But our understanding in these matters are very limited. Allah knows all. Every moment we have gone through, monents we will go through choices we will have to make and the outcomes of those choices..
Like a video game. The programmer already knows all the possible moves and the consequences. Does the programmer force the player to do things? But the programmer can know what the player is going to do by knowing all the available choices given a particular situation. But still, the choice needs to be the player's. But the programmer can effect the outcome.
So, in this light, I have no fixed belief. I grew up believing we agreed for a fixed term on earth before we return to Allah. But it could be influenced by the decisions we make. Allahu alem.
Let me make clear that for Allah to know all is for all to be predetermined. If anyone tries to unite that statement with the suggestion that free will exists you have created a contradiction. Now, you can only choose one of the two: either you have free will, or everything is already determined.

Allah has give brains to think. So think properly by the Quran. Do good deeds for the sake of Allah. And put that intelligence to the ground to be in humility.
Whenever it comes to a question that troubles me, I think of it this way. It sometimes helps. I saw a scholar talk about this.
Can you think up a new color? No. Our brain only has the ability to think to a certain limit, you cannot understand things beyond that, or even think or wonder about things beyond that, because just like every other organ in our body, our brain has limitations. Allah understands it. So leave it to Him.

This is relies on a false premise.
The correct answer is: we have free will and everything is determined
Meaning of Shirk according to The Qur'an
" Worshipping anyone or anything besides Allah " or " distributing anything exclusive to Allah, to anyone or anything else "
Meaning of Tawheed according to The Qur'an Worshipping none but Allah. Affirming whatever is exclusive to Him, Him alone.
