked during a joint press conference with Jerusalem's Mufti, Ikrema Sabri.

"We have the registration records. It's a 200 dunam plot and building the Museum of Tolerance here is a joke," Sheikh Salah said. "There is an Islamic law forbidding a change in the land designation of cemeteries."

On the other hand, the Moriah Development company, which is responsible for the museum’s construction, claims that it is acting “in accordance with the law and in full cooperation with the Antiquities Department and Ministry of Religious Affairs.”
