The Turkish cultural center my family goes to often has music.....should I avoid going there, since music is haram? just today, I was there for a Turkish festival, and there was loud music playing the whole time.,,,,,,what is the ruling on this?
Re: Should one stay away from a gathering with music?
I disagree i believe that some music is haram but cultural music and nasheeds are not you do not have to stay away from the place just advise people to play nasheeds more often

Cultural music is still haraam.
Nasheeds... confusing.... --> More knowledgeable person route

Re: Should one stay away from a gathering with music?
Music is music, regardless of being cultural or otherwise. And the ruling on it is clear.
Only music allowed is one created by using daff or one sided drum. Even then the scholars of the past were clear that it was often used by women only for celebratory occasions, such as eids and weddings. Engaging in such things was not a manly thing to do. Today scholars tolerate all these nasheeds and as such so long as it does not have music in it, unless it's daff.
