Musab Ibn Umair (radi Allahu 'anhu)

    As-salamu ʿalaykum brothers and sisters,

My question is regarding the following comment I have seen on YouTube video regarding the story of Musab Ibn Umair (radi Allahu 'anhu).

''...he said the ayat that rasoolullah (pbuh) recited upon the body of musab ibn umair (RA) is from surah ahzab. but the companion was martyred at uhud. sura ahzab was revealed days after uhud during the battle of ahzab. can any brother clarify the fact if I'm mistaken or not? ofcourse I'm no scholar but I'd like to know if there's any mistake in my knowledge. Allah knows best. thankyou ''

    Walaikumus Salam

It is true that Hazrat Mus'ab bin Umair RA was martyred in Uhud. I don't know what ayah the brother is talking about, but still it could be possible that the whole Surah Ahzab was not revealed after Ghazwa Ahzab, maybe some of the verses were revealed before it. Allah knows best.

    As-salamu 'alaykum,

''Among the believers are men who have been true to what they have pledged to Allah -
    (Al- Ahzab 33:23)

I think the question of the brother is when (33:23) was recited by Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihiwasallam).

Jazakallahu khairun for your contribution towards the question!

    Allah knows best.

I found this article and it mentions that Rasulullah صلی الله عليه وسلم recited verse 33:23 of the Qur'an when Sayyiduna Mus'ab RA was martyred.

It is important to note that the Surahs of the Qur'an were revealed gradually and not all at once. Different ayats were revealed at different times and Rasulullah صلی الله عليه وسلم used to make clear as to which verse would go in which Surah. Hence the fact that Rasulullah صلی الله عليه وسلم recited this verse after the battle of Uhud corroborates that this verse was revealed before the battle of Ahzab. Allah ta'ala knows best.

Indeed the Surahs are revealed gradually and not all at once and this verse in particular must have been before the battle of Ahzab. You have answered it correctly for me and insha'Allah the next reader who might read this. Jazakallahu khairun!

If a brother or sister would like to add anything to it feel free to do so.
@bint e aisha is it ok for you if I use this article as source for the brother who originally asked the question?

    Narrated Anas
We think that the Verse: 'Among the Believers are men who have been true to their covenant with Allah.' was revealed in favor of Anas bin An-Nadir. [Sahih Bukhari Volume 6:Book 60: Hadith 306, See also: Sahih Bukhari Volume 4:Book 52: Hadith 62, Sahih Bukhari Volume 6:Book 60:Hadith 307 & Sahih Muslim Book 20:Hadith 4683]

This hadith & hadith below show that this verse was revealed right after the battle of Uhud and Allah know the best.
Also note that there is a time difference of approximately 2 years between battle of Uhud (3rd Hijri) and Battle of Trench/Ahzab (5 Hijri). Large part of Surah Ahzab was revealed during the 5th year of Hijra but some verses were revealed before that, verse 23 appears to be one of those verses.

    Narrated Anas
My uncle Anas bin An-Nadr was absent from the Battle of Badr. He said, "O Allah's Apostle! I was absent from the first battle you fought against the pagans. (By Allah) if Allah gives me a chance to fight the pagans, no doubt. Allah will see how (bravely) I will fight." On the day of Uhud when the Muslims turned their backs and fled, he said, "O Allah! I apologize to You for what these (i.e. his companions) have done, and I denounce what these (i.e. the pagans) have done." Then he advanced and Sad bin Muadh met him. He said "O Sad bin Muadh ! By the Lord of An-Nadr, Paradise! I am smelling its aroma coming from before (the mountain of) Uhud," Later on Sad said, "O Allah's Apostle! I cannot achieve or do what he (i.e. Anas bin An-Nadr) did. We found more than eighty wounds by swords and arrows on his body. We found him dead and his body was mutilated so badly that none except his sister could recognize him by his fingers." We used to think that the following Verse was revealed concerning him and other men of his sort: "Among the believers are men who have been true to their covenant with Allah.........." (33.23) His sister Ar-Rubbaya' broke a front tooth of a woman and Allah's Apostle ordered for retaliation. On that Anas (bin An-Nadr) said, "O Allah's Apostle! By Him Who has sent you with the Truth, my sister's tooth shall not be broken." Then the opponents of Anas's sister accepted the compensation and gave up the claim of retaliation. So Allah's Apostle said, "There are some people amongst Allah's slaves whose oaths are fulfilled by Allah when they take them." [Sahih Bukhari Volume 4:Book 52:Hadith 61]
