    Re: What is Dua actually?

    this is an easy one!

Dua means supplication, i.e, when we put our hands up to Allah and pray to Him for forgiveness etc,

one can perform it anytime anyplace [except toilet], even without putting the hands up in a begging way [this is the meaning of putting the hands up; we are begging to Allah just like a beggar puts his hands out asking for money from people], but it is best to do it after an obligatory prayer while still on the prayer mat!

    Re: What is Dua actually?

When you seek something that benefits you or need distress to be removed you call upon Allaah, the Only one who can help you and remove your distress. You beg Him. This is du'aa.

Du'aa is the act of showing your inability, lack of power and strength, and utter debasement to Allaah while acknowledging that it is only He who can fulfill needs and has all the Power and without Him nothing can be accomplished. It is both an act and a state of being.

Du'aa is a form of obedience to Allaah. Allaah says in the Qur'aan:

And your Lord says, "Call upon Me; I will respond to you." Indeed, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell [rendered] contemptible.

    [Qur'aan 40:60]

    Narrated An-Nu'man ibn Bashir:

The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said: Supplication (du'a') is itself the worship.

(He then recited "And your Lord said: Call on Me, I will answer you" (xI.60).

[Sunan Abu Dawud Hadith No. 1479]

Yes, there are manners to making du'aa. Before you make du'aa you are to praise Allaah. Then you are to send salutation on the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam). After that you make du'aa.

    Narrated Fudalah ibn Ubayd,:

The Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) heard a person supplicating during prayer. He did not mention the greatness of Allah, nor did he invoke blessings on the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam).

The Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said: He made haste.

He then called him and said either to him or to any other person: If any of you prays, he should mention the exaltation of his Lord in the beginning and praise Him; he should then invoke blessings on the Prophet (ﷺ); thereafter he should supplicate Allah for anything he wishes.

Reference : Sunan Abi Dawud 1481

    How do you praise Allaah?

Follow the example of the best of mankind (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam)

    Narrated Ibn `Abbas:
When the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) got up at night to offer the Tahajjud prayer, he used to say: Allahumma lakal-hamd. Anta qaiyyimus-samawati wal-ard wa man fihinna. Walakal-hamd, Laka mulkus-samawati wal-ard wa man fihinna. Walakal-hamd, anta nurus-samawati wal-ard. Wa lakal-hamd, anta-l-haq wa wa'duka-lhaq, wa liqa'uka Haq, wa qauluka Haq, wal-jannatu Han wan-naru Haq wannabiyuna Haq. Wa Muhammadun, sallal-lahu'alaihi wasallam, Haq, was-sa'atu Haq. Allahumma aslamtu Laka wabika amantu, wa 'Alaika tawakkaltu, wa ilaika anabtu wa bika khasamtu, wa ilaika hakamtu faghfir li ma qaddamtu wama akh-khartu wama as-rartu wama'a lantu, anta-l-muqaddim wa anta-l-mu akh-khir, la ilaha illa anta (or la ilaha ghairuka). (O Allah! All the praises are for you, You are the Holder of the Heavens and the Earth, And whatever is in them. All the praises are for You; You have the possession of the Heavens and the Earth And whatever is in them. All the praises are for You; You are the Light of the Heavens and the Earth And all the praises are for You; You are the King of the Heavens and the Earth; And all the praises are for You; You are the Truth and Your Promise is the truth, And to meet You is true, Your Word is the truth And Paradise is true And Hell is true And all the Prophets (Peace be upon them) are true; And Muhammad is true, And the Day of Resurrection is true. O Allah ! I surrender (my will) to You; I believe in You and depend on You. And repent to You, And with Your help I argue (with my opponents, the non-believers) And I take You as a judge (to judge between us). Please forgive me my previous And future sins; And whatever I concealed or revealed And You are the One who make (some people) forward And (some) backward. There is none to be worshipped but you . Sufyan said that `Abdul Karim Abu Umaiya added to the above, 'Wala haula Wala quwata illa billah' (There is neither might nor power except with Allah).

    Reference : Sahih al-Bukhari 1120

How do you send salutations on the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam)?

