    MARIA AL-QIBTIYYA ( Wife of Prophet[S.A.W])

    Report bad ads?

Maria al-Qibtiyya (may Allah be pleased with her) is said to have
married the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and
certainly everyone gave her the same title of respect as the
Prophet's wives, 'Umm al Muminin' 'Mother of the Believers'. Maria
was born in upper Egypt of a Coptic father and Greek mother and
moved to the court of the Muqawqis when she was still very young.
She arrived in Medina to join the Prophet's household just after the
Prophet returned from the treaty with Quraish which was contracted
at al-Hudaybiyya. Maria gave birth to a healthy son in 9 AH, the
same year that his daughter Zaynab died, and the Prophet named his
new son Ibrahim, after the ancestor of both the Jews and the
Christians, the Prophet from whom all the Prophets who came after
him were descended. Unfortunately, when he was only eighteen months
old, Ibrahim became seriously ill and died. Even though he knew that
his small son would go to the Garden, the Prophet Muhammad (peace
and blessings of Allah be upon him) could not help shedding some
tears. When some of his Companions asked him why he was weeping, he
    replied, "It is my humanness."

As Ibrahim's body was being buried, the sun was eclipsed and it grew
dark and gloomy. Some people thought this was connected with
Ibrahim's death, but the Prophet soon clarified this. "The sun and
the moon are two of Allah's signs," he said, "they are not eclipsed
because of anyone's birth or death. When you see these signs, make
haste to remember Allah in prayer." Although the kafirun used to
mock the Prophet Muhammad because he had no sons, and say that he
was 'cut off' , Allah made it clear in the following surah that the
    station of the Prophet Muhammad was far above that of any other man;

In the name of Allah, The Merciful, the Compassionate: Surely We
have given you AL Khawthar, so pray to your Lord and offer
sacrifice. Surely he who mocks you is the one cut off. (Quran 108:1-
    3)

Muhammad is not the father of any man among you, but he is the
Messenger of Allah and the Seal of the Prophets, and Allah has
knowledge of all things. (Quran 33:40)

Maria was honored and respected by the Prophet and his family and
Companions. She spent three years of her life with the Prophet,
until his death, and died five years later in 16 AH, (may Allah be
pleased with her) For the last five years of her life, she remained
a recluse and almost never went out except to visit the grave of the
Prophet or her son's grave. After her death, Umar ibn al Khattab led
the prayer over her and she was buried in al Baqi.

Does anyone know of a valid source for this, such as an Authentic Hadith. I had not heard this before, but I do still have much to learn.

She (radhiallahu anha) was sent as a gift to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) from a coptic king and she was the last woman the Prophet married. She arrived after the revelation of the following verse which restricted the Prophet to marry any more except those whom his right hand possess.

It is not lawful for you to marry more women after this, nor to change them for other wives, even though their beauty attract you, except any your right hand should possess: and Allah watches over all things.

    Re: MARIA AL-QIBTIYYA ( Wife of Prophet[S.A.W])

I really enjoyed this thread.. Masha'Allah, I hadn't known about the eclipse upon the burial of the prophet' son..
certainly there is alot of wisdom in why Allah swt did't give the prophet sons that made it to adulthood.

and thus I do wish that some people would stop their ridiculous notion that they are direct descendants of the prophet and thus are superior to others, since two of the prophet's uncles ended up in hell anyway, it should be a lesson that no one enters paradise through their connections or intercessions. Rather what their hands have brought and through Allah swt's mercy..

    Re: MARIA AL-QIBTIYYA ( Wife of Prophet[S.A.W])

As per the authenticated sources and scholars of hadith, Maria Al-Qibtiyya was not his wife, but of what his Right Hand Held.

The authenticated wives of the prophet were twelve, he died leaving behind 9 living ones who were: Sauda, Aisha, Hafsa, Umm Salama, Zaynab Bint Jahsh, Umm Habiba, Jowayreyya, Safeyya, and Maymoona, after the passing of Khadija, Zainab Bint Khozayma, and Rayhana.

Maria was not freed to marry the prophet, and is not called Umm Al-Mumenin. Otherwise the story is correct and she was the mother of the prophet's son Ibrahim.

