    treaty with the najran christians

    Report bad ads?

    asalaammu alaikum

ok so a solid muslim bro gave me this link to an article detailing the history and outcome of the najran christians and reasons why they were as much of a factor to actually sign a treaty. now my intentions were as they always are to find a common ground between islam and christianity. what i found was more questions

    here is the article

go to onislam.net click on reading islam > about muhammad > his life > Prophet Muhammad Meets Najran Christian

haha i cant post links or make a custom avatar yet. win some lose some.

so in this artilce i am not clear if the najran christians were coming to visit the new military power in the area or if they intended on an agreed treaty as purpose of the sent delegation. secondly i have heard of a phrase "spreading islam by the sword". so a peace treaty is drawn up with an agreed amount of money to be paid to madinah and then years later a military commander is set upon the najran people with terms of accpet islam or die. thirdly the quranic revelation :

“Jesus, in God’s view, is the same as Adam, whom He had created from dust and said to him: ‘Be’, and he was there. This is the truth from your Lord. Be not, therefore, one of the doubters. Should anyone argue with you about him after what has been given to you of true knowledge, say to them: let us call in our children and your children, our women and your women, and ourselves and yourselves. Let us then all pray God and ask that God’s curse overwhelm the liars.” (Al-Imran 3: 59-61)

would this verse deny mary the mother of jesus's pregnancy ? adam had no mother. and this is saying jesus was created from the dust. now bear in mind this is not taken from any other website then muslims wrighting for muslims so if there is an expansion of this revelation that should have been better explained then it is the fault of the author not the fault of the poster (me).

finally please do not misunderstand me for bringing up such a delicate matter. my only intention is to learn and understand more from good people who know much much more then myself. thank you for allowing me to post on the forums and god bless all your endevours. peace.

No, it's not denying the pregnancy. Muslims believe in the miracle birth of Jesus (peace be upon him). The comparison comes from the teaching that Adam was unique in that he was created without a mother and a father. Allah said "Be" and he was. Jesus, peace be upon him, was created without a father. Allah said "Be" and he was. It stems from the argument that Christians say that Jesus (peace be upon him) must have been divine simply because he was born without a father. Adam (peace be upon him) had no mother or father.

Keep in mind that there is an entire chapter devoted to Mary in the Quran. Here is some commentary from a translation of the Quran I have in my home.:
"After a description of the high position which Jesus occupies as a prophet, we have a repudiation of the dogma that he was Allah, or the son of Allah, or anything more than a man. If it is said that he was born without a human father, Adam was also so born. Indeed Adam was born without either a human father or mother. As far as our physical bodies are concerned they are mere dust. In Allah's sight Jesus was as dust just as Adam was or humanity is. The greatness of Jesus arose from the Divine command "Be": for after that he was more than dust--a great spiritual leader and teacher."

There are many different ways to say sword in Arabic but not once will you find that word in the Quran. Though Khalid ibn Walid (RA) is referred to as the Sword of Allah. The phrase "spreading Islam by the sword" is an unfortunate misrepresentation that people who dislike Islam use to depict Muslims as awful blood thirsty conquerors forcing people to accept Islam. You cannot force the heart to accept something. Allah says in the Quran:

"There shall be no compulsion in [acceptance of] the religion. The right course has become clear from the wrong. So whoever disbelieves in Taghut and believes in Allah has grasped the most trustworthy handhold with no break in it. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing." [2:256]

There are some letters posted on this forum with the invitation to Islam for other peoples of the world. When I first came across these as a non-Muslim I thought they were a courteous way of inviting to Islam. Usually it's not like that. You can view the thread here:

There were some by Khalid ibn Walid too but I can't find the link.

No, it's not your fault. I have noticed this myself when I was searching about Islam. There are many legitimate websites out there run by Muslims but whoever writes the articles can't seem to be bothered to pick up a dictionary or at least have someone who speaks English proofread before they post it online for the world to see. Sometimes they don't understand that certain words have negative connotations that create the wrong idea in the mind of the reader.

The book they got that information from was "Muhammad: Man and Prophet" by Adil Salahi. You can pick it up on Amazon if you want to read more about it in its entirety which I highly recommend.

When I was a new member here I'd pick up books about Islam then come online and ask questions for clarification.
I got sick of learning about Islam from the internet articles because much of the information has missing pieces and is quite often horribly translated in the English language to the point where some of it does more harm than good.

I hope someone with a deeper understanding of the event can come along and answer your question more thoroughly than me. I've not been a Muslim for very long so forgive me if I didn't fully answer your question. I am still in kindergarten with Islam.