"Allaahumma salli ‘ala Muhammad wa ‘ala aali Muhammad kama salayta ‘ala Ibraaheem wa ‘ala aali Ibraaheem, innaka hameedun majeed. Allaahumma baarik ‘ala Muhammad wa ‘ala aali Muhammad kama baarakta ‘ala Ibraaheem wa ‘ala aali Ibraaheem, innaka hameedun majeed (O Allaah, send prayers upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent prayers upon Ibraaheem and upon the family of Ibraaheem; You are indeed Worthy of Praise, Full of Glory. O Allaah, send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad as You sent blessings upon Ibraaheem and upon the family of Ibraaheem; You are indeed Worthy of Praise, Full of Glory)."

Narrated by al-Bukhaari (3700) and Muslim (406) from the hadeeth of Ka‘b ibn ‘Ajrah (may Allah be pleased with him).

But my du'aa is not being answered?

From the equitties of making du'aa is to not be hasty

In the hadeeth it says: “One of you may be answered so long as he is not hasty and says, ‘I said du’aa’ but I got no response.’” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 6340; Muslim, 2735.

In Saheeh Muslim (2736) it says: “A man’s (du’aa’s) may be answered so long as it does not involve sin or severing the ties of kinship or hastening.” It was said: “O Messenger of Allaah, what does hastening mean?” He said: “When he says, ‘I made du’aa’ and I made du’aa’ but I did not see any response,’ so he gets discouraged and stops making du’aa’.”

You need to think positively of Allaah

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah, may He be exalted, says: ‘I am as My slave thinks I am.’” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 7405; Muslim, 4675. According to the hadeeth of Abu Hurayrah: “Make du’aa’ to Allaah when you are certain of a response.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi; classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’, 245.

You need to make sure your food comes from halaal sources

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) stated that a response was unlikely for one who eats, drinks and wears haraam things. In the hadeeth it says: [The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)] mentioned the man who undertakes a lengthy journey and is disheveled and covered with dust, and he stretches his hands towards heaven saying, ‘O Lord, O Lord,’ when his food is haraam, his drink is haraam, his clothes are haraam. He is nourished with haraam, so how can he be granted a response?

    Narrated by Muslim, 1015.

Ibn al-Qayyim said: Thus eating haraam things saps the strength of the du’aa’ and weakens it.

Remain focused when you make du'aa

You should be focused, aware of the greatness of the One upon Whom you are calling. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Know that Allaah does not answer a du’aa from a distracted heart.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 3479; classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’, 245.

    Re: What is Dua actually?

I have really never understood what Dua is actually.
    1) What is Dua?

    answer
dua means supplication.asking almighty allah for his mercy, forgiveness, sucess in both this life and hereafter and what ever you wish,we are encouraged to do more dua during a distress time .earlier pious muslims were of the view that make dua when you are happy, successful and having good moments and allah swt may respond to your dua when you are in trouble.

    2) How do one perform it? Is there any steps?

you can make dua everywhere except dirty places and just raise your hands and ask alhayyu alqayum what ever you want.example,if you want forgiveness, you repeat o allah, forgive my sins three times.

    3) What is the reward or any recievements by doing it?

prophet muhammed Peace be upon him, told that that if a muslim where to make dua three things happen
-almighty allah give him/her what ever he/she asked for.
-in almightys wisdom,he postpones the reward in the day of judgment and weighted on scale.
-a calamity that would have befallen on the reciter will be warded off.

so,we should strive to make atleast two lenghty dua everyday ,with sincere heart, alertness and sometimes with tears in our eyes.and never forget to recite ayatul kursi in the morning after dawn prayer, afternoon and when sleeping as this verse is from the treasure of almighty allah.
Thanks for all answers and support. May Allah guide us to the straight path, Insh Allah.
    amen amin

there are times though when dua is accepted and they include
    -after obligatory prayers.
    -after waking up
-friday afternoon, there is an hour in which dua is accepted.
    -before breaking fast.
    -after midnight till fajr prayer.
-during sujood ,the closest time we are with allah swt
