    Good Lectures?

    Report bad ads?

    As-salamu 'alaykum.

I drive long distances and like to listen to audio books and lectures while I travel. Can anyone recommend particular set of CD's/MP3's in English for expanding my knowledge of Seerah and/or Lives of the Prophets?

Because I'm driving while listening, a more personable, accessible lecturer is preferred. I have learned the most thus far from materials developed for children, because of their simple approach. Some of the books and lectures that I have seen online seem too advanced for a novice like me. But I'm sure something that is the right level is out there, I just need to be pointed in the right direction.

    Jazak'Allahu Khayran.

    Waalikum Assalaam

This link contains both of things you demanded:

    http://www.kalamullah.com/anwar-alawlaki.html

And then this one only deals with Life of Muhammad(PBUH)

    Insha Allah this helps

    Re: Good Lectures?

Jazak'Allahu Khayran. These look like just the type of lectures for which I was looking.

One question: I have listened to some of the lectures of Anwar al-Awlaki before (on cassette) but I had then been told very unfavorable things about his scholarship - that he lacked formal Islamic education that would be appropriate and that he might be teaching from poor sources. So I was afraid to listen to him for fear that I might learn something wrong. Is this a real concern or are his basic lectures OK?

who said unfavorable things about his scholarship?
I'll tell you exactly what is going on here although you won't find it mentioned anywhere and all there's left are just character assassination for very obvious reasons. Anwar was and is incredibly charismatic as a speaker that two FBI agents are said to have embraced Islam after listening to his lectures and they were the sort who listened simply to capture and imprison him.
The U.S knows only two ways to deal with the threat of 'Islamists' -
1- Silence them all together without trial or even fabricated circumstantial as well as their children so nothing is left!
2- Pump enough money into the pockets of those who will put them outside the fold of Islam & successfully so. I invite you to look at the pictures of most if not all so-called Muslim rulers with their Zionist buddies in fact I have just posted such a thread yesterday about a meeting between king 'AbduAllah' of Jordan with Netynyahu to discuss how to disarm and kill 'Jihadists' just in case Bashar isn't doing a good job of it. So anyone who makes you doubt his scholarship you should doubt his intention as well his wala & bara..

I am someone who didn't pray or was under pretense simply to get my parents & siblings off my back until I started listening to his lecture and I was introduced to them by a Muslim who wasn't always looking at me like you're doing haram haram haram and flat out letting me know my destination is hell for all the wrong I was/am doing. I was invited the right way al7mdullilah for something I had in my lap all along I can't believe the years I wasted and for what.
You're welcome to not listen to him but I urge you not to say anything about his person please.

    Re: Good Lectures?

Jazak'Allahu Khayran for your thoughtful answers to my follow up question.

To clarify, I did not intend any disparaging remarks about Anwar al-Awlaki's lectures. I agree that what I have heard from him is very engaging and thought-provoking. One night at a function in the Autumn, a few of us were discussing things that we had heard/listened to lately. I had just listened to the story of Adam (AS) and the Angel of Death from Anwar al-Awlaki and found it particularly interesting. One woman (For the record, she's Palestinian and leads a woman's group at a large masjid) provided her strong opinion on his lectures. I just didn't know if her opinion was a widely held - that I might be accidentally learning wrong - and I don't have many people that I can ask.

I am saddened that many Muslims believe that talking about ones first duty especially in times of oppression somehow puts them outside the fold of Islam. Allah has given us the ability to reason & sort through what is right and wrong. Yesterday I listened to a lecture addressing the same topic by two different sheikhs and it didn't take me 30 seconds to discover the second 'sheikh' is a rafidi/Shiite..
I think you should decide for yourself after listening to his lectures where he stands instead of taking this lady's word for it.
We need to learn all we can even information perceived as erroneous is actually useful if you're into careful analytical evaluation and debates. I have read the works of socialists, Marxists and atheists.. how else can you define who you're as a person and stand firm in your beliefs without a little compare/contrast? can one gauge them if one only had one point of view?
Of course I can appreciate when you're a convert and don't want to be led down the wrong path.. but houda (guidance) comes from Allah and you'll find that what is true will appeal to your fitrah not go against it..

    and Allah knows best,

Perhaps just perhaps listening to him might not be safe as you are in the states.
But listen to just one lecture of his titled: 'Allah is preparing us for victory'