"Maria Al-Qibtiyya is the mother of the prophet's son -pbuh- and she was given to him by Al-Muqawqes of Alexandria along with Hateb Bin Abi Baltaa in the seventh year of Hijra. She embraced Islam at his hands (Hateb's) before arrival to the prophet -pbuh-, and the prophet had relations with her based on the possession of the Right hand, as per the verse: "
Who abstain from sex, Except with those joined to them in the marriage bond, or (the captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (in their case) they are free from blame." [23:5-6]"

    And God knows best

    Re: MARIA AL-QIBTIYYA ( Wife of Prophet[S.A.W])

The conduct of the Prophet (peace be upon him) in practical matters provides an outline of the course of action Muslims should follow in such matters. When it came to questions of marriage and legal association between man and woman, the Prophet needed to provide a practical example to supplement the text outlining the legal provisions. Thus, it was not enough to issue an order abolishing adoption; it needed action by the Prophet to demonstrate that such adoption, even when done under a law other than that of Islam, is null and void and has no effect on the legality of marital relations.

In the case of Maria and Sereen, the two Copt sisters sent to the Prophet as a personal gift, the Prophet kept Maria for himself and gave Sereen to Hassan ibn Thabit, the famous poet. Sereen gave Hassan his son, Abd Al-Rahman. The Prophet first housed Maria at Harithah ibn Al-Numan’s home, which was close to the mosque. He visited her frequently there. Later, he moved her to another place at a distance from central Madinah.

In Islam, if the master takes a slave woman to himself, she could not be married to someone else. If she gives birth to a child, she is elevated to the status of “mother of child,” and she can no longer be sold to anyone. On her master’s death, she becomes a free woman.

Although the Prophet :saw: married several women after the death of his first wife, Khadijah, and some of them had had several children by earlier marriages, no children were born to him by any of these. Only Khadijah gave him his two sons and four daughters. Now Maria gave the Prophet his last child, a boy he named Ibraheem, after his ancestor, the father of all prophets.

The Prophet was extremely happy to have this child. He gave much to the poor on this occasion. Many women wanted to share in breast-feeding the baby, so that Maria could attend to the Prophet when he visited her

However, this happiness was not to last long. Ibraheem lived only 18 months. When he was very ill, the Prophet held him, and tears sprang to his eyes. The boy then died and the Prophet said his farewell to him: “Eyes are tearful, hearts are in sorrow, but we only say what pleases our Lord. We are certainly sad that you, Ibraheem, has left us.” After the child was buried, there was a solar eclipse. People suggested that this was because of Ibraheem’s death. The Prophet said: “No. The sun and the moon are aspects of God’s creation. They are not eclipsed for the life or the death of anyone.” The Prophet passed away a year later, and Maria followed him six years after that.

The Prophet commended the people of Egypt to his companions. “Be kind to the Egyptians, for they are related to us by blood and marriage.” The blood relation is through Ishmael, and the marriage is through Maria.

    Re: MARIA AL-QIBTIYYA ( Wife of Prophet[S.A.W])

Rayhana Bint Zayd Bin Shamoon from Banu Nadheer (the jewish tribe). She was from the Saby (captured women) after the battle with Banu Qoraytha and the prophet chose her. He offered her the choice of going free or being with him, and she embraced Islam and was freed and became his wife.

Many details of course vary according to sources, so you may hear different versions of the exact lineage or details of her capture.

    Re: MARIA AL-QIBTIYYA ( Wife of Prophet[S.A.W])

Rayhana and Safiyya are both the same person, the daughter of the chieftain of the Jewish tribe Banu Nadir.
Only 11 wives. The 12th Maria is for some, a wife, and for others, "what the right hand possessed". I just learnt a great deal from Sheikh Omar Suleiman's series on Ummahathul Moomineen and he ended it with Maimoona Raliyallahu anha. Did not mention Maria Qubti. But I have always known of Maria Qubti from the textbook I relied upon heavily for quiz contests during my school years, decades ago.
Also, Rasoollullah had 3 sons from Kadheejah Raliyallahu anha: Qasim, Thahir & Thayyib.
Please correct me if I'm wrong. I love to know facts and I'm very happy to be in this forum.
